NMT: Deadpool Review
Hi everyone! This was a little too long of a wait, wasn't it? Well here it comes, my Deadpool Review!
Omg where do I start? Well, first off, this movie was in no other words, Deadpooliscious! This was the perfect fangirl/boy movie!
I really can't criticize it, so I'll get down to the facts and future-based opinions!
So, for those who are wondering, yes, Deadpool will get his sequel, in fact, the Saturday after the movie was released, was when they started filming. Their profit was only so sufficient, because their budget was low (and the next one will be as well, according the creators), and so, they really didn't need much to make another, but it turns out they got much more than they needed!
Now for the people wondering how are they disregarding X-Men Origins: Wolverine in this- well here's your answer! They cleverly went ahead and used the good ol' comic book knowledge! In X-Men Days Of Future Past, the past was fixed to better the future, but because of that, the Butterfly Effect happened. The Butterfly Effect is when you change something in the past that seems so insignificant at the time, it winds up playing a big part later on in the future. So in this movie, somehow, one of those events may have led to the altered origins of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool.
Will Wolverine make an appearance in the sequel?
Well, it's possible, but here's the thing. Deadpool was originally not supposed to connect with the X-Men at all, but if you saw the movie and/or the trailers, you see that isn't the case. And as Deadpool said in the movie, they obviously "couldn't afford another X-Men," which is true. Hugh Jackman is probably worth the most in the X-Men Franchise, so paying him to do this movie would be a lot for the budget. Speaking of his value, here's some more bad news....
Hugh Jackman decided he is done being Wolverine! He is expected to be in The Wolverine 2 and that's it. He was supposed to be in The Wolverine 3 too, but that's not looking likely anymore. And, as much as I love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, he deserves his finish. Did you know he had cancer on his face, twice?! And he sacrifices his health for those movies, like...like....a lot! When it comes down to the movies, Jackman becomes the mirror definition of a "health nut."
Now who will be the new Wolverine? Well, nobody was selected yet...BUT, a while ago, someone made fan-art of who should be the next Wolverine, and when Hugh Jackman himself found the picture online, he immediately agreed that this guy would be the perfect actor (and yes, this is the art):
Tom Hardy...
I see it. He's got the looks...but can he act it?....Not sure, it'd be fun to find out though! I have a slight sceptic feeling about this one, but it's not definite, at all!
Heck, in an interview, Jackman even said it could be Taron Egerton (who was co-interviewing Jackman as well)! They laughed about it, and Egerton said he couldn't, because he couldn't grow out the beard (thanks, good save Egerton!).
So that evidently shows no one knows who will fill in Wolverine's boots and IF they're going to have him in Deadpool 2, we'll most likely be seeing the new actor there.
Now I wanna talk about the movie some more. As successful as it was, this movie is dangerous! They made so many outer references, such as the Green Lantern movie and Disney's/Marvel's Cinematic Universe. This movie could've started sooo many problems, but they dodged each of them so well!
With Green Lantern, it's sort of expected, just Marvel talking smack to DC, or rather, Ryan Reynolds letting out some steam, and officially claiming that he will never return to reprise his role as the titular hero.
As for the MCU...oh no, hahaha. First off, for those who don't know, the reason we haven't seen any X-Men in the MCU, is because Marvel is owned by Disney now. But before that, Marvel relied on Fox to make their movies (so, Fox owns X-Men movies) so when Disney bought Marvel, the Fox/Marvel contract never ended, and it is still respected as long as Fox is able to keep making successful movies. But really, Marvel kind of wants to break off Fox finally, because Disney's doing much better with them. So Disney and Fox aren't really on the best terms!
But, Deadpool almost made some serious contract infringements! At the end of the movie, they made three references to Disney's/Marvel's Universe (Note: Under the contract, Fox and Marvel's movies are not to coincide with each other at all)!
Remember at the end of the movie they were fighting on this giant, abandoned craft?
Well, the concept artist of this hunk of junk admitted that this was indeed supposed to be a Helicarrier- that big old ship S.H.I.E.L.D. flies in the Avengers movies (which by the way, the Avengers belong to Marvel (or Disney), not Fox ("Deadpool" movie- an X-Men character, which Fox owns all of them!)). This was Strike One for me.
Also, remember when Deadpool was fighting all of the bad guys, he stops and talks to one of them, remembering him as his friend Bob?
Well, in the comics, one of Deadpool's companions is Bob.....an agent of Hydra- S.H.I.E.L.D.'s enemy in the Marvel movies and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (again, Disney's property).
Strike Two!
Lastly, in Deadpool's post-credit scene, Deadpool mentions "Samuel L. Jackson in an eyepatch..." <aka, Nick Fury, who is key in the MCU.
STRIIIIKE THREE! YOU'RE....not out?
Why hasn't Disney or DC complained yet? Not sure, but I'll guess it's because this is the kind of character Deadpool is and maybe they liked the movie too! Especially Disney, Chris Pratt (Guardians Of The Galaxy) and Chris Evans (Avengers: Age Of Ultron)- who are both working for Disney- saw Deadpool and highly praised it on Twitter! In response, Ryan Reynolds tweeted back, thanking both of them, and directed to Chris Evans that he officially claims he is on Team Captain America (a reference to Captain America: Civil War)! Which I loved this, because in the comics, the X-Men actually sided with Captain America in the end (but I'm not sure about Deadpool, I don't even think he was involved in the war)- but it's a shame Fox and Disney have that contract because now we can't see the X-Men in Captain America: Civil War. But I guess that doesn't matter really, because in the comic, the X-Men remained neutral until Team Iron Man dragged them into the mess.
What did you guys think of Deadpool? If you have any questions about this that may confuse you, let me know in the comments below!
My rating: 5/5.
