chapter fifty six.
just want u to feel something — artemas
Apparently, Jeremy's urge to kill every vampire he had come across was dulling by the day thanks to some training, and Gia took that as the perfect opportunity to take a vacation away from Mystic Falls. The drive up to the cabin gave her a sense of peace she didn't know she needed up until now, and she was excited to see Jeremy. He truly was the friend that made her feel better upon seeing him.
No matter the circumstances.
Closing the door to her car and slinging her duffle over her shoulder, Gia made her way to the back of the cabin. Along with little Gilbert, she knew that Matt and Damon would be there too. Admittedly she wasn't too excited for the Damon aspect of this trip but, beggars can't be choosers.
"Hello, brother." She called out to catch the blue eyed mans attention, his ear pressed up against his phone.
"What are you doing here?" Quickly, the elder Salvatore stuffed his phone in his pocket and turned his attention to his sister, eyes narrowed.
"I came to visit Jeremy, what else would I be doing here?" Gianina threw her bag onto the picnic table that held multiple daggers, and other instruments used to defend oneself against vampires.
"This isn't boarding school you can't just—"
"Gia!" Jeremy caught sight of the hybrid and immediately ran over, puddles of sweat dripping down his face as he picked her up into a hug. "It's really good to see you."
"It's really good to know you don't have the urge to kill me anymore." The Salvatore girl responded with a slight laugh as he put her down.
"I still have the urge.. just kind of able to control it now." The Gilbert responded awkwardly, shrugging his shoulders. "Tell me you brought snacks, I need snacks."
"I did bring snacks. I know you and Matt eat enough for 10 people. They're in the car." Gia placed her hands on her hips. "So what do you boys do out here all day?"
"Train. He's supposed to train." Damon responded dryly.
"Apologies, am I interrupting playtime?" His voice sent shivers down the Salvatore girls spine. She hadn't seen him since the night he killed the hybrids, and Mayor Lockwood who she quite enjoyed. She very much planned on keeping it that way.
"What the hell are you doing out here?" Jeremy questioned, obviously quite annoyed.
"Ah, well. I'm simply appreciating the sights and smells of nature. Neither of which presently include rotting vampire flesh so, i'm a bit concerned. How many vampires has he killed?" He looked between the Salvatore siblings, not an ounce of remorse from him, that was what truly made Gianina's blood boil. How could he have so many feelings one moment, and none the next? There was no switch with the man, that was just him.
"If we throw Jeremy out into the world right now, he's chum." Damon replied with a sigh.
"Yeah, see, that's not a number. Twelve. That's a number. That's how many of the hybrids I slaughtered with my sword. Three, that's how many days it took to quell the urge to kill your brother, after he knowingly watched as I walked into a death trap. One, Damon, that's the number of purposes you serve. You are here to grow Jeremy's mark." Klaus began to walk closer to the Salvatore, causing Gia to step between her brother and the original vampire. "So i'll ask again. How many vampires has he killed since he's been here?"
"What a long winded question." Gianina huffed, rolling her eyes.
"... and yet, I still have no answer." The Mikaelson man snapped.
"Zero." Damon replied, a look of frustration in his eyes.
"That's a pity." Klaus smiled mischievously. "I'm gonna need that cure sooner rather than later. Hybrid shortage and all. How can I help?"
The offer was surprising to Gianina the first few moments, until she realized he only did so to benefit himself.
Damon tapped his sister on the shoulder, the woman turning to look at him. "You thinking what i'm thinking?" He ushered his head towards the table, then back at Klaus.
Gianina nodded in response and in unison, the pair grabbed weapons from the table. Together, they both quickly aimed at Klaus, the wooden bullets hitting him directly in the chest. Klaus was able to grunt in pain, staring at them angrily.
"That's for Carol Lockwood." Damon spoke angrily.
"... and the hybrids." Gianina added, her eyes shifting towards Jeremy. "That's how you shoot a vampire."
It did feel quite good to take a hit at Klaus Mikaelson.
Gianina silently, and slowly began to pull one of the bullets from Klaus's chest. Her never endless guilt bothered her so, she kept quiet as she did this, knowing that no matter how she felt about this whole situation, she would feel bad for someone. If Klaus got the cure, he would no doubt use it for Elena, which would in turn hurt Stefan who also obviously longed to be human.
Who knew what the cure really entailed? Was there enough for more than one vampire? Would it really work? Would it be worth all the pain it is causing? All those questions stirred through her mind endlessly.
"I have yet to forgive you for what transpired the other night." Klaus finally spoke, breaking the silence between the two of them. It was an awful way to do it, especially after everything he had done.
Annoyedly, Gia ripped the first bullet from his chest before responding, the Mikaelson wincing slightly.
"There is nothing to forgive. I didn't know what they were going to do to you. They don't tell me anything because they know how I feel about you." The words slipped through Gianina's mouth before she could think about them, and by then it was too late.
"... and how do you feel about me?" Klaus questioned with a grin.
"I feel bad for you." Gia replied, the smile on the mans face going away. An awkward tension began to surround them, the younger of the vampires reaching in to grab the last bullet. "You're an outsider in your family, in Mystic Falls. I know what thats like. I relate to that, people see it, they see the similarities between us, the... bond, and they don't like it."
The Mikaelson man simply started at the Salvatore woman as she removed the bullet and wiped her hands clean of his blood. She looked up and made the same eye contact, neither of them willing to fold. Klaus simply didn't want to look "soft" in front of the woman, and she wasn't willing to submit.
"Hey, uhm—" Jeremy cleared his throat, neither vampire having realized he entered the room. "Dinners ready."
"You both go." Klaus began to button his shirt back together. "I have things to attend to."
Gianina nodded and stood up, heading towards the door. She couldn't help but wonder what was so important for him to do but, who knew in the world of Niklaus Mikaelson. He was a mystery if there ever was one.
For now, she'd simply sit at the dinner table, and have a relaxing evening with her best friend.
As she brushed her hair, Gianina heard some sort of ruckus on the upstairs floor. That was where Matt was staying, and seeing as Klaus was not the Donovan boys biggest fan, the woman assumed the Mikaelson man was bullying the blonde. Quickly, she sped towards the top floor, passing Jeremy on the way.
When she made it there, it was not Klaus causing the trouble. A blonde woman was on top of Matt attacking him, and by the looks of it, she was a vampire. Within seconds, Gianina was pulling her off the boy, Jeremy making it up the stairs at the same time.
The blonde wriggled in Gia's arms, and it was easy to keep her still to the hybrid girl, most things were easy since she had made the hybrid change.
"Gigi!" Jeremy went to throw a stake towards the Salvatore but, she shook her head.
"You can do it, Jer." Deep down Gianina knew that if Jeremy didn't work towards his hunters mark, Klaus would hold him accountable in some way.
He had to do it, even if he didn't want to.
With minimal hesitance, Jeremy ran forward, and plunged the stake into the blonde girls chest. Gianina allowed her to drop towards the floor with a thud, the blonde going completely pale. In a weird way, Gia was proud of her friend but, the irony was not lost in her mind that her best friend now hunted her species.
"Did it work?" She questioned, referring to the mark.
Jeremy nodded silently, staring at his arm, Gianina took his word for it.
