Adi crossed his arms in front of his chest. Mitali gulped and said,

Mitali: Adi, tell Ruhaan to open the door, please.

Adi: You heard him. He is not going to open the door until you tell me what's going on.

Mitali: I don't know what you are talking about.

Adi:(angrily) You KNOW exactly what I'm talking about! Stop acting so indifferent!

Mitali shuddered but tried to speak with a firm tone,

Mitali: I'm not acting indifferent.

Adi: Yes, you are. Now tell me the reason behind all this.

Mitali: Behind what Adi? What are you trying to say?

Adi: Mitali, why are you doing this?

Mitali: I already told you. You didn't do anything. Let me go, please.

Adi grabbed her shoulder and spoke,

Adi: Mitali, I swear to God I'll loose my mind if you don't tell me the truth now.

Mitali: Adi! Let go off me, NOW!

Adi: Just tell me the reason!

Mitali: Adi! You're hurting me!

Adi immediately realized what he was doing and backed off. Mitali breathed heavily.

Adi:(looking helplessly at her) I just want to know what is wrong. What have I done? I can't stand the fact that you are not talking to me! Please tell me what is it. Is it something I did?

Mitali:(teary eyed) I.......I.....

Adi: What? What Mitali?! Tell me what crime have I committed?

Mitali gathered up all her courage and strength and said,

Mitali: Why do you care?

Adi looked at her with surprise,

Adi: Huh?

Mitali: Why do you care? Whether or not I talk to you? How does it matter?

Adi : Because You are my FRIEND God damnit!! Are you seriously asking that question?

Mitali: Well, so are Shayantani and Ananya, right? You don't care whether they talk to you or not.

Adi: Yeah, but that's different!

Mitali: How? How am I any different?

Adi: Mitali!

Mitali: Am I saying anything wrong? I am as much of your friend as they are,right? Then it shouldn't matter, should it?

Adi: No! It DOES matter!

Mitali: Why?

Adi: Because I......

Mitali: You don't have an answer ,do you?

Adi kept mum as she proceeded further,

Mitali: You really want to know why I stopped talking to you?

Adi looked at her.

Mitali: My Mom once told me that if people are not bothered about my absence,then my presence probably never mattered to them.

Adi: How has that got to do with any of this?

Mitali: Two days back......... I came to meet you in the canteen........ and I saw you with this girl. You guys were laughing....... giggling...... having the time of your lives...... and that's when I realized...... how wrong was I to even think that I was special......or something like that for you........I realized that I was just....... another girl....in your life.........I didn't matter...... just like any other girl in college......And that hurt me, Adi...... That really hurt me because.......I..... thought I was different from the other girls....that...I mattered more...... I was wrong....

Adi closed his eyes in anticipation and took a deep breath and said,

Adi: Mitali......that girl......was no one, okay? We were doing all that so that she could make her boyfriend jealous. That's all ,trust me.

Mitali: Even if she was........does it matter? I mean, you flirt with every other girl in college....... How am I any different than the rest?

Adi: You are my frien......

Mitali  broke down,

Mitali: Apart from that, Adi......Am I nothing more than a friend to you?

Adi's eyes glistened. So did Mitali's. They both looked at each other helplessly.

Oh! How much Adi wished to tell her how much he loved her! Her smile! Her laugh! Her face! Her everything!

Mitali's disappointed look made him more miserable. She sighed and looked down.

A tear rolled down her face.

Mitali turned to go out, when ,finally, Adi spoke up,

Adi: You are everything to me , Mitali.

Mitali didn't turn but stayed still.

Adi: You mean everything to me . Look, I am not that good with words but all I can say is that.....I can't..... imagine my life without you........ It's you, your smile,.......your laugh...... everything which makes my day better. A little while ago you asked me how you were any different than Ananya or Shanu, or any other girl.........yes, yes you are different....... because you are special....... because you hold a very special place in my heart and nobody......... nobody can ever take that place.......I....

Mitali smiled a bit as more tears rolled down her face. She was right. Her Adi could never ever hurt anyone's feelings. She felt bad for misjudging the whole situation.

Adi: Never.....ever..... question your existence in my life......... You are and will always be the one and only.....in my life. You matter the most....... because....I.........

Adi stopped talking. Mitali slowly turned towards him, her eyes red from all the crying.

Mitali:  Do you really mean all of that?

Adi: Look into my eyes. I think you'll get the answer.

His eyes reflected honesty. She felt really bad for misjudging the whole thing. And for misunderstanding him.

Mitali: I'm sorry, Adi.

Adi: (like a sad child) You should be.

She took slow and gradual steps towards him. She cupped his cheeks and said,

Mitali: I really am. I promise to never misunderstand you and ignore you ever again.

Adi: Pakka promise?

Mitali:(slightly pinching her throat) Pakka promise.

Adi finally smiled.

Adi: BTW, do you think my speech could make it to the Oscars?

Mitali laughed slightly and nodded.

Adi: So you will talk to me hence forth?

Mitali raised a brow and said,

Mitali: Hence? When did you learn that word?

Adi made a poker face. They both suddenly burst into fits of laughter.

Adi: Chalo ab Bahar chalte hai Varna Ruhaan curiosity se hi mar jayega!

Mitali smiled and nodded. Adi stepped forward to tell Ruhaan to open the door when suddenly Mitali said,

Mitali: Adi...

Adi turned and looked at her.

Mitali: You are and will always be my one and only too....

Adi smiled and slipped his hand in hers. Their fingers intertwined.

So did their hearts.....

I love you's are too boring and cliche'd , aren't they?

Hey guys,so, here's another update! I know I know that some of you (all of you) expected this pair to finally get together. But then I realized that it didn't have to be that way.....I mean..... not every reconciliation has to end with those three golden words , do they?
