"I'm so excited! This is like the first case in forever that we've been able to work together on!" Cora exclaimed driving, eyes glued on the road in front of her.

"Yeah, it does feel good to get out on the field again. Sitting behind a desk doing all that paperwork sucked and it was stressful." you said scrolling through your phone, "It's funny I decided to become chief thinking I would work in the field more, but it turned out quite the opposite."

"That's life sometimes, but that's why we have each other!" Cora responded enthusiastic as always.

Silence fell of the two of you. Finally Cora broke the silence, "You wanna know what I think you need, (y/n)?"

"What do I need?" you asked not looking up from your phone.

"A boyfriend." she answered.

"Ew, no. I don't need a boyfriend Cora I told you this at Starducks. My life is stressful enough I simply don't have the time to go on dates and whatnot." you explained.

"UGHHHHHH (y/n)! You don't understand! Having a boyfriend is amazing! Just look at me and Josh, we a perfect couple built on love, hope, and..." Cora looked around thinking of something, "love? Wait no, I already said that."

You rolled your eyes, "And your point is?"

"My point is..." all of a sudden Cora's phone vibrated.

Cora reached to pick it up but you picked it up instead and said, "Keep you eyes on the road. The last thing I need is another police car blowing up."

"Fine, at least can you see who texted me then?"

You nodded and checked. "It's from Josh."

Cora's face lit up, "What does it say?!"

"It says... 'Hey babe can't wait for tonight, im thinking about you and that fine a... ' "

"STOP!!!!!" Cora yelled.

"OOoooOOoo looks like someone's gonna have an eventful night tonight!" you sneered nudging your best friend. Cora's face turned red as she sunk in her seat, "Are you the top or bottom?"

"Shut up."

You laughed, "Oh this is priceless, I'm screenshoting this and sending it to me."

"NO give me back my phone!" Cora exclaimed reaching for her phone with one hand and steering with the other.

"Too late already sent it." you said, smirking, "and just so you know, that was payback for posting that pic on FaceDuck."

Cora groaned, "Ughhh you're the worst (y/n)!"

You laughed once again, "I love you too Cora."

At a bar somewhere in Duckburg...

Artemis was bored. Very bored, she hadn't gotten an assignment in forever, what a waste of talent. Artemis had been trained to kill, kidnap, destroy, sabotage, fight, basically everything. And yet here she was sitting in a bar, bored out of her mind. She fiddled with her scarlet hair looking around the bar for something interesting.

A man entered the bar caught her attention. He looked around the room searching for something, or someone. His eyes met with Artemis and he made his way toward her.

"Can I help you with something?" Artemis asked as the man drew near.

He nodded, "I actually just came for a drink."

Artemis raised an eyebrow, "Well, in that case may I buy you a beer?"

"I'm more of a Bloody Mary hold the ketchup kind of guy." the man responded.

Artemis smirked, he knew the password. That 'simple' conversation had actually been code indicating that the boss had sent him, "What's your code name?"

"I'm Agent Colt, and you're Agent Artemis I'm presuming?" the Colt answered.

"Yes, so finally boss needs me. What's the assignment?" Artemis questioned.

"Assassination. You are being assigned to kill fellow colleague Agent Williams. Boss doesn't care how you do it, as long as it's quick and you leave no trace. And he has to be dead within the next three hours." Agent Clot explained handing Artemis a slip of paper, "Here's the targets address and some further instructions."

Artemis looked down at the paper and memorized it immediately, "A strange job to give me after so long. Should I ask why or....?"

"I can't say much but if you see Officer (y/n) stay hidden. We can't have her finding out about her past. Not when we're this close to finishing the machine." Colt explained.

"Got it."

"Okay, then my work here is done farewell Agent Artemis I hope we never meet again."

"The feelings mutual Agent Colt." Artemis answered. Colt walked away and out of the bar, exactly one minute after Artemis walked out.

"Agent Williams, well he's as good as dead now." Artemis whispered to herself walking down the street. She took her time, murder was no hassle. For she had done it many times before.

You and Cora just kinda talked the whole car trip. There was nothing much to do and the two of you enjoyed each others company.

The talking ceased when the radio came on, Officer Cabrera spoke from Officer Ben's car, "We are at the house, the car is in the driveway so he's home. Is there anything you want us to do or should we wait for the two of you to arrive?"

You thought for a while and responded, "Wait for us to arrive. We're almost there. Remember he works for a drug lord, he could have weapons."

The mood in the police car changed in an instant. It had been cheerful and filled with voices before but now the it was filled with dread and silence, anticipating for what was yet to come. Of course this always happened when working in the field.

"Turn left or right?" Cora asked breaking the silence.

"Right." you answered. Cora turned the car down a street lined with small houses. It was always strange seeing the suburban side of Duckburg. You had lived in the city for almost your whole life. Well, except before your parents died, you remembered that you lived in a small but homey mustard yellow house. But I guess that was all in the past now. I wonder who lives in the house now, you thought.

"We're here!" Cora announced in a sing-song voice to the two other police officers as you and Cora got out of the car.

"Cora, are you ever not happy?" Ben asked crossing his arms.

"Nope!" Cora answered smiling.

Ben rolled his eyes and turned to you, "So what's the plan chief?"

All eyes were on you, waiting for instruction. You froze mind drawing a blank. You looked at Cora and she gave you a thumbs up and mouthed, 'you got this!' You smiled and confidently said, "There's only four of us so I need Turner and Sanchez to go and see if there's a backdoor on the other side of the house. Once you find the backdoor guard it in case he tries to escape. Cabrera, you and I will go through the front door. We don't wanna alarm him we're just here to ask some questions." Everyone nodded and followed out your plan.

Cora smiled as she walked to the back of the house, proud of her best friend. Though Cora had never been top of her class at the academy, she still absolutely loved her job. And what made her job even better, was working with you. To be honest, life couldn't have been better for Cora. She had everything she ever wanted a perfect boyfriend, a best friend, the perfect job, a phone....

"Uh earth to Cora?" Cora snapped out of her train of thought. A hand was waving in front of her face. "Hello?"

Cora swatted the hand away, "Ugh, Ben what do you want?!"

"There you are, you were like staring off into the distance dramatically for like two minutes straight." Officer Turner replied.

"Oh, sorry I was thinking." Cora said.

"Okay cool, but now's not the time for that we gotta follow (y/n)'s orders and stay alert. Got that?" Ben stated. Cora nodded.

The two sat silently behind a bush near the backdoor. They could hear voices from the inside indicating that you and Officer Cabrera were inside with Mr. Williams.

"This is so boring!" Cora exclaimed, "Why can't we be in there, it's obvious that's he's not gonna run away."

"We have to follow orders." Ben relied.

"You're only saying that cause you wanna get (y/n) to go out with you." Cora said crossing her arms.

"Maybe, maybe not. But I think we can both agree that she'll never like me. Knowing her she'll probably never even get a boyfriend, you saw how sour she was today. To be honest I've never even seen her smile!" Officer Turner said.

"You're wrong! Though, it is true she can be a bit sour at times, but that's just because she's had a hard life. And you wanna know why she was like how she was today? It was cause she found love, and didn't know what to do with it. (y/n) doesn't realize this but I do." Cora smiled softly, "I wouldn't be her best friend if I didn't know what was best for her."

Ben looked at Cora and smiled, "You're a good person, and that's saying a lot coming from me."

Cora smiled back, "Thanks, Ben."

"Awwwww this is such a cute moment why don't you two just get a room already!" shouted a voice out of nowhere.

Cora and Ben shot their heads in the direction of the voice, "Who said that!?" the two said in unison. Leaning against the backdoor was a woman with scarlet hair a small digger balanced between her fingers.

"Hello officer's, Sanchez and Turner." the woman said smirking.

"How'd you get there?" Ben questioned, very confused. He and Cora took out their guns.

The woman put her hands up and said, "Oh it was quite simple actually. I just simply walked past the two of you as you were talking. To be honest I thought police officers were more alert than that."

"Hey!" Cora exclaimed offended. "Who are you anyway?"

"I would love to tell ya, but I can't, er well not right now." the woman said unfazed that two guns were pointed at her.

"Why?!" Ben asked sternly.

"Bosses orders, now if you could please put down your guns..." the women started.

"We won't put down our guns till you put down that dagger in your hand." Ben said tightening his grip on the gun.

The woman raised an eyebrow, "So that's how it's gonna be?" the woman sighed and threw her dagger in the air. In the blink of an eye she sung her webbed foot under Cora, tripping her. The gun escaped from Cora's grip and skitter a few feet away from her. Next, the woman grabbed Ben's wrist and twisted it the gun slipped out of his grasp. A small snap came from Ben's wrist as he cried out in pain. He fell to the ground and fainted, due to the pain of a broken wrist. After the woman did all of this she caught the dagger in midair, and started to walk towards the door.

Cora looked between the woman and Ben, she needed to choose: help Ben or stop the woman?

(Y/n) and Officer Cabrera made their way to the front door. You hand hovered over the door and knocked. The two of you stood in silence waiting for someone to answer the door. You could hear movement from the inside as someone walked over to answer the door.

The door was opened by the dog from the picture: Daniel Williams.

"What do you want?" Daniel asked sourly. The second he saw you he grew timid.

"Good Morning Mr. Williams. We are here regarding some newfound information on the Hamada case. Our sources say that you knew Mr. Hamada and we came here hoping we could ask you some questions." you stated. Daniel didn't respond.

Officer Cabrera cleared her throat, motioning the man to say something.

Daniel bit his lip and looked around checking there was anyone around watching, he then quietly said, "Come in and I'll tell you everything." You and Cabrera nodded and followed the dog inside.

Once the three of you were inside Daniel relaxed and asked, "How much do you know?!"

"What do you mean by that?" you asked, confused.

Daniel sighed and continued, "I mean how much do you know about this case."

You opened your beak to speak but was cut off by Officer Cabrera who was obviously playing bad cop, "Look, we don't have all the time in the world here. We need to know who murdered Mr. Hamada and that's it."

"You're right, I don't have all the time in the world, but you do. There's so much to tell that if I were to only tell you who, you wouldn't know the where or the how." Daniel answered pacing back and forth.

"What are you trying so say?" you questioned growing annoyed.

"Officer (y/n) this isn't some random murder. There's more to the story, like why Mr. Hamada was murdered, who did he work for, and what did he know. And all those questions, have something to do with you." Daniel explained.

You were taken aback by those words, "Me? How does the murder of Mr. Hamada have something to do with me?"

The more you spoke with Daniel the more stressed he seemed to get, "IT JUST DOES! I don't have much time okay."

"Then tell us what we need to know!" Officer Cabrera yelled, very on edge.

"I...."

Okay Cora, you need to choose. Cora told herself. Ben or mysterious amazing hair woman, gotta choose. You got to choose. Cora took a deep breath and got to her feet, making her choice.

"Step. Away. From. The. Door."

The woman turned around, "And what makes you think you can stop me?"

"This..." Cora reached for something, anything, in her belt. She felt her hand land on something and without hesitation took it out.

Upon seeing the object the scarlet haired woman laughed, "Pepper spray? That's the best you got?"

Cora looked down to see she was holding pepper spray. Nice going me. "Uhhhh... DISTRACTION!" without thinking she threw, NOT sprayed, the bottle at the woman.

The woman caught it an raised an eyebrow, "Seriously?" then she sprayed Cora in the face.

"HOLY FUDGENUGGETS THAT STINGS!" Cora yelled as she collapsed on her knees rubbing her eyes.

The woman knelt down and put a hand on Cora's shoulder, "You'll never be anything more than a helpless, pathetic, annoying, little side character. This, is not your story. So here's my advice: give up." and with one knee to the gut Cora was on the ground.

The woman approached the door and opened it, she looked back at Cora, "Name's Artemis by the way, I just needed to get rid of Officer Turner before saying that." and with that she entered the house.

Tears ran down Cora's face, and they weren't from the pepper spray.

"I... "

BAM

The sound of a gunshot echoed through the house. Who the bullet hit? Daniel Williams.

In the chest on the left shoulder, directly in the heart. As assassins were trained to always hit there.

Daniel fell to the ground and you ran to his side as Officer Cabrera searched the house for the person who shot Daniel.

Tears in his eyes he looked at you, "(y-y/n)"

"Shhhh, it's gonna be okay Daniel stay calm." you comforted, the both of you knew there was no hope. This was a deathbed.

Words couldn't form for Daniel. He had so much to say and such little time to tell. These next words had to be perfect. These next words needed to give (y/n) the information she needed to find the truth...

"(Y-y/n) listen. I-I don't have much time left... The past is not what it seems, you're past is not what it seems. Jormundur, he is the key. He will give you the answers. He will give you the answers...." Daniel's eyes dilated as he died, leaving him staring up at the ceiling, forever.

You closed his eyes with your hand. Paying your respect to the dead. The dead man's words echoed through your head. Jormundur. Just thinking about him left a sour taste in your mouth. But what did all of it mean? The past is not what it seems? What was going on? Why would Mr. Hamada's murder be connected to you? Why was Daniel shot? What did he know? So many questions that needed to be answered, you realized.

"(Y/n) there's something you need to see." Officer Cabrera called from the back of the house. You sighed and stood up,

"I'm coming."

"Daniel Williams. Death: Monday, 10:03 a.m." spoke the man at his desk, "Good job Artemis."
