"Fine, I'll join you..."

╰───────≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫────────╯

Well, as if the day could've gotten any worse, it did. Office Turner was taken to the emergency room, Cora just kinda had to deal with the pepper spray, and the body of Daniel was taken to the morgue. Fun times, right?

You were driving the car back to headquarters, since Cora could barely see two feet in front her.

"Ya know, after a while the stinging kinda goes away." Cora said rubbing her eyes. The second she did the pain came back, "AHHHH WAIT NEVER MIND!"

You stayed silent, consumed in your own thoughts. The more you thought about it the more it confused you. What had Daniel meant by 'you're past is not what it seems' ? Was he talking about your parents? But the case was closed years ago, Jormundur was put in jail with charges for murder and attempted kidnapping. Sounds like a cased, closed....

Wait, no. How could you have been so blind? Why had Jomundur killed your parents? Had the police back then even bothered to look into that? Or did they but never told you? When the case had been investigated you were five. You were a young girl who had watched her parents die in front of her. You had been scarred. So of course the police wouldn't have told you then, but now? Well, they would have no choice now. You were the one in charge.

"Uh (y/n)? You okay?" asked Cora.

You blinked being pulled out of your busy thoughts, "Yeah, I'm okay."

Cora would've raised an eyebrow if her eyes didn't sting so much, "Are you sure? You seemed pretty shaken after that whole ordeal. What did that guy say to you?"

"He said... stuff." you said.

"What kind of stuff?" Cora urged.

You sighed, "I don't know. It all happened so fast, he said things about my past and that it wasn't what it seems or whatever."

"You mean like stuff about your parents?" she asked.

"Maybe? I don't know. He said I needed to speak with Jormundur, he's the key or something." you answered.

"Wait, isn't that the guy who killed your parents?"

"Yep."

Cora fell silent. An awkward moment of quiet went by before Cora finally spoke, asking, "Are you gonna do it?"

"Do what?" you asked confused.

"Are you gonna talk to Jormundur?" Cora clarified.

You fell silent. The question bothered you. You hadn't seen that murder in almost 18 years and now you wanna talk with him? If you had the choice you most defiantly wouldn't talk to him, but if he was the key to the Hamada Case... "I guess I have to. When I became the chief I took an oath saying I would protect the city, and I'm not planning on breaking that oath anytime soon."

Time Skip to the Interrogation Room:

So, instead of going back to headquarters, you decided to face your fears right away and confront Jormundur. Who was currently serving his lifetime sentence in prison.

You looked through the one-way mirror at the man himself. He looked so different than the last time you saw him, except he still had that same scar across his eye. There were heavy bags under his eyes, shaggy hair and an unkept beard. His face held a hallow and solemn expression, as if he had seen death and was cursed stare at it for the rest of his life. Jormundur sat in a chair, cuffs around his hands and feet to restrain him just in case.

"Well he looks... um... nice." Cora commented staring at the man with you.

"I wouldn't say nice is the best way to put it." you responded.

With one more quick glance at the terrifying duck Cora turned to you a put a hand on your shoulder, "Welp, good luck bestie. Please don't die, you're my only friend."

You chuckled tucking the file for the Hamada case under your arm, "Good to know." you walked towards the door and turned the knob, then, you walked in. There was no turning back now.

The door closed behind you and you heard a click indicating that the door was locked. Now, it was just you and Jormundur, alone.

You walked as calmly as you could to a chair across from the duck and placed the file down on the table. Jormundur kept his focus on the floor avoiding eye contact with you.

"Hello, Mr. Jormundur. If I may call you that?" you started.

Silence.

"Okay... um well, I came here to ask a few questions regarding the Hamada Case. Named after Jake Hamada who was killed a couple weeks ago. I was told that you that you knew some information that could be very important."

Silence.

You started growing impatient, "Can you talk?! Are you mute or something?!"

Silence.

"HELLO?! I DON'T HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD OKAY! JUST ANSWER ME!"

Jormundur's beak curved into a smile as he let out a laugh. It wasn't a normal 'oh that was a funny joke' laugh but a mad laugh. The kind of laugh only an insane person could give. He threw his head back as he continued laughing harder and harder.

It honestly was kinda creeping you out, "Um... you okay?"

Jormundur frowned, "You try spending 18 years rotting behind bars the only thing keeping you company is your messed up thoughts."

You fell silent.

Jormundur's expression mocked you as he sat back in his chair, "So, it's information little (y/n) wants, but is it the right information is the question."

You scowled when the duck referred to you as 'little', "What are you talking about?"

Jormundur laughed that insane laugh again, "Of course my niece would be confused, she's too young to understand all this grown-up stuff."

You froze, what was he talking about? "Niece? I'm not your niece."

Jormundur smirked, "Ah, that's where you're wrong. I'm your uncle (y/n)."

You were dead silent as your eyes widened, trying to process what was happening, "I... no, no no no no! There's no way that we're related!"

"Your father and I were brothers, making you my niece." Jormundur explained simply, never losing his smirk.

You sunk into your chair, your body hurt from the betrayal. How could you not know this? Did your adoptive father know about this? Suddenly, a realization came to you. If Jormundur was your "uncle" then that would mean...

"You killed your own brother." you spoke almost in a whisper. You stared at the ground completely silent, tears forming in your eyes.

Jormundur's smirk faded as he looked away, "I never meant to kill him, you know." You looked at your uncle as he continued, "(y/n), there's a lot you don't know."

Anger filled inside of you, "You don't think I don't know that?! That's why I came here, to get some answers!"

Your uncle sighed, "It's a long story, filled with betrayal, love, crazy inventions, but most importantly brotherhood....

Flashback through the Years

"Look a little more to the left... yes right there. You see it J?" the young 7 year old Zachary asked.

"Yeah, it kinda looks like a ladle. There's nothing interesting about that." the 6 year old Jormundur replied.

"Well, maybe to you, but to me it's spectacular! Scientists call it the Ursa Major or the Big Dipper, it's a constellation." Zach explained.

"Meh, I've seen cooler." Jormundur said.

Zach rolled his eyes, "You wanna know why I showed you this?"

"To bore me with your space knowledge?"

Zach laughed,"No, look at the tip of the Big Dipper and then look to the right. What'd you see?"

"Uhhhh, I see another Big Dipper except this one looks smaller." Jormundur responded.

"Yes, that's called the Ursa Minor, or the Little Dipper. You see J, even the stars have little brothers." Zach said messing up his little brother's messy black hair.

Jormundur smiled at that. Even the stars have little brothers....

~*~

"LET GO OF ME!" the 10 year old Jormundur yelled.

"Not till you give me you lunch money you little wimp." a bully said, having Jormundur pinned against the locker.

"I TOLD YOU I DON'T HAVE ANY!" Jormundur shouted, crying.

"Well, then I guess someone wants a bloody nose." the bully raised a fist in the air ready to sucker punch the poor boy.

"STOP!!!!!!!" yelled a voice behind the two.

The bully let go of Jormundur and turned around, "What'd you say?" he cracked his knuckles looking at a 11 year old Zach.

"I said stop. Here you can have my lunch money." Zach shoved some money into the bully and ran to his brothers side.

Jormundur smiled, "Thanks bro."

"No problemo, it's the kinda thing star bro's do." Zach replied.

~*~

The 17 year old Jormundur took in a deep breath, rose in hand, and started walking towards the woman of his dreams: Martha Lewis.

"Hey Martha! Over here!" called the voice of Zach, 18 years of age. Martha stood up grabbing her bag and walked over. Jormundur froze seeing his brother.

"Hi Zach!" Martha said blushing.

Zach took out a bouquet of flowers and presented them to her, "Martha Annie Lewis, my star, will you have the honor of going to prom with me."

Both Martha and Jormundur gasped, "YES OF COURSE!" Martha exclaimed, wrapping her arms around Zach.

Jormundur stood speechless, Zach knew that he liked Martha.

Tears in his eyes, Jormundur ran, tossing the rose in the trash.

~*~

"I'm sorry okay! You knew I liked Martha as well! I had to make my move before you did!" Zach yelled.

"What ever happened to star bro's!? We used to do everything together! Now, it's you, Martha, and me being a third wheel!"  Jormundur yelled back.

Zach looked away and picked up his suitcase already full of clothes for collage, he walked over to the front door and opened it, "I'm not into stars anymore." Then, he walked out closing the door, along with their brotherhood, shut.

Tears ran down Jormundur's face, "Even stars have little brother's? Well, not anymore."

~*~

"Just a little bit more... there!" Jormundur, now 25 years old, said tightening one last screw. He stood back once he finished and the object started glowing, faintly, but it was progress. Jormundur picked up his phone and dialed a number he hadn't dialed in over 8 years.

"Hey, it's been a while..."

~*~

"Wait, hold on a second." you started interrupting his story, "I don't know if this relates to the story but what was my dad, er, your brother, doing during that time the two of you were apart?"

Jormundur thought for a while then said, "He was living a pretty good life. Zach had married Martha, your mother, the year before we reunited. Zach was well off, financially, he was an accountant. While I remained single and mostly unemployed."

"Okay thanks."

~*~

Jormundur waited patiently in his seat. The location: a local bar. He had to admit, he was nervous. For he hadn't seen his brother in 8 years.

A 26 year old Zach entered the bar. When Zach had received the call he had been suspicious. It was kinda out of the blue, especially since he hadn't seen his brother in 8 years. He noticed his brother and walked over, "Uh hey. Is this seat taken?"

Jormundur turned to his brother, a faint smile spread across his beak, "Yes, by you." Zach chuckled and sat down. Jormundur asked the bar tender for two beers. Once the two were settled Zach asked, "So why have you called me here?"

Jormundur sighed and started, "Well, recently I made a discovery...." he smirked, "That could be life changing."

Start song

Jormundur took a swig of his beer then set it down, and turned to his brother singing, "Right here, right now, I put the offer out, I don't wanna chase you down, I know you see it. You run with me, and I can cut you free. Out of the drudgery and walls you keep in. So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy, live a little crazy. You can play it sensible, a king of conventional, or you can risk it all and see..."

He stood up quickly and jumped on the bar table, Jormundur pointed at a very surprised Zach and sang, "Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play? 'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride! It'll take you to the other side, 'cause you can do like you do, or you can do like me. Stay in the cage, or you finally take the key. Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly! It'll take you to the other side."

Zach laughed as he stood up, "Okay, my friend, you wanna cut me in, well, I hate to tell you, but it just won't happen. So thanks, but no. I think I'm good to go 'cause I quite enjoy the life you say I'm "trapped" in. Now I admire you, and that whole show you do. You're on to something, really it's something, but I live among the swells, and we don't pick up peanut shells. I'll have to leave that up to you."

He jumped on the table along with Jormundur and sang, "Don't you know that I'm OK with this uptown part I get to play? 'Cause I got what I need and I don't wanna take the ride. I don't need to see the other side. So go and do like you do, I'm good to do like me. Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key. Oh, damn! Can't you see I'm doing fine?I don't need to see the other side..."

Jormundur acted quickly if he wanted Zach to join him. He was gonna have to make Zach doubt, then he and sang, "Now is this really how you'd like to spend your days? Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays?"

Zach rolled his eyes and responded singing, "If I were mixed up with you, I'd be the talk of the town. Disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns."

Anger filled inside of Jormundur, but he calmed himself, jumping down from the table, and said, "But you would finally live a little, finally laugh a little. Just let me give you the freedom to dream and it'll wake you up and cure your aching. Take your walls and start 'em breaking. Now that's a deal that seems worth taking,"  he extended his hand to Zach,  "but I guess I'll leave that up to you..."

Zach froze, his brother's words had hit him hard, whatever Jormundur wanted him to join must be truly something....

"Fine, I'll join you."

Jormundur smirked and said, "Then, shall we get started?"

~*~

"And that's it." Jormundur said abruptly.

"What?! That can't be all to the story, that still doesn't explain why you killed my parents!" you exclaimed.

He laughed, "That's for you to find out. Also, it's been over two hours, you'll have to call my lawyer if you wanna go longer."

You groaned and stood up, "You're really stubborn, you know that?"

"Yuppers." Jormundur answered, smirking as always.

You sighed and walked out of the room you were just about to close the door when Jormundur said, "One more thing," you looked at him, "watch out for bombs."

You raised an eyebrow, confused, and closed the door. You processed the information that had been given to you, most of it barely made sense.

"Dude, you okay?" asked Cora who had been watching the whole thing with a bag of popcorn on her lap.

Snapping out of your thoughts you nodded, "Yeah why?"

"Well, you look like you've seen a ghost." Cora said shoving popcorn into her mouth.

You looked into the one-way mirror at your reflection. Cora was right, you looked like you had seen death.

"Let's go." you said grabbing Cora's hand and yanking her along with you as you walked. A wave of tiredness crashed over you as you realized how late in the day it was. The information gave you a new perspective on this situation.

The Hamada Case wasn't just some murder, nor was your parents death. Somehow the two were connected, and it was up to you to find out how.

What (y/n) did not know was Jormundur had lied about one important thing:

He wasn't single.
