22 : Reflekta
"Chloe's so horrible," Marinette mutters. "Making people think they're nothing, what's she playing at? Everyone's worth something."
"I know, right? I'm trying to drill some sense into her, but in all honesty I don't reckon it'll work."
Marinette jumps. She hadn't realised anyone was listening to her mutterings, especially not Adrien.
He walks up beside her, and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"But it was a really great idea to have this photoshoot for Juleka, Marinette. You're really kind."
"It was, um, no trouble," Marinette says, unable to find words quick enough. Adrien smiles at her.
"Not for you., but it meant the world to Juleka. See you tomorrow, Marinette."
"See you," Marinette says, her hand raised in a half-wave. She can see her fellow classmates beginning to disperse, and starts to walk away. She's just left the park when her phone rings.
"What's up, Alya?" she asks.
"Girl, I saw you talking to Adrien! Spill the tea!"
"He just said it was a good idea to have the photoshoot," Marinette says, deciding to leave out the part about her being really kind. Alya scoffs.
"Yeah, right. I've met Adrien before, you know. What did he say?"
"He said I was really kind," Marinette admits, and she can almost hear Alya grinning.
"See? He knows the shoot was your idea, and he thinks you're really kind. You're getting there, girl."
Marinette crosses the road, and pushes open the door to the bakery. She waves with one hand to her parents, and goes upstairs.
"I try," Marinette sighs. "I'm hoping I can at least have a decent conversation with him, for once. No umming, no stuttering, no pausing, just a normal conversation!"
"Little things, girl, little things," Alya laughs. "Chill, you'll get there."
"Thanks for the encouragement," Marinette says. "I've got to go, see you tomorrow?"
"See ya, girl," Alya says, and ends the call. Technically, Marinette doesn't have anything to do, but she doesn't want to keep talking about Adrien anymore. He's perfect, and she's not. It's that simple.
Sighing, Marinette opens Miraculous on her laptop. She types a quick message to ChatNoir.
LadyBug: hey chat, ready to draw?
ChatNoir: feel free to get started, mlady. something went overtime, so im not in range of a drawing tablet right now. ill help out when i get home
LadyBug: all good. so i was in the park today, and i was chatting to this photographer as he was leaving. it was after school hours, and i was curious as to why he was still taking photos. apparently one girl was trapped in a bathroom so she couldnt be in the photo
ChatNoir: omg really?? thats so horrible
LadyBug: ikr it sucks. its not fair for kids to be told theyre not worth being in a photo, so i was thinking we could do todays comic based on her. to show kids that they DO deserve to be noticed
ChatNoir: thats a really great idea, princess, i'll be happy to help you
Marinette smiles, and begins to draw. Drawing not-Juleka getting trapped in a bathroom so she couldn't be in the class photo, and when her friend Not-Rose finds her she's missed the photo.
"No one ever hears me. Or sees me. I'm invisible."
ChatNoir: that hits hard, it's really good. im ready to help out now
And with the two of them, it doesn't take long. It never does, if Marinette's being honest. She wouldn't have so many episodes posted without ChatNoir.
When the episode is finished, she writes a message.
This story is based on a real person, who honestly believed that she didn't deserve to be in her class photo. ChatNoir and LadyBug hope that if you believe that you're not worth anything to your peers, you've read this episode and now know that even if you think you aren't worth anything, you're loved by so many people around you.
"See, Juleka?"
Rose's voice drifts through the classroom. She's showing her phone to Juleka.
"It's true, you know," Rose says. "Everyone here wanted you to be in the photo, except Chloe. Don't let one person bring you down."
"I suppose you're right," Juleka says, taking the phone. She scrolls up to the top, and starts reading. As she gets to the end, her mouth forms a small o.
"Rose, this episode is based on me, isn't it?"
"I think so," Rose beams. "LadyBug or ChatNoir must have seen us in the park, taking the second batch of photos. It's a personal message to you, Juleka."
Juleka smiles at the screen, and Marinette can't help herself smiling.
"See, Marinette?" Adrien says. "It wasn't any trouble for you, but Juleka has a photo of herself and her friends, and now LadyBug's given her a personal message in The Adventures of Tikki and Plagg. No trouble for you, but maybe there wouldn't be a Reflekta episode without you."
Marinette knows that even without the photos in the park, LadyBug would have drawn an episode for Juleka, but she can't stop herself smiling.
"I suppose you're right," she says. Adrien smiles at her, and walks over to talk to Nino. Alya grins.
"See? You need a Miraculous account, you need to support LadyBug! She's doing so many good things!"
"And ChatNoir," Marinette reminds her. "They're collaborating, not having one of them do all the work."
"I know," Alya says. "I might send LadyBug a message, though, thanking her. Telling her how her episode has made Juleka happier."
Juleka has apparently finished the Reflekta episode, and is smiling like Marinette has never seen her smile before. It's amazing when she realises that she's the reason that smile is there.
"Opinion?" Alya asks. Marinette reads the message, and gives her a thumbs up. It's only that evening that she can reply.
RenaRouge: hey, ladybug. just thought you ought to know that i know the girl you based reflekta on in real life, and your episode honestly gave her such a boost. i dont think ive seen her so happy. thank u so much
LadyBug: theres no need to thank me. u and everyone else she knows are the ones giving her support and love, i was just the one who let her realise it.
