An uncomfortable and awkward silence prevailed in the Uber. Neither one of them spoke.It was surely a little weird. But at last, Sahil decided to come out with it.

Sahil: Hey, Shanu, can I ask you a question?

Shayantani's eyes widened as she turned towards Sahil.

Sahil: Can I?

Shanu: Huh.......ha,.....ha....sure.

Sahil: We know each other since the past 11 years........and you never once mentioned that.......you had a crush on me? 

Shayantani opened her mouth but  nothing came out of it.She mentally cursed Mitali for sending her with Sahil!

Sahil: :(snapping his fingers in front of Shanu) Shanu? Kaha kho gayi?

Shanu: Huh......kahi nahi to. Mai to yahi hu.

Sahil: Tumne mere question ka answer nahi diya.

Shanu: Sahil.......school mein mai......tumhe isiliye nahi bol payi kyunki......mai darti thi.......rejection se. Aur bad mein........jab hum friends.....ban gaye......to mujhe laga ki agar maine tumhe bata diya....to awkward ho jayega and all..........

Sahil: Tumhe sach mein lagta tha ki mai tumhe reject kar dunga?

Shanu: Ha. Kyu?

Sahil: Shayantani, school mein...tum....Miss Popular hua karti thi! Tumhare aas pas itne friends rehte the. Sab tumse dosti karne ke liye pagal the. Aur mai..........ek kone mein......akela baitha rehta tha. Sab ko lagta tha ki mai ajeeb hu. Kyunki mai tumhari tarah extrovert nahi tha. Being an introvert was considered a disease.

Shanu: Shotti?

Sahil: Huh?

Shanu: Um...I mean, sach mein?

Sahil: Ha.....Mai to yeh sochta tha ki tum itne friends bana kaise leti ho? Mujhse to ek bhi nahi bante the!

Shayantani chuckled and looked at Sahil.

Sahil: Acha....ek aur question.

Shanu: Pucho.

Sahil: Jab Mitali ne kaha ki Never has she ever  been in love......Tumne sip kyu liya?

Shayantani was cleaned bowled. She had no answer for that one.

"Hottochhari ta! Kothae fashiye chole gelo amake! Eibar ki kori? Hey! Durga Thakur, kichu rasta dekhao amake! Please!", she thought.

Sahil: Shayantani?

Shanu: Voh...to maine...bas aise hi....

Sahil: Jhoot bol rahi hai na tu?

Shanu: Um....arey! sach mein!

Sahil: Tu aise nahi manegi. Ruk.(Turning to the Uber Driver) Bhaisab, cab rokiye.

Shanu: Arey! Sahil!

Driver: Kyu? Kya hua?

Sahil: Bas rokiye. Hum yahi utar jayenge.

Driver: Sir, are you sure?

Sahil: Yes, I'm sure. Aap gari rokiye.

The driver stopped the car. Sahil paid him and they both got out of the cab.Once the cab was out of sight,

Shanu: Sahil......

Sahil put his finger on her lips, indicating her to be quiet. A chill went down her spine but she still kept quiet. Sahil looked up at the sky.

It was black and silver.Thuds of thunder was all they could hear.Breeze coming from wet soil enhanced the freshness, paired up with the cold drops. It was already dark  and the only lights were of the office premises, peeking from the glass walls, tiny lamps in the  garden area and the quick thunder flash, occasionally brightening up the sky.

Sahil: Can you smell that?

Shanu: Smell what?

Sahil:(excitedly) The rain!

A gentle small rain drop came down all the way from the skies to kiss her cheeks.The drizzle started  and covered Shanu with tiny, beautiful ornaments making her look even more beautiful. 

Shanu: Of course! Brishti tao ar shomoy pelo na!

Sahil: Ek sec, ek sec! Tum yeh bengali mein kya bak gayi abhi abhi?!

Shanu: Arey! Mai bol rahi thi ki iss baarish ko bhi abhi aana tha!

Sahil: To kya hua?

Shanu: Arey! Kya to kya hua? Hum bheeg jayenge Sahil! Bukhar ho jayega!

Sahil: Tu to bilkul spoil sport hai! Chal na bheegte hai1

Shanu: Hum abhi bheeg hi rahe hai, Sahil!

Sahil: Ha to bheegte hai na!

Shanu: Sahil, ek week mein fest hai. Abhi bukhar ho gaya na, to Tapasya mar dalegi!

Sahil: Voh sab ki tension chor! Aur iss baarish ko enjoy kar!

Shanu: Sahil...

Sahil:(making a puppy face) Please!

Shanu: Acha baba! Tujhse koi nahi jeet sakta!

Sahil: Yeh hui na baat!

Shanu: Par jyada der nahi! Varna pneumonia ho jayega!

Sahil: Voh sab chor....aur mere question ka answer de!

Shanu: Konsa question?

Sahil took slow steps towards her and pulling her close by her arm, said,

Sahil: Tujhe pata hai konsa question......

Shayantani was unable to speak. He was standing very close to her. She could fell his breath. Everything stopped for that very moment. There were many people around them, who were staring at them. But they were lost in each other, unaware of their surroundings.

Shanu: Uh....

Sahil removed the strand of her hair which was lingering on her face and said,

Sahil: Kya Shanu?

Shanu: Voh....mai......kisi......se pyaar karti hu.

Sahil: Accha......aur uska.....naam.....?

Shayantani looked at him. She found herself melting in his arms. And she finally decided to come out with it,

Shanu: Sahil Maheshwari.

Sahil smiled widely and pulled her closer.

Sahil: Yeh naam to kahi suna suna lagta hai!

Shayantani chuckled slightly. Tears were evident in her eyes.Sahil wiped them and,

Sahil: Iss chehre par sirf hasee achi lagti hai, aasu nahi....

Shayantani smiled and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back.

The music came from a nearby stall. Sahil smiled and extended his hand towards Shayantani which happily accepted. They slow danced in the incessant rain.

The music faded off as  they completely lost track of time and their surroundings........
