They walked down to a small place near the almost finished canopy before starting a fire. Alby bent down and lit the small pile of wood lying across the grass.

In the distance the sound of a chicken clucking filled the thick smokey warm air. Alby sat on a small log pulling a splinter from his palm. Minho sat down next to him. She took a small stump next to the log.

Newt ran over to Gally and spoke quickly as he walked towards Rie. Without realising it, her back hunched and She put her shoulders up as though She was hiding.

"Rie, follow me!" He commanded. Newt looked sympathetic and gave a reassuring nod of the head.
Slowly She stood up and followed the scary boy into the darkness.

"Stop here." He said when they arrived at a small pen holding a few, maybe 15, chickens, about 4 pigs and 4 cows. They all looked so peaceful.
Gally helped her over the wooden fence before jumping over himself. She watched in awe as he snuck close to a chicken and, with one swift movement, picked it up.

Rie walked forwards and stroked it's wing. "She's pretty calm isn't she?" She asked smiling. Gally's eyes followed as The raven haired girl stroked it's wing.

"Do you want to see her do something funny?" He asked. She nodded enthusiastically. He moved his hand over her face and with a sharp twist, snapped her neck. Rie gasped in horror feeling tears pool in her eyes.

He put the poor chickens body on the floor and to further her horror, it ran around with its head flopping around.

She screamed and ran away from him with tears rolling down her cheeks. She kept running till She found the others.

Newt saw her first and rushed over to her and gave a hug rubbing her back as She wept over the poor chicken, over Gallys cruelty, over the life she lost, over her memories, over everything.

After she calmed down, the boys all ate while Rie sat next to Newt. He still hadn't let her go "but I don't want him to." She thought feeling safe with him next to her.

The boys finished their meals and Minho, after a long debate over who's turn it was, took the plates over to a warm stream and washed them.

"Come on, it's time to get some sleep"
