Chapter-38
I turned around to see the lady standing behind me.
"Ohh, I'm sorry", I did breathing heavily due to the shock.
"Lucy", Adam came in running, listening to the scream.
"Are you okay?", Athena asked me.
"Lucy, what happened?", Adam came in as he held me by my arms gently turning to himself.
"Nothing, I'm fine, was just startled to see her, uhhmm, you behind me", I said looking at the woman, after looking into Adam's eyes assuring him I was fine.
"How can I help you?", she asked.
"I uhmm wanted to talk to you, remember?" I said.
"Yes of course darling, but your friend here doesn't particularly like me I guess", she said.
I looked at Adam who was boring holes into the lady only with the look he had on his face.
He looked at me and I eyed him to calm down, and he did.
"Please come in", she said walking past us, entering the backyard door.
We entered the asylum through the kitchen.
The house was as new as a leaf from the inside. No one could have guessed that it was being taken care off so well from the inside.
"How long have you been living here?", I asked.
"Long enough for it to turn into an old creepy asylum", she said.
Could she read my thoughts or was it that obvious?
She asked us to sit on the couch in the drawing room.
The two of us sat together while she brought tea for us and sat on the opposite side of the table.
The table was low till our knees and she made the tea from the tea set she had brought in with her.
She placed the cup of tea in front of Adam and me, and then dipped her own tea.
After Adam was sure she drank the tea, he picked the cup that was on the table and signaled me to take it as well.
She probably saw this but didn't say anything.
"So what did you want to ask?"
"Do you know anything about the cave", I asked.
"My grand mother is buried there", she said.
"I uhh we know, but a cave for her grave", I asked in confusion.
She didn't say anything, but the silence that surrounded us wasn't comfortable at all.
"Please, if you could help us", she looked at me and was about to say something but she restricted herself.
"Athena", I referred to her from her first name trying to comfort her, "my friends are in trouble and I don't really know if I'm being paranoid, but I've been suspecting something on the cave, and as much as I want it to be a wrong gut feeling, I want to be sure that I tried at-least. Please help us. If you can", i said trying to hit a nerve in her so that she could connect with me emotionally and open up about her.
"That is a very long story. But a friend like you is hard to find, Lucy". She said.
"How does she know your name?", Adam whispered to me.
"We introduces ourselves the other day in the market", I said while she smile gently to see Adam's concern for me.
"My story is messed up, and no matter how much I try to think of it as a superstition, I am forced to believe in its power", she said.
I listened to her but didn't understand where she was going with this.
"Sorry, I didn't get you there", I said politely.
"The power", she repeated.
"Of?", Adam asked her to continue.
"The curse, the curse that had fallen on us, and had destroyed so many lives, so many lives", she said looking to the table now thinking something, lost in her thoughts.
"What do you mean?", I asked her.
Just when I was expecting her to continue, we heard a glass break in the direction of the kitchen. Our necks snapped in the direction of the kitchen and we followed Athena as she left the room.
"Oh the children", she said as she evaluated the broken glass.
There was a ball on the floor.
Adam picked the ball and handed it over to Athena.
"The kids?", he asked.
"Hmm, children come here to play, and seeing this building they think no one lives here and they break the glass for fun", she said in a frustrated manner.
"This is the 3rd this month", she said.
"Here I'll help you", I said and bent down to pick the glass up.
"Ouch", Athena whined in pain as the piece of glass she was trying to pick up from the ground pierced the skin of her hand.
"Oh it's deep", I said looking at her hand.
"Where is the first aid kit?", Adam asked and Athena pointed to one of the cabinets in the kitchen.
Adam took out kit and u picked the remaining glass from the ground and threw it in the bin.
We next went back in the drawing room and applied the ointment on Athens's hand making her sit between the two of us.
I dressed her hand to stop the bleeding after applying the antiseptic and Adam handed over the items necessary to do the same.
We placed the things back into the first aid box and kept it on the table, where the tea set with cold tea now stood.
"So you wanted to talk", she said.
"Yes", I said moving back to the seat opposite to her with the table now between us again. Adam came to sit next to me on the same couch.
"We want answers, why is your grandmother's grave in the cave?", Adam asked.
