NMT: Why DBZ Won't Happen Soon

Welcome!

Do we have any Dragon Ball Z fans here? Or at least used to be?

OK, so I bet most of use are wondering why we haven't gotten a movie yet (a proper one at least).

In 2009, there was an attempt at a Dragon Ball Z movie, and it did ever so poorly! It was horrible! Does anyone remember "Dragonball: Evolution?"

This movie totally changed the story of the original series/book, the characters' personalities were not even portrayed correctly and...this was just a mess, it's no wonder they didn't follow up with the planned sequel.

That was 2009 however. Since then, a lot of movies have came out and technology has improved greatly!

If companies want to make a really nice movie with tons of action, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, and so on, Dragon Ball Z is the thing to work on!

So nowadays, many many movies of matching qualities have done so well! Just look at the Marvel and DC movies, Star Wars with a well-deserved revival, Avatar getting back in the playing field, and Transformers is somehow still alive and pulling in money from odd plot twists!

The two questions that now stands for us fans: "Where is our DBZ movie?" and "Why hasn't it come out to claim it's rightful spot amongst the other movies?"

I have the answer that I'm pretty sure our good creator, Akira Toriyama ⬇️-

-has already thought about too.

Let's start with the obvious.

He's already working on the highly successful revival of his show, "Dragon Ball Super."

I emphasized "his," because after his original series of "Dragon Ball" (Goku's origins), the company wanted more control over the next shows while Akira was only "supervising."

But, now Akira is back again, and it's obvious because the entire fanbase was revived in a heartbeat! Heck, my coach said he came back to watch the new ones! 😂

So, until he's done with that, we won't see it anytime soon.

But now, my second reason is what I most likely think was the problem.

Dragon Ball Z has not taken it's throne- why? Because Superman did.

Yep. You heard that right.

⬆️THIS ONE RIGHT HERE, stole the slim chance Goku had at the cinematic glory!

Confused? I bet you are.

Granted, Superman technically should be the one to take that spot first, as he did debut *WAY before Goku did.

*Superman made his debut in 1938, giving himself a 46-year lead over Goku's debut (1984).

BUT, in my honest opinion, Superman had his chance, even though they finally got it in 2013 with "Man Of Steel."

And now that the whole DC Extended Universe is in full swing, a Dragon Ball Z movie would be sadly diluted into nothing because of the success of Superman's presence.

Here's why this is a problem. First, let me give you a really quick rundown on Superman's origins. Yes, I know it sounds unnecessary to give, but I need you to read and pay attention. Ready?

Superman, real name Kal-El, is an alien from the planet Krypton. He was sent to Earth within the last moments before Krypton blew up. His parents sent him to Earth so no one can find him, and the planet's atmosphere and sun would make him have much more superior powers than those on Earth. When he arrived on Earth, he was taken in by a human family and was given the name, Clark Kent. Trying to live a normal life, he was constantly picked on for being different, as Clark grew up with trouble controlling his powers. That was until he met a hologram of his father, learned how to use his powers, and decided to use them for good. By the time he mastered them, General Zod, a banished Kryptonian commander, finally found Clark, and tried coaxing him into taking over Earth to remake it into a new Krypton, but Superman refused and fought him for it.

That was a rough, but very straight-to-the-point summary. Now, for those who don't know, will now need to know Goku's story. Here we go:

Goku, real name Kakarot, is an alien from Planet Vegeta, where Saiyans once lived. The planet was supposedly destroyed by a meteor, but luckily before that, he was sent on a mission to Earth. The Saiyans were a violent race known for raiding planets, killing their civilizations, then sell the planets to any vendors of interest. Kakarot was sent to Earth to do the same (as Saiyan babies were actually strong enough to take on more than one adult). An old man found Kakarot in his landed ship, confused as to why a baby was in it. He took the boy in, naming him Goku. However, like Saiyans naturally are, Kakarot was destructive and rebellious. One day, during a regular stroll, Goku fell out of his caretaker's latch and landed head-first into a ravine. He was close to death, but when he finally recovered, the boy was different. He was calmer, happier, and loved his "Grandpa Gohan;" Goku's memory was gone, and his primary mission was forgotten. Gohan taught Goku how to use his powers, and later, Master Roshi (a friend of Gohan's) did as well after Gohan died. Years later, while Goku was now a father and fully in control of his powers, a Saiyan named Raditz lands on Earth to find Goku, disappointed that the humans have not been wiped out with all the time Goku had. Raditz finally finds Goku, as Goku has no idea what Raditz was upset about. Raditz realized Goku's memory was gone, and decided to tell Goku his true origins and original purpose on Earth- while also revealing that he is actually Goku's brother. By this point, Goku was already a good person, so he had no choice but to fight Raditz.

There's a lot more to that story afterwards, but that comes from the first season of DBZ, which actually cleanly leads into the second. So I cut it right there for the sake of time.

Now question, did that last one sound familiar?...I bet it did!

My hypothesis as to why we do not have a Dragon Ball Z movie right now, is because of the striking similarities between Goku and Superman.

Granted, Superman had it first- but many would say Goku did it better!

You see, a constant struggle with Superman is trying to fit into a world where he is way too powerful for his own good, nearly invincible you could even say!

Goku however, has a similar thing, but instead of him being gifted with such power, he works hard over time to increase it, to be the best. And if you see the shows, it is evident he is FAR from invincible! If anything, he's a bit more human than Superman, relatable even.

Superman gets shot by a bullet, he doesn't even budge. Goku however, actually shows pain (but still doesn't die)!

In this situation, Superman would relate to the higher, rich class. The 1% of the world.

On the other hand, Goku is more like most of us, the 99%. Yeah, we don't have his powers, but just like him, he had to work through blood, sweat, tears, and death to get to Superman's level (no seriously, Goku actually died before and came back better- and if you know the shows, you will no for a fact that "blood, sweat, and tears" is not just metaphorical)!

And he still isn't on Superman's level, it's been proven twice that Superman is still way more powerful than Goku.

If you have the time, here goes the most reliable proof you will ever find. The first one's a bit older, so excuse the jagged graphics, but the second one makes up for it. Enjoy!

Hey, no hate on Superman, I like the character, but every once in a while, I'd like to see a character go through some serious grit in his/her life!

So because of this, and the fact that the DC Extended Universe looks like it's gonna stay for years to come, we probably will not be getting a Dragon Ball Z movie anytime soon.

The only opportunity they'll have is when DC's done with their project(s), and will lay off from Superman (HA, whenever that is).

My far-fetched guess is (as of August 5, 2017- for record's sake), once DC's Extended Universe is over, they'll wait a bit, make another "Superman", it'll flop hard, the people will want something different for once and BOOM! Enter: Dragon Ball Z.

They just need to do it right this time, make it beautifully different, Goku wins for once!

And will probably be the first anime movie to do well! Which is good, because it was Dragon Ball Z that made anime cool in America (HOW 'BOUT DAH?!)!
~That is of course, if the upcoming adaption of "Death Note" doesn't do well, followed by a possible "Bleach" movies, but those are two series I can care less for...

That is the sad, cold, hard truth if you think about it. Sorry my common fans, but I guess we'll all have to wait together even LONGER, BECAUSE "DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION" SCREWED OUR BIG MOMENT!

Case closed, for now, let's just enjoy Henry Cavill's face alongside his Justice League members. I know I'm excited for that too!

OK then, adiós.
