SCENE 5

INT. BIRD ROOM - DAY

BLUEY stands on his perch, his back facing the window, and preens himself.

Suddenly, a swift motion behind him catches his attention and he starts flying around frantically.

BLUEY

Huh? Who's there?!

No response.

BLUEY

Can't you see I'm busy cleaning myself?

No response.

BLUEY

Humph, well, it's not like you take care of yourself since you like to bother me so much.

BLUEY stands back on his perch and continues to preen.

KNOCK

KNOCK

BLUEY

Eh? It's not the front door.

KNOCK

KNOCK

As if by a propulsive force, BLUEY jumps forward.

BLUEY slowly turns his head around.

BLUEY

If you're trying to scare me, it's not going to work. I'm big and strong-

PEAR comes in but BLUEY doesn't notice.

PEAR

Erm, no you're not.

BLUEY

Bah! What the heck, Pear! Since when did you get here?

PEAR

So..., not sure if you're aware of this but that perch you're standing on is mine.

BLUEY

Who said it's yours? Nothing in this house can be possessed by a single bird.

PEAR

And how do you know?

BLUEY

First off, I've been here longer than you have. Most of the food bowls and toys you play with were actually mine until you came along. But I'm okay with that. I'm okay with sharing. And second, does this perch have your name on it?

PEAR looked at the perch.

PEAR

Well, no...but I always consider that perch as my preening perch. I always use it for that. Nothing else.

BLUEY

That's fine! I was almost done anyway! But there was someone or something bothering me. I think it was somewhere in the backyard.

A green bird flies by the window and stops on a branch facing the window. He looks in.

BLUEY

Ah! New friend!

BLUEY flies over to try to sit on the same branch as the new bird, but he gets blocked by the window.

PEAR

Oh no, Bluey! Is your cere okay?

BLUEY

Yeah, yeah, just a bump. I got really excited, y'know.

BLUEY

(to New Bird)

What's your name?

NEW BIRD

I'm a wild bird, so I don't have any names!

BLUEY

I'll name you Tinky then! You're green like Tinkerbell!

TINKY

Okie, thanks, Bluey! I gotta go find more food, so I'll see you around?

BLUEY

Before you go, there's a bowl of food at the end of the backyard.

TINKY

Thanks!

TINKY seems to disappear in the midst of the greenery.
