Act 1: Scene 3
Scene 3
INT. BLUEY'S CAGE - night
The full moon illuminates the whole room and especially shows ANGIE crouching down...doing something.
ELIZABETH enters.
ELIZABETH
Oh Angie, don't tell me you're sick, too!
ANGIE seems unfazed and continues doing her business: hiding eggs under her stomach — er, well, dry poops.
ELIZABETH
So you wanna become a mom!
Silence follows.
ELIZABETH turns around to PEAR and MIKA who are-
ELIZABETH
You're preening each other?
BLUEY
Look!
ELIZABETH
(turning around)
What the-
BLUEY is preening ANGIE.
ELIZABETH
Oh! Y'all are lovebirds!
The moon's spotlight turns from the full room to the birds.
BLUEY
(to the birds)
We're not even lovebirds biologically speaking.
ANGIE
I think what she means is we love each other. Well, the same goes for Pear and Mika.
BLUEY bobs his head in understanding.
ANGIE
Yeahhh, I don't think she meant we're the species of lovebird.
MIKA
(with her glasses on)
Correction: The genus of lovebirds.
PEAR walks in from his computer.
PEAR
Yep. There are 9 species and 9 subspecies that are all part of the genus Agapornis.
MIKA
(to BLUEY and ANGIE)
Do you wanna know about the old world and new world s-
BLUEY flew to cover up PEAR's computer, and ANGIE flew in MIKA's face.
BLUEY
NO! I think we're fine.
MIKA
Well, call us up at any time, capeesh? We're here to research...stuff.
MIKA and PEAR waddle away slowly and hold their head up in accomplishment.
PEAR
Did I just become human? Y'know, with the computer.
MIKA
You still have a beak though.
PEAR goes cross-eyed trying to see his beak.
MIKA
Anyway, I thought Bluey would know about the genus and species thing though 'cause he's the oldest of the flock.
PEAR
Eh, he's smart, but age is just a number. He's usually smarter than all of us partly because of all his life experiences before we were even born; however, that doesn't make him an expert of everything.
The budgies' artificial yellow marks represent the togetherness of them.
The moon's spotlight moves to ELIZABETH.
ELIZABETH
Hey, y'all can have all the baby birds your heart desires, okay?
Everyone looked at her cutely, cocking their heads.
ELIZABETH
But if you don't happen to have any, that's completely okay with me, too. It's not like we're gonna sell the baby birds. I'm your guys' theoretical mom, so I should support you guys.
