~The next day~

Mitali smiled as she watched Sahil put haldi on his brother's face. Her eyes drifted back to Shanu,who was standing next to her with a glum expression on her face. She nudged her and said,

Mitali: Shanu, ja na. Sahil is waiting for you. Won't you put haldi on Kavya?

Shanu: Mitu yaar, how can you be so normal after what happened yesterday? I don't feel like doing anything.

Mitali: Shanu, what did we decide yesterday? We'll deal with Ananya's problem once this wedding's over. If Sahil sees you like this, he'll know something's wrong. It's just a matter of 2 days. Tomorrow the wedding will be over. Just for two days forget about it,okay?

Shanu: I know I know. Even I don't wanna ruin Jai and Kavya's big day, but.....

Mitali: Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to. There's nothing we can do. Our only option is to wait.

Shanu nodded slightly.

Mitali: Now put a smile on your face and go to Kavya.

Shanu sighed and put a smile on her face and made her way to where Kavya was sitting. Taking a handful of haldi, she smeared it across her cheeks. Kavya grinned in response.

Mitali's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden sound of her ringtone. She quickly excused herself and went to a more secluded place.

Recieving the call, she answered,

Mitali: Hello?

Person: Mitu! Dadi bol rahi hu!

Mitali: Kya kuch sunai nahi de raha hai?! Ruko ek second mai speaker pe dalti hu.

Putting it on speaker, she said,

Mitali: Ha ab bolo?

Dadi: Mitu! Mai bol rahi hu!

Mitu: Ha voh pata hai Dadi. Uske baad bolo.

Dadi: Arrey tujhe maine kal phone kiya tha, tune uthaya hi nahi.

Mitu: Voh kal mehendi ceremony thi to hath mein mehendi lagi thi na isiliye utha nahi payi. Kyu kya hua?

Dadi: Arey yaad hai maine tujhe Saxena k baare mein bataya tha? Voh Saxena aur uska beta Rishabh aaj hi Dehradun aaye hain.

Mitu: Ha to?

Unknown to Mitali, Adi stood at a distance, waiting for her to finish her call so that he could put haldi on her face. And standing so close, he couldn't help but overhear their conversation.

Dadi: Ha to mai bol rahi thi ki......agar tu aa jati do dino ke liye to....... matlab teri dost ki shaadi khatam hone ke baad hi.....agar....

Mitali: Dadi maine aapse pehle bhi kaha hai na....mujhe abhi iss sab mein nahi parna. Aap to haar manna hi chahti!

Dadi: Rishabh bohut acha ladka hai, Mitu. Canada mein engineering par raha hai. Itne saalo tak baahar rehne ke baad bhi sanskaar vaise ke vaise hi hai.

Mitu: Ha to aap karlo shaadi!

Dadi: Mitu!

Mitu: Acha sorry sorry.....par dadi....

Dadi: Tu thode din ke liye aa nahi sakti. Acha iske liye nahi to apni dadi ke liye aa ja. Dadi ki yaad nahi aati kya?

Mitu: Ab yeh emotional blackmail mat karo aap. Acha Rishabh kitne din ke liye aaya hai?

Adi's eyes widened at hearing the familiar name. 'So this was the guy who had a crush on Mitali', he thought.

Dadi: Yahi kuch 2-4 hafto ke liye. 

Mitu: Acha thik hai mai dekhti hu mai kya kar sakti hu, okay? Par iska matlab ye nahi hai ki maine iss shaadi ke liye koi hami bhari hai,got it?

Adi tightened his fists on hearing that.

Dadi: Arrey ek baar usse mil legi na to tu khud iss shaadi ke liye ha keh degi.

Mitu: (jokingly) Ha voh to dekha jayega.

Adi's brows furrowed pertaining to the fact that she was even considering the possibility of getting married to someone else.

Mitu: Acha thik hai Dadi mai rakhti hu ha? Mere dost mujhe bula rahe hai. Bye, love you.

Dadi: Ha ha.

Saying that,she hung up and turned around to go back to the others, when she saw Adi standing behind her, clearly not in a good mood.

Mitali: What are you doing here?

Adi: Why? I can't? So you'll decide where I should and shouldn't be?

Mitali: Adi, you are being weird. What's going on?

Adi: Oh you tell me! I don't know, maybe the fact that your Dadi has already fixed your alliance with someone else and you are actually considering getting married to them?!

Mitali was definitely taken aback by that.

Mitali: Were you eavesdropping on me?

Adi: I was not standing a mile away from you. It's not my fault I overheard!

Mitali: Wow! How convenient!

Adi: Don't avoid the topic, Mitali. When were you going to tell me about your this? On your wedding day?

Mitali: What?! Adi, I'm not getting married to anyone!  I....

Adi: Oh save it! I heard everything, Mitali. That Rishabh guy , who had a crush on you is now in Dehradun and you just agreed to go and meet him!

Mitali: Adi no.....

Adi: It's true. Once this wedding's over, you'll go back to Dehradun, you'll meet him, you'll see how charming he is, not to mention he is an engineer, and then boom! I'll be getting a wedding card from you!

Mitali: Adi! Shut up! You're really impossible to deal with, you know! You deciphered everything by a single call?! Could you be any insensible?!

Adi: Of course! Now you would think that I'm insensible! What am I, right Mitali?! Nothing compared to your Engineer lover!

Mitali: Adi! You don't even know Rishabh!

Adi: Oh I'm sorry, did I offend you by talking about your admirer?

Mitali: Adi, you are crossing your limits.

Adi: No, I'm not! And you know that! Mitali, you yourself admitted that he had a crush on you when you guys were younger.

Mitali: That was 8 years ago!

Adi: What if he still has feelings for you? What if once you go there , his unresolved feelings come back?! Worst case scenario, what if YOU fall for him?!

Mitali: Adi! Enough!

Adi opened his mouth to respond but nothing came out of it.

Mitali: What do you think of yourself? Who do you think you are to judge the crap out of other people?!

Adi: I.......

Mitali: Shut up! Now I'll speak and you will listen!

Adi folded his arms in front of his chest and pursed his lips.

Mitali: How hypocrite are you, Adi?! Out of all the people, you should be the last person to judge me! And that too based on hear- say! I tried so hard not to say anything to you but you seemed to be having a little difficulty with that so here it is. You wanted to hear the truth,right? So here you go: Yes, I will be going to Dehradun after the wedding , not to get married to someone, but to visit my Dadi, whom I've not seen for a year.

Adi swallowingly looked down.

Mitali: But why would you care? You're too busy canoodling Lady Muck, so much that you don't have a clue about the people around you. I don't really understand your logic here , Adi. So it's okay for you to flirt and get all mushy with someone, but it's not okay when it comes to me?

Adi: That's different. I'm not planning on marrying Trisha unlike you!

Mitali: Who said that I was going to marry Rishabh? Did you hear me say it?!

Adi: But you're going to Dehradun.....

Mitali: And that indirectly indicates that I'm going to marry him?! Adi, I don't even know what he looks like now. He probably is long over me now and doesn't even remember me for that sake! And you just assumed that I........

She stifled a sob and looked at Adi with glistening eyes. Adi sighed realising his mistake.

Adi: But what if you go to Dehradun and you fall for him..... and....

Mitali:(sobbing) Adi! Don't you trust me ?! Do you really think I could just move on and fall for someone else?!

Adi:  I didn't mean it like.......

Mitali: No, you meant it exactly like that! I'm sorry Adi, but I'm not like you.

Adi: What does that mean?

Mitali: I think we both know what it means.

There was an uncomfortable silence following that. Mitali quickly wiped her tears sensing guests around and said,

Mitali: I think we should just take a break.

Adi: You're right. Let's just take a break, let's get something to eat or something.

Saying that, he held her hand and was about to go the buffet, when he felt Mitali free her hand from his grip. He turned and looked at her questioningly.

Mitali: No..........a break.... from.......us.

Adi froze in his spot. He looked at her again, desperately wanting her to grin and say that she was just kidding. But Mitali remained silent.

After what felt like an eternity, Adi turned around and walked away from Mitali, leaving her in a daze.

All's not well!

Hey guys, so here's an update! I know I promised some of you that I'll include a dhasu sidneet scene in this chapter but since I crossed my usual word limit so I thought of skipping it. But the next chapter is going to be lit (especially for the sidneet fans) so be ready!!!
