Ruhaan dropped off his bags at his residence and immediately rushed to Tapasya's house. He had decided that he couldn't wait any longer and just had to see her before he went crazy.

He pressed the doorbell and waited. Two chimes were heard on the other side. After a long anxious minute, the door opened and a lady ,whom he recognised as Tapasya's maid, peered out. She immediately let him in and asked him to sit as she went to call Tapasya.

Ruhaan paced around anxiously waiting for Tapasya to come down, when suddenly,

Kunal: What are you doing here?!

Ruhaan almost jumped at the voice coming from upstairs. He looked up and saw Kunal angrily rushing down the stairs.

Ruhaan: Uncle I....

Kunal stopped at the end of the stairs and glared at him. That glare alone spent shivers down Ruhaan's spine.

Kunal: I told you to stay the heck away from my family! How dare you come here after that?!

Ruhaan: Uncle I just came to see Tapas-

Kunal: Don't! Don't utter her name with that filthy mouth of yours!

Ruhaan: But uncle, why are you so mad at me? Have I done something wrong? Please tell me so I can fix it. Why are you treating me this way?

Kunal: Wow honestly....with that world class acting of yours, I almost believe you!

The commotion downstairs was heard by Tapasya. As she glanced at the scenario downstairs, her heart missed a beat. As happy as she was to finally see Ruhaan, she knew whatever was coming next was going to be way worse than that.

Ruhaan turned his attention to her, as she nervously tip - toed downstairs. He smiled slightly.

Kunal, seeing him smile, turned around and found his daughter nervously looking at both of them.

Kunal: Tapasya go back to your room ! Now!

Taps: Dad please-

Kunal: I said GO TO YOUR ROOM!

Tapasya shuddered at his voice.

Ruhaan: Uncle, if you are mad about the kiss, please don't blame Tapasya. You can be mad at me as much as you want, but please don't be mad at her.

Tapasya looked at him with a 'Why are you so good?' look. Her dad was practically hurling insults at him but he still was trying to defend her.

Kunal: SHUT UP! You don't tell me what to do with my daughter!

Taps: Dad.....

Kunal: Get out of my house! NOW!

Ruhaan: Uncle, please tell me what I've done to piss you so much! I'm sorry I... I.....

Kunal: You really wanna know what crime you've committed?! Why don't you go ask your father?

Taps: Dad no....

Ruhaan furrowed his brows in confusion.

Ruhaan: My father?

Kunal gritted his teeth and answered,

Kunal: Yes, your father! Why don't you go and ask that scumbag son of a bitch what he has done?!

Taps: Dad!

Ruhaan staggered back mentally at that. He couldn't decipher what the hell had gone down between his dad and Kunal that he was so mad. He asked in a feeble voice,

Ruhaan:What has he done?

Kunal: Go ask him that! I'm sure he'll have plenty of excuses for what he did! Or maybe he'll lie to you just like he lied to me!

Ruhaan: Lied to you? What....why?

Kunal scoffed and said,

Kunal: Stop that act of yours! I know your father purposely sent you after my daughter! All you Shergills care about is money! When he couldn't get enough from me, he sent his son to finish his job!

Ruhaan opened his mouth but nothing came out of it.

Ruhaan: My dad did what?

Tapasya:(soft whimper) Dad please....

Kunal: HE BETRAYED ME! I trusted him more than myself! And he stabbed me in the back! There you go , that's what your dad did.

Ruhaan's brain froze for just about a minute or half, trying to process the new information. He couldn't believe it. His dad could never betray anyone. Sure, he had his flaws. But he was never the one to stab someone in the back.

He struggled to find words to calm the beast in front of him as well as put his point of view in front of him.

Ruhaan: Uncle.... I....my dad.....how? Why would my dad betray you?

Kunal: Because all he cares about is the money, you imbecile! Your dad is a fucking gold digger!

Ruhaan: Uncle!

Taps: Dad!

Both of them shouted at the same time and proceeded to look at each other helplessly.

Kunal: That alone made your skin crawl already?! What would you do when you hear the whole truth?!

Ruhaan's breathing became heavy. He tried to calm himself and answer him in the most subtle way possible.

Ruhaan: What is the real truth?

Kunal turned his attention towards the boy who had asked the question. He furrowed his brows and asked,

Kunal: You really wanna know? Then here it is. I and your dad were buisness partners. But more than that, we were friends. Atleast that's what I considered us to be. For him, it was always a plan. A plan to get close to me and then betray me in the worst possible way ever.

Ruhaan gulped as Kunal went on,

Kunal: For the last few months, I've been facing problems with my business. Money problems. A lot of cash would suddenly go "missing" without a trace of the robber, and and I would sunk into deep despair of where my money went. I didn't  bother at first but then it started happening almost every month. By the end of November I was emersed in debt, so much that I couldn't even afford a new chair for my office.

Dread filled inside Ruhaan as he anticipated what was coming next.

Kunal: Your father decided to"help me" at that time and offered me a huge amount of money as a loan which he said I could pay when I would receive the next payment from the deal that I was going to crack in December. And I believed him. That was my first mistake. To trust that scumbag.

Ruhaan clenched his fist but remained quiet.

Kunal: Two weeks ago I cracked the deal with that client and got the payment soon after. I wanted to pay off your dad as soon as I could because I hated living in debt. And guess what I found when I went to see your dad...... your dad, that asshole, was the one who was robbing me this whole time. Do you even realise how I felt at that moment? I trusted that guy with everything. And he fucking stabbed me in the back.

Ruhaan felt almost dizzy. He wanted to prove that whatever Kunal was saying wasn't true and that his dad was a clean man.

Kunal: That "loan" that your dad gave me....was from my own hard earned money! And he made it seem like he was the one doing me favours.

Ruhaan somehow managed to blurt out,

Ruhaan: How did you know it was him?

Kunal: I caught him red handed. He was talking to someone on the phone about he would party that night with my goddamn money because he had finally accomplished in his plan of keeping me in the dark for so long! And don't you understand? He's my buisness partner! He has  access to every single of my bank accounts and the company's financial statements!

Ruhaan didn't believe his ears. He was sure this man had misunderstood the whole situation. His dad could never do that to anybody.

Kunal: He could've told me if he needed money that bad! I would have lended him whatever he wished to have. But no! He had to go behind my back to do this!

Tapasya's muffled cries  were heard in the room. She pressed her palm against her mouth to stop the sound of the whimpers.

After a long pregnant pause, Ruhaan said,

Ruhaan: No......my dad...he could never do this.

Kunal and Tapasya both looked at him in disbelief. Throwing his hands in the air, Kunal said,

Kunal: Fine! If you choose to remain oblivious to your dad's deeds, then so be it. But I don't want you or anyone from your family coming near my family again! Or I swear to God..... you wouldn't live to see the consequences.

Ruhaan , ignoring his comment, asked,

Ruhaan: Did you even talk to dad about this? Did he admit that he was stealing from you?

Taps: Ru..

Kunal: Why would I believe anything that that scumbag tells me?! He'll obviously defend himself....

Ruhaan: Uncle, you yourself admitted that you and he were friends before being partners. So  couldn't you have asked him why he did this for the sake of your friendship?

Kunal: I am not oblivious to whatever happens around me Ruhaan. I believe my own eyes and ears before anyone else.

Ruhaan: Yeah, but what if what you heard was wrong or maybe you misunderstood the whole situation....

Taps: Ruhaan!

Ruhaan stopped and looked at her. Her eyes had a dangling madness radiating from the pupils.

Taps: Why would my dad lie?

Ruhaan: I'm not saying he is lying, Tapasya. I'm just saying that maybe he misunderstood the whole situation...or...

Taps: Or maybe your dad actually did it.

Ruhaan looked at her in utter shock. He couldn't believe his ears. How could she even utter those words?

Ruhaan:(with disbelief) Tapasya... you...

Taps: I'm just saying Ru.... isn't it a possibility that your dad actually stole the money?I know he would surely have legitimate reasons for why he did it but....

But Ruhaan didn't let her finish. He raised his hand as a signal for her to stop talking.

Ruhaan: God, Tapasya! Since when did you become like this? You believed everything your dad told you and you can't even afford to listen to what my father might have to say in his defence?!

Taps: Ru... I'm not saying that.

Ruhaan: No, you're exactly saying that!

Kunal: See that Tapasya. I told you that these Shergills aren't worthy of being trusted! All they care about is themselves!

Ruhaan  felt his insides boiling with anger. And in that very moment, he snapped,

Ruhaan: You are talking as if you are any different!

Taps: Ruhaan!

Ruhaan paused to glare at her and then said,

Ruhaan: My dad didn't do anything. And I'll prove it to you. In seven days.

Saying that, he turned around and retraced his steps back to the main door when he heard Kunal's voice call,

Kunal: And what if you fail?!

Ruhaan stopped in his tracks and looked back at the father-daughter duo.

In a deep hoarse voice, he answered,

Ruhaan: If I fail,.....I would never....ever see Tapasya again.

Tapasya's heart skipped a beat and almost stopped for a millisecond. Hot tears sweeped down her throat and cheeks as she looked at the boy she loved looking at her painfully. She choked on a sob but not as much as a whimper came out of her throat.

And with those infamous last words, Ruhaan was gone.
