34 : Captain Hardrock
"Could you go tell Luka we're waiting for him to start rehearsals?"
Marinette looks at Anarka Couffaine in confusion.
"Who's Luka? And, um, where is he?"
"Luka's my son," Anarka says. "You'll find him in his cabin."
Marinette nods, and goes beneath deck. She finds it funny, how Juleka and her family live on a boat. A reminder about how different their lives are, compared to hers.
Out of the corner of her eye, Marinette spots someone, and jumps. The boy with blue hair opens his eyes.
"Hey, my name's Mama uh Mamamarinette! Your mom sent me down here. The groove...uh... the group's waiting for you."
The boy, who Marinette assumes is Luka, laughs.
"Hey, Mamamarinette."
Marinette turns red, and Luka stops laughing.
"Sorry. I'm better with music than words."
He stands up.
"I'd better go join the... groove, you said?"
Marinette groans, and puts her head in her hands.
"Don't tell me I really said that."
Luka chuckles.
"You're a funny girl, Marinette."
Marinette follows Luka up on deck. He attaches his black guitar to a cable, so Marinette guesses it's an electric one.
"Hi, everyone!"
Marinette turns. It's Adrien, walking on deck. About to...
"Adrien!" Marinette yells, but it's too late. He's tripped.
"Are you okay, buddy?" Nino asks. Adrien looks down at the large, black case he just tripped over.
"Nah, it's all good," Adrien says, opening the case. "Whoa, an original ZX20.4!"
"That old thing?" Anarka asks, laughing. "No one knows how to play it."
"I do," Adrien says. Alya laughs.
"Mr. Perfect knows how to do everything," she whispers to Marinette.
"Great," Luka says. "Welcome to the band, Adrien."
"Where's the poster?" Rose asks suddenly. "We had a poster with our band name on it!"
"We only had one," Luka says. "We'll have to go without."
"I could draw one," Marinette suggests, before suddenly reconsidering. If they saw her drawings, they might-
"That would be awesome!" Luka says, and Marinette can't find it in her to change her mind. "We've only got the basics, though."
"It'll be easy," Marinette promises. He takes her back down below deck, and opens a drawer. He's completely right; there's only a few lead pencils and a pack of textas.
"We should have an eraser somewhere..." Luka says. Marinette just picks up a large piece of paper and begins to draw. Kitty Section written across the middle, and then the players. Luka's glancing at a phone, then back at Marinette's drawing, and then back at his phone.
"Done!" Marinette says. Luka puts the phone down.
"Awesome job, Marinette," Luka says, putting the poster up. "Everyone ready to practice?"
There seems to be a general affirmative, until they actually start to play. Marinette seriously wonders whether her eardrums have broken. Officer Roger seems to agree, as he gives Anarka too many tickets for Marinette to count.
"Maybe we could just lower the volume a little...?" Marinette suggests.
"Never!" Anarka yells. Marinette huffs.
"Captain, if you don't lower the volume, there won't be any gig at all," Marinette snaps. "Just lower the volume!"
Anarka seems surprised. Marinette's been nothing but a polite guest, and now she's snapping at her.
"She's right, Mum," Luka says, and Anarka sighs.
"Maybe a little bit..." she mutters. Officer Roger seems appeased by "a little bit", and so he leaves and Anarka adjusts the volume on the speakers.
The gig doesn't last long, but Marinette is blown away by the talent. Literally blown away.
"That was awesome!" she grins. It's ten o'clock, and she's about to leave. Luka smiles at her.
"I'm putting it online. Hopefully, someone will notice our music. We wouldn't be the first."
Marinette smiles.
"Good luck. I'm going to go home. See you!"
Luka's voice is lowered, so only Marinette can hear him.
"Bye, LadyBug."
Marinette twirls around.
"What?"
Luka smiles.
"Your drawing. It's different, because it's hand-drawn, but it's definitely LadyBug's art style."
"Coincidence?" Marinette attempts. Luka smiles.
"You're LadyBug, aren't you?"
"Maybe?"
Luka just looks at her.
"Yeah," Marinette sighs. "I'm LadyBug. Go ahead and announce it to the world."
"I wasn't planning on it," Luka says. "I'm a huge fan of TP, actually. Viperion?"
The name is familiar. He's probably popped up in her notification feed.
"Yeah, I recognise the name," Marinette says. "You aren't going to tell anyone?"
"No," Luka says. "Unless you want me to?"
"No, no, no," Marinette says hurriedly.
"This Volpina girl," Luka says, "does she really know you?"
"No," Marinette says. "Actually, you're the only one."
"I'm the only one who isn't an idiot?" Luka laughs. "High praise. See you, Marinette."
"See you, Luka," Marinette says, and starts her walk back to the bakery. The next morning, she makes a new episode, based on Anarka. And writes a little note on the bottom.
Shoutout to Viperion, the only person who has worked out who I am in real life. Keep the secret, Viperion!!
She can't help but be relieved that his profile is on Secret, so it can only be viewed if he's following you. No one knows he's Luka, so no one can bother him about her identity.
ChatNoir: he knows your identity? i'm hurt, bugaboo
LadyBug: he worked it out. if you work it out, i won't deny it ;)
ChatNoir: i cant wait, mlady
[A/N: God where do I even start with the A/N for this chapter?? Basically, I know all the drama about Luka's been going down (case in point: Desperada, Heart Hunter & Miracle Queen) since I originally wrote this chapter, but because Luka is so observant, my favourite headcanon is platonic Lukanette. Marinette can talk to him about being Ladybug, because he's so nice and reassuring and basically I adore platonic Lukanette and NONE OF YOU CAN STOP ME]
[A/N: Also double chapter bc I thought I posted Gorizilla but I didn't]
