Chapter 8: You watch over me?

❀~~~~❀~~~~❀~~~~❀

"Didn't you bring lunch?" Jungkook asked the angel as he noticed he wasn't eating when they sat alone in the cafeteria. Hoseok and Yoongi had disappeared, and so they had the whole table to themselves.

"I forgot," Taehyung lied. He hadn't actually been eating human food since he came to down to Earth - he hadn't really had the chance as he didn't have human money to buy some. Angels didn't have to eat often though, so it wasn't like he was feeling specifically hungry or weak.

"You haven't eaten all day," the other commented, "here, share mine."

Taehyung glanced at him surprised. He never would've guessed Jungkook would actually share his lunch with him. "Thanks, but really, I'm fine-"

"Nonsense," Jungkook interrupted him, "eat." He scooped closer to him and lend him another pair of chopsticks that was always placed on the tables around in the cafeteria, and also placed his lunch between them so the other could also eat.

"Thank you, Jungkook," Taehyung smiled at him softly, really meaning it. He wasn't going to eat a lot though, since Jungkook needed it more than him, but he literally slowed down to make the transfer eat on purpose. "Just eat," Taehyung said, but Jungkook didn't follow his order and only took a piece when he did so as well.

"I have to make sure you eat enough," he just replied.

Taehyung felt a strange warmth feeling in his temple area. "Why did you suddenly care whether I eat or not? You always watch me or something?" he joked, but when Jungkook didn't reply, his face turned even warmer. "You watch over me?" he asked surprised. And Taehyung called himself an angel: even he hadn't paid attention to how much Jungkook was eating.

"I just don't want you to pass out so I actually have to get you to the infirmary," he scuffed as he rolled his eyes, avoiding the elder's eyes, but Taehyung saw right through him.

"You seem to care for me," Taehyung teased, "you obviously fancy me."

"I - I do not! Such rubbish words," he denied, but Taehyung's grin didn't disappear.

"It's okay," he said, "I like you a lot too. You're the first human I've connected with, and I'm glad it's you, Jeon Jungkook."

Jungkook stared at him amazed, then shyly stared down at his chopsticks in his hands. He wasn't entirely sure what the transfer meant with what he said, but he was glad hearing it. Hearing someone tell him they're glad to get to know him made him indescribably happy.

"Just eat," Jungkook muttered as he carefully made sure the other ate as well, and when his lunch box was empty, he smiled satisfied as he put it back into his backpack, and the two males headed over towards their lockers.

"What class is now?" Taehyung asked, not knowing which books to bring out.

"Don't you got your schedule?" Jungkook asked.

"It's easier to ask you," he smiled, "plus, I forgot it in the cafeteria."

"Go and get it then, or else it'll be lost."

"But I got you," he smiled cheekily.

Jungkook gulped as he avoided his gaze. "Don't depend too much on me now," he said as he rolled his eyes, "I'm not your servant."

"I never saw you as one," he defended himself, "it just gives me a reason to stick with you."

Before Jungkook could reply - not that he knew what he'd say back - a student accidentally bumped into him, losing his own books in his hands in the progress. "Watch where you're going," Jungkook snapped at him, "do your legs not function right, or what?"

"I - I'm sorry," the student apologised, kneeling down to pick up his lost books.

Taehyung bent down to help him, and Jungkook just remained still, glaring at him until he disappeared. "You didn't have to snap at him like that," he said, obviously not approving the other's behaviour.

"He bumped into me," he said with a frown, "was I supposed to apologise?"

"There was no reason to yell at him when he obviously didn't do it on purpose," he told him.

"How would you know? Maybe he did."

Taehyung rolled his eyes at the other's childishness. "Like he'd lose his books and be near you for more than necessary on purpose."

"What was that?" Jungkook murmured, glaring at the other.

"Just don't be rude to humans," he glared back, but not as much as the other. He didn't want to be angry with his human, but he had to scold him when it was necessary.

"You talk like you're not human," Jungkook pointed out, "why? Do you look down on me?"

Taehyung's eyes widen. "What? Of course not," he frowned, "I'd never look down on you."

"Sure you aren't," Jungkook replied sarcastically. It was obvious he didn't believe the other, but he didn't feel like arguing anymore, and so he closed his locker and walked ahead. Luckily Taehyung already knew the subject they were having as he just pretended earlier, and followed the younger. "What's that? You already know what class we're having," Jungkook said as he saw the transfer's book in his hand.

"I'm good at memorising things," he grinned.

Jungkook just rolled his eyes, and the young males took their seats in the classroom whilst waiting for their teacher.

Throughout the rest of the school day, Jungkook felt weirdly odd. He didn't like the fact that he and Taehyung argued, and surprisingly, he felt bad for giving the elder the wrong impressing. Actually, Jungkook had always been like that: easy to trigger, and he didn't care whether he'd hurt other people's feelings or not, but for some reason, he didn't want Taehyung to know that, and he didn't want him to think badly of him. He didn't want him to think of him as a bad person.

"He can't hate me. Not him."

Taehyung jumped in his seat surprised. He subtly glanced at this seatmate, knowing he was praying to himself, as he heard him.

It made him smile. Jungkook was thinking of him, and he didn't want to have a bad relationship with him.

"Hey, Jungkook," Taehyung whispered, earning the other's attention, "whatcha say we go to the playground like the other day and just spend the time there?"

He made the other smile, and Taehyung knew he had given him the clear message he wasn't neither angry, nor hating him.

He nodded back, unable to stop smiling throughout the school day. And when they reached the playground they had been to the other day, they fooled around like little kids.

Taehyung was so happy he had made his human like him. It would've been tough if he didn't to do his job, but for some reason, he wouldn't have liked it if he didn't like him either way.

Taehyung never felt like a human, except when he was with Jungkook. Whenever he was around, he felt like he belonged on Earth. As if they belonged to each other.

"You okay?" Jungkook asked as he realised his friend had spaced out.

"I'm fine," Taehyung smiled, "I've actually never felt better."

Jungkook chuckled. "Really? How come?" he asked curiously, interested in what the angel meant.

"I'm just really happy," Taehyung grinned, "I'm so happy I can feel excitement throughout my body. I can feel my energy swirling around me, making me unable to stop thinking of happy thoughts. I'm just really happy," he tried his best to explain, but he simply couldn't explain it in words. All he could do was to hold onto his human's hands and spun them around together, causing the other to snicker alone with him.

"What's gotten into you?" Jungkook laughed, although he didn't struggle against him. It made him happy seeing how thrilled the other felt for some weird, but good, reason.

You happened, Taehyung thought, but he felt if he said that out loud, Jungkook would think of it the wrong way. And he definitely didn't want to spoil the mood they shared for now. They were both happy, and that was what mattered, at least for now.

"Hey, Taehyung hyung," Jungkook suddenly spoke up, making the other's head turn towards him in response. "Do you wanna come to dinner?"
