Ruhaan sat in the cafeteria, waiting for his friends to arrive. He smiled as he spotted Tapasya coming towards him. She sat next to him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek.

Taps: So how's my favorite person doing today?

Ruhaan: I'm doing more than fine. Thanks to my lovely girlfriend 😘

Taps: Aw! But seriously I know there's no point in asking you but how did your test go today?

Ruhaan: It went fine, I guess. How was yours?

Taps: Eh! When have I ever done good on a test? It was fine.

Ruhaan smiled slightly and said,

Ruhaan: You're so cute!

Tapasya placed her hand on his and said,

Taps: Sangat ka asar , you know!

Ruhaan was about to say something when he was suddenly interrupted by a coughing sound. He found his friends standing in front of the table and giggling. Tapasya quickly let go of his hand.

Shanu: Arey don't mind us guys! You can continue if you want 😉

Daksh: Ha ha hum kahi aur baith jayenge!

Ruhaan: Ho Gaya tum logo ka? Ab baitho!

They giggled and sat down. Ruhaan noticed that Adi was missing, so he asked,

Ruhaan: Arey yeh Adi kaha reh Gaya?

Mitali stiffened at the mention of his name. She fidgeted with her hands.

Ruhaan: Mitali ,tum dono to ek hi class mein baithe the na? Tum usse mili nahi Kya?

Mitali fumbled with words.

Mitali: Uh.....um...no.....not Really.....

Before she could finish, Ruhaan spotted Adi approaching their table.

Ruhaan: Lo Adi bhi aa Gaya!

Mitali could feel Adi's gaze on her as he sat down next to Tapasya. He tried to meet her eyes but she just turned her gaze away.

Anu: So guys, exam kaisa Gaya?

Shanu: Thik thak hi tha! But mujhe MCQ's mein thodi confusion ho rahi this.

Daksh: Same yaar! Saare options to ek jaise lag rahe the!

The rest giggled except for Mitali. Adi looked at her with concern.

Sahil: Anyways,abhi to sirf ek exam khatam hua hai! Abhi to aur baki hai!

Daksh: Yaar Sahil yaad mat dila!

Ruhaan: To aaj mere ghar pe mil rahe hai na hum log?

The rest agreed except for Mitali. Ruhaan immediately asked,

Ruhaan: Arey Mitali! Tujhe Kya hua? Aaj itni chup chap kyu hai? Tu aa rahi hai na aaj mere ghar pe?

Adi looked at her again and this time Mitali's eyes too met his. There was pain in them. He could say. She quickly shifted her gaze to Ruhaan.

Mitali: Um....nahi yaar. Aaj shayad nahi ho payega. I'm not feeling that well and I think I'd rather rest.

Adi knew she was lying. She was trying to get away from him and trying to find ways not to face him.

Shanu: Mitu, tu thik hai na? Yeh achanak tabiyat kaise kharab ho gayi?

Anu: Uss din Ruhaan ke ghar pe baarish mein bheegi thi na? Shayad usi liye!

Shanu: Kya Mitu? Dhyan rakhna chahiye na!

Mitali smiled slightly.

Ruhaan: To thik hai. Ek kaam kar tu rest kar aaj. Baaki sab to aa rahe ho na?

Anu: Nahi yaar. Mai Mitu k sath hi rahungi. Agar use kuch zaroorat Hui to?

Mitu: Meri itni bhi tabiyat kharab nahi hai yaar. I'll be fine. You should go, Anu. Mai khayal rakh lungi apna.

Anu: Pakka?

Mitali: Ha baba! Tu ja! I'll be fine.

Anu: Acha thik hai. Lekin agar kuch bhi zaroorat ho , immediate call karna alright?

Mitali nodded and then looked at Adi. His gaze was still on her. She immediately glanced at her food.

Adi , however, stood puzzled by this behavior of Mitali's. He couldn't figure out why she was behaving this way all of a sudden. And the worst part was she wasn't even talking to him. He longed to see that bright sunshiny smile of hers.

Oh! How he terribly missed that smile!

He decided not to sit still until he figured out what was going on. And for that, he needed his best pal's help.

After everyone was done with their lunch, they all headed to their respective classes. Adi signalled Ruhaan to stay a little longer.

After the others had left,

Ruhaan: What's going on?

Adi: Honestly I don't have any idea. It's like all of a sudden, she has started behaving so oddly like I had committed some great crime or something! And the worst part is that she won't even tell me what that crime is!

It took Ruhaan a minute or two to register what he had just blabbered.

Ruhaan: Tune abhi abhi jo kuch bhi kaha mujhe kuch bhi samajh nahi aaya? Kya hua hai?

Adi: It's Mitali yaar. She's driving me nuts!

Ruhaan: What?

Adi: She's acting really weird since yesterday. I don't know what's up with her!

Ruhaan: She seemed fine to me but a little upset though.

Adi: Exactly! When have you ever seen her upset? She's always either laughing or smirking!

Ruhaan: Maybe she's just stressed out about the tests.

Adi: No, she isn't. Come on Ruhaan! Mitali came here on scholarship. She is brilliant in studies. Why would she worry about some test?

Ruhaan: Yeah but that doesn't....

Adi: Anyways it's not just that. I was kinda annoyed with her behavior so I confronted her after the test.

Ruhaan: But she said that she didn't see you after the test.

Adi: She said that?

Ruhaan: Yeah, I asked her why you didn't come with her to the canteen, as you guys usually do, and she said that she didn't see you after the test was over.

Adi: Dude, I'm telling you. Something's wrong with her. She never lies.

Ruhaan: Maybe. Hey, when you confronted her, what did she say?

Adi: She didn't. She just defended herself saying that she didn't know what I was talking about and then suddenly stormed off without a word.

Ruhaan looked at him with a confusing look on his face .

Adi: And I know that the only reason why she wouldn't come to your house today is because she wants to avoid me.

Ruhaan: You mean she's faking her sickness?

Adi nodded.

Ruhaan: God! This is very confusing!

Adi: Tell me about it!

Ruhaan thought for a while and then said,

Ruhaan: Don't worry okay? I'll talk to her. We'll figure this out , don't worry!

Adi: That's why I only told you. I know you can do it!

Ruhaan: Yeah, but there's a problem.

Adi: What?

Ruhaan:  She's bent upon not coming to my place today. If I have to talk to her, it has to be today. Because of all these tests, I don't think we'll be able to meet much in here. We need to bring her to my place tonight.

Adi sank back on his seat, exhausted.

Ruhaan's face suddenly brightened up as a wonderful idea struck his mind.

Ruhaan: I've got an idea! Don't worry dude. She'll be at my house tonight.

Adi sat back up and said,

Adi: What's the idea?

Ruhaan: That's a secret. But you don't have to worry anymore.

Adi gave it a thought and said,

Adi: Whatever dude. Just bring back the old Mitali! And the same old smile of hers!

Ruhaan smiled at the thought of his two friends in love.

It was going to be worth it and he was sure to make it happen!
