Act 1: Scene 1
INT. BLUEY'S CAGE - DAY
With the sun shining brightly, BLUEY is in his cage. PEAR, MIKA, and ANGIE are by his side, too.
ELIZABETH
Hey Bluey! Wanna come out and play?
BLUEY simply stared in ELIZABETH'S soul and didn't budge. ELIZABETH then noticed yellow patches on BLUEY's navy blue cheeks!
ELIZABETH puts her finger under BLUEY's stomach for him to step up hopefully.
BLUEY looked at ELIZABETH.
ELIZABETH
Please, Bluey. This is for your own good. You might be sick, but I gotta clean you up.
BLUEY stepped up.
ELIZABETH brought him to the top of the cage to get a better angle and brought out a spray bottle with water in it and sprayed it on him numerous times.
BLUEY sneezed as per usual and kept inching forward for more water.
ELIZABETH
(murmuring to herself)
Thank goodness, you haven't lost your excitement for water! You're not completely different!
After a thorough shower, BLUEY's yellow patches seemed to have slightly faded.
ELIZABETH put BLUEY back in the cage, but he didn't fly enthusiastically into it anymore. Well, he didn't fly at all. He only stepped up onto his cage.
ELIZABETH
Hey, what's going on with you today, Bluey? I wish you could tell me! You're always so ecstatic to be with Angie, but now you're quite the opposite.
BLUEY fluffed up his feathers — a sign of illness — and closed his eyes.
ELIZABETH
Nooooo! You're not sick, right? Gosh, please don't make this another version of April of last year! I can't lose my first bird! We've got so many great memories together and lots more is gonna come! I promise you that once I get my driver's license, I will drive you everywhere, even to Ashlynn's house to see her birds. And I will take you to the beach! And I've been making so many toys for you four. Please don't just go!
ELIZABETH paces in the bird room trying to think of ideas on how to save BLUEY.
ELIZABETH
You know what? You need a mirror. Bubbles is there.
ELIZABETH walks off stage for just a second to grab a hand-held mirror and walks straight back to BLUEY to show him it.
He didn't fly to it like he usually did, but he did run toward it!
ELIZABETH
(murmuring to herself)
Little steps...little steps...We're making progress! Maybe sickness sometimes just needs time to heal.
BLUEY then chirped!
ELIZABETH started sobbing out of happiness.
ELIZABETH
So you're not dying?
BLUEY
No.
ELIZABETH
And you talk?
BLUEY nodded aggressively.
ELIZABETH poured some pellets into a small bowl for BLUEY to eat since sick birds normally don't eat.
BLUEY ate it with passion!
ELIZABETH
So you are okay!
BLUEY nodded aggressively again/
ELIZABETH
So why'd you have to scare me like that?
BLUEY looked at ELIZABETH for a moment and then continued eating.
ELIZABETH
Well, it is winter now, so temperature can be a hassle.
