chapter fifty two.
Up in flames — Ruelle
Gianina practically ran to the Gilbert house upon hearing what Elena had done to Jeremy. Apparently, in a fit of hallucinations, she had stabbed him in the neck, resulting in his death. Or, what would have been his death if he wasn't wearing his ring.
At least that thing was good for something.
"She's not right in the head right now." Gia whispered to her brothers, who were both in distress, seeing the girl they loved in despair.
She didn't care about that though, she cared about making sure her best friend was okay.
"She can probably hear you." Stefan spoke with a sigh.
"Good, she can take some accountability. You guys telling her everything is gonna be alright isn't helping, it's just going to make things worse." Gianina explained to her brothers, who simply exchanged glances not knowing what to say.
Just then, Jeremy gasped awake, the boy sitting up straight on the couch.
"Oh, thank god. Are you okay?" Gia knelt down in front of the couch and grabbed the boys face, tilting his chin up to see if his stab wound had healed.
It was completely fine, save for some blood that had dried to his neck already.
"Welcome back. How are you feeling?" Stefan questioned nonchalantly.
"What happened?" Jeremy looked into Gia's eyes, a look of genuine fear on his face.
"Long story, buy the e-book." Damon replied with a small shrug, the smug look on his face making his sister roll her eyes.
"Don't be a dick." She spat, before looking towards her best friend. "Elena is... not doing well right now, and there was some mix up and she stabbed you."
"What—what—..." the boy stuttered out, obviously confused.
"I'm going to go check on Elena." Stefan said awkwardly before going up the stairs to do as he said.
"I'm going to go clean up all your blood, excuse me." Damon spoke with a condescending tone, walking towards the kitchen.
"Did Elena really—"
"She did, and we don't know why yet but, we're trying to figure it all out, okay? In the meantime, you should go to school, get out of the house, and away from all this." Gianina suggested, her hand firmly placed on the boys shoulder for comfort.
She knew this was a temporary solution, and maybe not even the best one but, it was all she had.
"You're right, I told Bonnie i'd help her with something, I gotta go." Jeremy got up, and completely distraught, walked off.
Gia let herself slump down and her back hit the couch with a sigh.
Apparently, Elena had contracted some curse after killing the Hunter, and Klaus knew all about it. To save her from killing herself because of the torment of the curse, he took her away. While Gia didn't care much about what happened to Elena, she knew that the hybrids, Jeremy, Tyler, Caroline, and her brothers were all somehow wrapped up in the middle of this all.
So, she was sent in as a distraction.
Everyone knew about the complicated emotions Klaus Mikaelson felt for her, and they felt this would give an advantage. While he was distracted, Damon would find out more about the curse, while Stefan, Tyler, and Caroline would try to convince a hybrid or two to help their cause. She seemingly got the easiest part of all this, and that worked for her.
"So, buy me a drink?" Gianina spoke as she approached the bar, sitting directly next to the hybrid.
"Ah, Gianina. I assume your brothers sent me to ask for Elena. I apologize but, I cannot do it. She needs my help." Klaus replied with a smile, swirling his drink in his hand.
"Hm, I came to have a drink with a friend but, now that you mention it, letting Elena go would be a plus." The Salvatore woman reached over the counter and grabbed herself a bottle and a glass, pouring herself a drink.
"Yes, now we are friends because you need a favor." The Mikaelson man chuckled to himself. "Elena is very sick, that curse is not to be messed with."
"So tell me what it's like, help me understand." Gia pleaded with the man, looking directly into his eyes.
He faltered slightly but, began to confide in her, "I had it for over fifty years. It destroyed me, tortured me, haunted me. Seeing their faces everywhere, their constant nagging about what I had done. It was unbearable, I wanted to take my own life. She will feel the same, I am trying to prevent that."
Gianina couldn't even begin to imagine what he had gone through, and what Elena was now going through, and she couldn't help but wonder if Klaus might be able to handle this better than her brothers.
"It sounds terrible." She shook her head, taking a big gulp of her drink in response, just as her phone started to ping.
Bunny muncher
I had elena
She got away from me
Don't know where she is
Shit.
"We have a slight problem, Klaus." The Salvatore girl spoke to him with a sigh, turning off her phone.
"... and what would that be, love?" He asked with a grin.
"Stefan, who knew nothing about the curse or why you took her got inside your house to save Elena. He managed to get in but, he also accidentally let her get away. Looks like this is going to be a problem." Gianina winced, thinking she'd be the source of whatever anger this man was feeling in that moment.
Girlfriend stealer
Figured out how to stop hallucinations
Klaus got up, the anger in his face evident before Gia read the text and grabbed his arm.
"They figured out how to stop it, all of it." She explained, the man still angry but relaxing slightly.
At least she knew how to calm him down, maybe he would be in a better mood before he got to her brothers and the hybrids.
There comes a time where you have to choose between two things that you care about. For Gianina, this time was now when she had to choose between Jeremy, and the hybrids. Though she felt a familial closeness to the hybrids, Jeremy had been the only person in Mystic Falls to care for her, and never waiver in doing such.
So, she chose him.
To stop Elena's hallucinations, a potential hunter must kill a vampire to begin to see their mark. While she would have preferred to keep the hybrids alive, and keep Elena insane instead, she knew Stefan, Damon, and Klaus would force him to do this anyways.
As a result, she went with Jeremy, to ensure he'd be safe, physically, and mentally.
"Are you sure you're ready for this?" She asked the boy, who nodded his head slightly.
"It's for my sister, I have to." Jeremy looked tense, almost as if he didn't really want to do it but, Gia knew that already. She hoped he wouldn't keep this in his conscious and feel guilty, he wasn't the one who was being malicious here.
He was the victim of everyone else's malicious intent.
"He needs to be ready." Stefan spoke as she walked up the steps toward the Lockwood mansion.
Just then, the hybrid of choice came towards the door, and after strengthening his grip on his stake, Stefan leapt forward to attack. They burst through Tyler's front door entrance and the hybrid fell to the ground. Jeremy came in behind, Gia not too far after.
"What the hell?" Tyler questioned, his eyes wide in disbelief.
"I'm sorry." Stefan apologized but, it was clear he wasn't. This was for Elena, and he would go to hell and back if it meant keeping her safe and happy.
Gianina truly was though, and as Jeremy lifted his arms to kill the hybrid, a simple tear rolled down her eye, the sounds of Hayley screaming practically haunting her.
"What did you do?" Tyler asked, the question was directed at Jeremy but, his eyes were on Gianina.
She was one of them, and he felt betrayed.
"So much for being a hybrid queen, huh? You helped kill one of your own." Hayley spat out angrily, the death of her friend sending her into an almost blinding rage.
She was right, there was no denying that.
Authors note:
Here is another chapter, I know I have had this book up a very long time (at least two years) so, I really want to finish it.
Do you think Gianina and Hayley will ever make up and be friends?
Hope you enjoyed!
