chapter forty nine.
Love and War — Fleurie
Gianina was a bit rusty of her ballet moves but, as she performed a grand jeté, it was as if she was falling right back into her old patterns. She forgot the rush of calm and relief she had from dancing, especially after all this time away from New York. However, right now, in this moment, she was feeling herself again.
Her leotard clung onto her skin, and her pointe shoes formed tightly around her foot, giving her the structure she had been craving since getting back to Mystic Falls.
"You are truly talented." Klaus spoke from behind the girl, who stopped mid dance with a sigh.
"What do you want, Klaus?" Gianina questioned with a forced smile.
"To protect you, to my knowledge, there is a very skilled hunter in town, and we don't know what hes capable of." The Mikaelson man clapped his hands together. "Come on, love. I've made a few hybrids to keep you safe, they're at the Lockwood mansion."
"Why is it you feel like you can leave whenever you want and then pop back up like its nothing? Like you never left in the first place?" Gia questioned, bending down to take a sip from her water bottle, her mouth dry.
"I had things to tend to in Chicago but, I turned around as soon as I found out you were in danger." Klaus spoke sincerely but, still with a hint of cockiness that angered Gianina. "If you were truly concerned about my whereabouts, you would have called."
"Things like turning werewolves into hybrids, hm?" The Salvatore woman rolled her eyes. "Why do you feel like you have to force peoples loyalty?"
"Yours would be enough but it seems you are too ashamed of your feelings for me to admit we are allies." The Mikaelson man spoke simply, and plainly. "I'd like you to join Tyler with the other hybrids at your own free will but know, for your safety I will use force to get you there."
"You're joking." Gia scoffed lightly, shaking her head. "I cannot die, how would my safety be in danger."
"Very well, have it your way." Klaus approached the girl, and within a moment, she was slung over his shoulder. "That's better."
"I'm kicking your ass when you let me down." The Salvatore woman mumbled.
"I'm sure you will, love. I'm sure you will." Niklaus responded with a grin.
At least she would be meeting people like her, ones who share the same blessing and curse.
When Klaus said there were hybrids to protect her, Gianina figured she'd actually be to talk to them. However, once they arrived, she was thrown into a room with Tyler, and kept there. It wasn't hard for the two of them to make conversation, they had always been connected in some way.
Still, she was mad Klaus was making her stay here when she could be dancing,
"I used to play tons of football when I was younger." Gia noted as Tyler threw the ball her way, catching it in her hands. "Been at least a hundred and something years since then."
"Damn, you're old." A girl spoke as she entered the room, one she had never seen before but one who seemed familiar all at once.
"Hayley?" Tyler questioned as he stood up and hugged the girl tightly.
"Hey, Lockwoof." She replied with a grin, and laugh, one of a girl who was very much into him.
"Who's Hayley?" Gianina questioned, throwing the football gently onto the couch before crossing her arms.
"She's a werewolf." Tyler answered as they pulled away from the hug, Hayley punching him in the chest.
"I thought Klaus killed him." The brunette said angrily but, playfully all at the same time. "Ass."
"I'm sorry, I should have called." The Lockwood boy looked at Gianina awkwardly every time he responded, making her think there was something between them.
"From your trailer in Florida? You liar, you're totally loaded." Hayley made herself comfortable on the desk. "I chained you up all through the Appalachians. I talked you through every turn. Helped you break the sire bond. You could have told me your real story."
"I didn't want anybody to follow me back." Tyler defended.
"Seems like you didn't want any of your friends to know about her either, you never said anything." Gianina confronted the boy, leaning against the coach and settling herself eerily similarly to the way Hayley had.
"He said plenty about you, the queen hybrid herself, Gia, right?" Hayley wore a mischievous grin as she was speaking. "How is it being the only hybrid not sire bonded to Klaus?"
Gianina didn't let the question phase her, she simply shrugged her shoulders, "speaking of Klaus, you're not exactly safe here, little wolf."
"I know, I used to run with the pack of one of his hybrids, and when I heard he was protecting a guy named Tyler—..."
"You just had to come." Gianina didn't exactly know the situation between the two of them yet but, for Caroline's sake she was being cautious of Hayley.
"You don't like me." The Marshall girl noted, observing the Salvatore womans behavior.
"I wouldn't say that." The hybrid shrugged her shoulders. "Just don't know you."
Gia had enough of trusting all the wrong people, even if she had declared that for the millionth time.
Gianina's own suspicions were confirmed once Klaus met Hayley, and came to the same conclusion she had. She warned Tyler that if he didn't tell Caroline, she would, and then went with Klaus to take care of the hunter. It seemed he didn't take too kindly to a possible threat to her, and wanted to eliminate it immediately.
When he got a call from Damon saying he knew how, he was on his feet to do so immediately.
Through lots of fighting, Gianina finally convinced him to let her join. She used the fact that she was an hybrid, one that could not die. Then explained to him there was absolutely no use in being one if she cowered away at every adversary.
Eventually, she folded, just as he always did in her presence.
"First a funeral, now a hospital, you guys show up everywhere." Connor spoke as he entered the room, spotting Damon and Gia. "Weird place for a germaphobe."
"Did I say germaphobe, I meant vampire." The eldest Salvatore spoke confidently with a sly grin.
The hunter leaped forward as he grabbed a weapon from his side but, stakes plunged into his arms from both sides, the trio having set up traps from his own RV. Still, he tried to grab the weapon he had dropped, Klaus stepping on it before the man could get to it. It was then he knew he was in for much more than he had bargained for.
"Hello, mate." The Mikaelson man spoke with his signature smile.
The Salvatore siblings moved forward, Gia between Klaus and her brother with her arms folded across her chest.
"It's just gonna hurt more and more as you do that." The younger Salvatore spoke as she pointed at the man, the hunter trying to pull the arrows out of his skin.
"Keep it up, buddy. They'll be scraping you off the ceiling." Damon added threateningly, narrowing his eyes.
"You are gonna kill me anyways." Connor responded through his teeth, the man sweating profusely.
"Well, let's not be too hasty. I feel like we're just getting to know each other." Klaus responded, almost gently which surprised his fellow hybrid greatly.
"The nicer you are to us, the nicer we are to you. It's not that hard." Gianina spoke, the Jordan man glaring at her slightly.
"Alright, let's start with the basics. Where are you from? What do you know? Maybe you can cue me in on this greater evil, because i've fought this guy and there's nothing more evil than that." Damon went on, handing a piece of paper over to the oldest in the room.
"He's pretty much as close as you'll get to the devil, yeah." Gia confirmed, nodding her head.
"Truth be told, I am as evil as it gets." Klaus nodded along, knowing it was true.
"I'm not telling you anything." Connor spat back, his words laced with venom, it was like his honor code was to never supply a vampire anything, even if it meant he was killed. "Do you think if you kill me it's gonna be over? There's another waiting to take my place."
Respectable enough, for someone who cared about that kind of thing.
"See, this is what I like to hear. Vague threats, ominous prophecies... disappearing tattoos." Damons words almost seemed to frighten both Klaus, and Jordan, both for different reasons.
"What do you mean tattoos?" The Mikaelson man questioned.
"Don't bother, you can't see the damn thing." Damon replied with a shrug.
"Then how the hell did you find out about it?" Gianina asked with a raised brow.
"Your little bestie Jeremy Gilbert, of course." The Salvatore gave his sister a smug smile, as if him knowing something she didn't gave him joy.
"There's more to you than meets the eye, isn't there?" It seemed Klaus wasn't paying attention to the two siblings, lost in his own thought as he lowered himself to Jordan.
The Connor man lunged forward with a wooden stake, trying to stab Klaus to no avail. He caught the hunters hand with ease, twisting his arm and taking it out of his hand, "nice try but, i'm faster than the average vampire."
The Mikaelson man inspected the wood closely, and upon seeing a mark on it, his face dropped completely.
"You're one of the five." He breathed out in complete and utter shock.
"The what?" The Salvatore siblings asked,
"I'm faster than your average hunter." Jordan answered, pulling into the strings he was attached to.
Next thing Gianina knew, there was an explosion, and fire all around her.
After healing because of the explosion Klaus picked up Gia from her house and took her into the woods which, in any normal circumstances, she would have assumed was to kill her. However, she knew Klaus by now, and knew he would never hurt her. Putting her in a situation she didn't want to be in though?
Well, that was always on the table.
"You wanna tell me what we're doing out in the middle of nowhere?" The Salvatore woman questioned with an eyebrow raised.
"Don't worry, love. You'll see." He spoke with a grin, the pair reaching a clearing where an RV was parked. "Everything will reveal itself soon enough."
They walked up to it, Klaus making sure he was in the front just in case something happened. He swung open the door, peaked his head in, and when everything was fine, he climbed the stairs. Next, he extended his hand, and helped her up the hybrid still wondering what was happening.
She was surprised to see Jordan Connor on the couch passed out.
"Interesting, isn't it?" The Mikaelson man asked with a laugh.
Jordan shook awake, and tried to jump up to rub but, Klaus pushed him back into place.
"You saved me?" The hunter asked, brows furrowed.
"Congratulations, you just became worth more to us alive than dead." Klaus replied to him, as if Gia was aware of what was happening.
"What—... what did you mean when you said I was one of the five?" Connor asked with a stutter.
"You don't know your own history?" Klaus lowered himself to the mans level. "Let's just say its made you the most well protected vampire hunter in town"
Suddenly, Gia realized there was a lot more going on in Mystic Falls than she knew of.
Authors note:
