"You think I know this because I read your diary Josh?? I know it because I was there when it happened dear.. Your mind has suppressed that painful memory and you don't remember what exactly happened but your subconscious does and it keep replaying it for you to know that it happened" he said

By the time he finished my head started spinning and I felt like my mind will explode and all I remember is black.

Flashes of Past

I was sleeping and then I felt I was in a garden. I wore black clothes. I was plucking flowers. I found I was not alone there were three other females who were doing the same.

"Hey Aria.. don't you think it is enough now. I guess we should head to the palace".

"Sure Lisa we should" I replied.

We entered the palace and there was stern looking lady who was glaring at us "You petty slaves didn't I ask you come soon. It's prince return after 5 years. There is lot of work that needs to be done.

"Cook we gathered flowers as soon as we can" the second female replied.

"Amela... I don't want excuses.. Now haste lest we will be late for Welcome ceremony. Go and help the decorations now". Cook scolded.

I was about to go direction where other girls followed.

"Aria.. I need your help in making the dishes all these other girl are good for nothing".

I nodded and helped her make roasted lamb,cod with oyster sauce , and we also prepared a buffet of hot and cold meat,and for desserts there was cold baked tarts, custards, and spices, sugared delicacies and wafers!". After all was done.

"Cook can I make some muffins" I asked her not looking in her eyes.

"Aria... Don't you think we have made enough desserts and we have spend more than half of our day here. Don't you think you are tired now" She said.

"No cook I am not tired I just wanted to use the leftover we have here. That's it" I replied her looking once at her and then again bringing my eyes down.

"I know Aria dear.. didn't your friend Lisa likes them" She said "I would have said no to her but since you helped me cook I will allow you go ahead and use whatever is leftover".

"Thank you cook" I said and started making my special dish.

As I was done with the cooking and I was about to come out of Kitchen when I heard the crackers and loud music of Prince's arrival.

I ran and started lighting the smelling wax and soon the fragrance spread across the Palace walls. I was happy that now that our Job is done me and my friends can leave.

"Hey girl cook is asking for a slave. Go to kitchen" A guard shouted.

I made my way to kitchen through the slave passage when suddenly someone pulled me in and muffled my mouth with their hand.

I panicked and was struggling and when I looked at the face my breath hitched but calmed myself so I could try to make him leave me.

"Oh Aria...It's just me your Eden" he said smiling. Chill ran down my spine seeing him and more me alone with him.

"Please let me go sir...I am needed in the kitchen else I would be whipped if I am late" I said in begging voice.

"Oh my Aria.. I know you are a slave but dear I know cook would never do that you. Don't you think ?" He said.

I was struggling in his hold. He jerked me and said "Just one Kiss Aria and I will let you go till we meet again". I was disgusted with him touching me. He had cupped my face and was staring in my eyes. I could feel him getting ready to kiss me.

"No please let go " I was crying now but he didn't care he was closing the distance between us. I felt so hopeless. I was limp in his arm. I gave up and I was not struggling like I accepted my fate to get used by him.

"Leave the lady right now before I behead you.. you dirty Dog" A voice said stopping Eden from further movement. I felt him releasing me from his hold.

I immediately opened my eyes to find a masked person holding sword at Eden. My eyes widened thinking this person having  death wish. He raised weapon on Eden the General of our Kingdom. Eden was the new General who was considered best swordsman in the whole empire and everybody felt afraid to even raise their eyes at him and yet the person in front of me was confident and didn't even shook when General turned towards him.

The person laughed at General obviously seeing his angry expression but in all this commotion all I could thought of one thing to run.. run away from this because I don't know about this person and I don't want to be here in Eden's presence once he's done with this person. I don't want to witness yet another bloodshed and I do not want to face his wrath. I was about to make a move to run away when I heard " Don't even think about it Ria.... I warn you .... if you even make a move out of this room I will make sure you are punished...."

I stopped and was fidgeting with my fingers on this unexpected demand from the General Eden. My breathing was heavy because I knew it better what punishment he was talking about.

The person who saved me just now chuckled and spoke "You think you can outdo me General. You think when I have sword around your neck and your life is about to end and yet to care to threaten a lady" You amuse me.

"You don't know what you are doing filth" Eden retorted.

"Oh.. I do know what I am doing bastard" He said looking at Eden " Woman make a move from here if you don't want to see his blood".

I was shocked at stranger's word. I was hesitating when he said "Woman if you want to see his blood then I promise to give you a great show".

But when he saw my horrified expression he chuckled  and said "Seems like you are soft even though this bastard deserves pain. Go ahead and run then since I am in control here" He said and I took this as my chance to run away to servant quarters.

I closed my door shaking and then leaned on it for support and slowly falling down on my knees. I cried and my control unleashed and a flood of tears ran out of my eyes. I remembered how I came here.

My Past- Aria

I was born into a rich merchant Josh Connors' home in Dorton Village. I had loving parents and I loved them and we were very happy. Our village was in the border of this Fallden Empire. But one day we had a visit from the General Christopher Nobili and he came to our house asking for help and to get roof and food for his family. 

My father welcomed him with open arms and made all the arrangements for him to make his stay comfortable but little did he knew that this snake would bite him and destroy everything he holds dear. In the night we were woken up hearing a great noise and my father ran outside with his sword to know who was responsible for uproar outside. Me and my mother went to the balcony to see what was going on and we were shocked to see the houses around us were in fire. The men dressed as soldiers were killing inhumanly and there were dead bodies all around. My mother realizing the situation made her way to the secret way out of our house. I knew it because I used to use it to go to my friends when my parents didn't allow me to play outside.

But when she heard the noise of shoes in our direction she bent down my level and said "Run my baby to the secret den and go out of here. We are in danger and if we escape this disaster I will come and collect you" Even though I denied she pushed me by making me promise on her head. She kissed me and that was the last time I felt the love of my beautiful mother. When I reached the other end I hid behind a tree and waited for my mother but she didn't came I hid among the bushes waiting for 2 days starving and surviving on the dew water when thirsty. I was afraid if I moved out the soldiers will catch me and I will never meet my parents.

I could not hold any longer now. I had seen soldiers camping near my hidden place and they were eating and drinking. I licked my dry lips. The soldiers were drunk so I mustered my courage to go out and I stole for the first time and the thing I stole was a stale bread which they had pushed aside.  They did not realize that the bread was gone thinking one of their dog might have eaten. I went back to my hiding.

I slept and woke up when I heard the same voice of General which had begged my father for shelter and food. I looked through bushes and found him on a horse and asking "Did you find her?"

I was wondering about who he is searching. When soldiers shook their head in denial he left. I hid in my secret place and waited till it will be night. I crawled like a reptile and slowly made my way to the soldiers tent to take a small piece of bread to survive till I reunite with my mother. 

I was careful but yet not how much I thought I was because as soon as I placed my little hand on the piece of bread. My hand was caught by a man "You little thief... you bitch you are trying to steal my food. I will punish you".  Saying that he found his leather belt and started beating me like an animal and soon with my cries and noise whole group of soldiers surrounded us. I kept begging him for mercy, I was just a little girl of 11 years and he was a grown up man he was hitting my back with all his might.  My vision was going black when I heard the familiar voice and I knew it was his voice-- General Christopher Nobili

The very man who made me homeless and poor and begging for food. When he saw me he slapped the soldier and asked others to capture him and imprison him. He lift me slowly and took me to his tent and in the morning when I woke up I saw my mother was in a prison and I was lying on a comfortable bed. Her eyes were full of tear after seeing my state. I made a move to reach my mother but alas I was chained.

"Finally you both have woken up..... Lilly love how are you doing...." The familiar voice of General Christopher said with sinister smile.

"Please leave her Christopher.. you want to take your revenge with me. Let her out of this. Please let her go.. " My mother begged with tear in her eyes.

"No.. my love... you agree to my terms and I will give anything you desire" He said.

"No... I can't " She answered "I promised him I will never let anyone touch me... I will not"

"You know he is dead and yet you want to keep promise to a dead man. You do know I will have you one way or other then why deny the obvious.... love... do it willingly and I will make you the happiest woman of the world. Just agree ... say yes..." He said with emotion.

"You can't make me do that Chris... you know I would never agree to be with you.. I loved him not only my heart but my soul. You know what...after this I am not going to trust you. If you think by imprisoning me and keeping my daughter you will have me. Then the answer is no.... never..." my mother said and what happened after that I could not grasp. She used her right hands ring and licked on it and smiled at him. "You will never have me Chris...never... I know after I am no more you won't be able to have me... so goodbye Chris"

"You cannot escape like this Lily.." He yelled in anger and opened the prison door "Lilian... you betrayed me... you left me for another man for love... yet when I showed my love to you... you chose to die... Remember this love...If I can't have you then I will have someone who is dear to you.... " My mother's eyes widen at that and she shook her head in denial "No.." She shrieked "She is just a little girl Chris.... and by hurting her you will not get anything...." She said.

"I know she is little girl now dear Lily... but after 7 years she won't be.. you know what Lily you are my only love...  but I will make sure to show my passion to this little girl you have here... I will make love to her everyday once she is of age...You thought you could escape me Lily... I will make sure even in death you are haunted... haunted with the thoughts... what I will do to your daughter... Lily I will be the one to turn her from a girl to a woman and remember this I will not make the mistake of trusting her like I did with you" He said pointing his fingers at me while my mother eyes were petrified but nothing could be done now. 

She wanted to say something but nothing could be done now, nothing could save her, nothing could undo what she did... she wanted to save me...but there was no time... and she breath her last in front of my eyes. I saw General Chris making his way towards me and then he pulled me to him and whispered in my ears "You know you belong to me girl..." I nodded crying, I was helpless. His voice which was deadly calm was sending chill down my spine.

"Who do you belong little girl" He asked now pulling me to look in my eyes.

" I...me....." I stuttered while shaking in fear. This man was looking like a devil incarnation at that time with his dark eyes were staring at me, piercing me.

"I asked you a question girl?" He asked harshly.

 "You...." I answered.

"Right and you will call me Master now onwards" He said.

I nodded since I felt incapable of uttering anything out of fear, fear of what he will do to me.

"Words love... I didn't hear you" He looked at me with his piercing look.

"Yes..." I said 

"Yes what??" He yelled shaking my shoulders

"Master" I replied.

"That's right" he said and then he yelled for maids "Make sure she is presentable and once done let me know .

Then he called for soldiers and asked them to remove my mother's body and I couldn't do anything since I was held back by maids. My mother's body was taken in a stretcher. He followed them. I don't know even today what he did with my mother's dead body.

I was bathed and dressed in black clothes and once done I was left alone and I sat on the bed when the curtain of the tent flipped open.

"You look clean..." he said looking at me.

He removed his armour and place all his weapons and freshened himself in the basin. He came near me on the bed and I was fidgeting when he pushed me from the bed on the floor.

"Sleep there my love... that place befits you... you should know the harshness of life unlike your mother to value my efforts... and my love..." he barked and slept on his comfortable bed.

I tried my best to get some sleep but the ground was cold since the climate has changed since my capture and I didn't had any bed sheet to keep me warm. It was chilly night and I tried to sleep but I didn't know soon I was shivering and my teeth cluttering. I opened my eyes in shock  when a cold water hit my face only to have him looking at me  with annoyance.

"You stupid girl dare you try disturb my rest... I will make sure you are punished for all your faults... so you remember my kindness unlike your ungrateful mother" Saying that he dragged me and threw me out of his tent. He zipped the curtains after throwing me out.

There was no fire to keep myself warm and weather was turning deadly cold.I tried to ask for Mercy but nothing came out of my throat.  I don't know when I lost my conscious after my nose started bleeding.

By the time I woke up again it was sunny and I found myself in a cage on a dirty rug and their was a maid who was changing the cold cloth on my forehead. I tried to ask for water but when nothing came out. She looked at me and gave me glass of water and as soon as the water hit my throat it hurt my parched throat. I whimpered in pain and tears rolled out of my eyes, when all the memories hit me back.

"Shhhh... darling everything will be alright. I brought hot lamb soup for you" She said and brought a spoon of soup near my mouth despite my reluctance she fed me, changed me everyday and on the third day my fever broke and but she kept feeding me and taking care of me.

"Thank you Maria... but I want to ask you why are you still feeding me and keeping me on bed as if I am sick" I asked her.

"You dear are like my grand daughter and I don't want that cruel man to mistreat you" She replied with love.

"But you cannot avoid it for long Maria" I told her.

"You know I can delay it as much as I can" She replied.

I smiled at her but my smile faltered when I saw curtain of the tent flip and the General entered. I immediately closed my eyes pretending to be asleep.

"Maria.. how is she.." He asked.

"She is recovering my lord... but she is very weak" She replied.

"You are saying she is weak from past 2 weeks Maria... why is it that she is not recovering how others do" He asked frustrated.

"My lord this little girl was starving for a week before you found her and after that she was out in the cold she got deadly fever which has taken away all her energy and for her to be restored back to health she would need at least a month" She said.

"Is her life in ... danger... Maria... will she really recover in month" He asked bit tensed.

"No my lord her life is not in danger at the moment but if she goes out in cold and work may be then" She was cut off by him 

"Make sure she takes enough rest and but tomorrow we have to travel so make sure you are with her in her chariot all the time. I don't want to lose her" He said and left.

As soon as he left I released the breathe I didn't even know I was holding.

"This is weird... The beast cares for you" She said.

"He doesn't care for me Maria.. he wants me to be alive so he can take his revenge" I stated.

"Right.. I forgot my child" Maria said sadly.

Next morning we made our journey to the palace and I was given a room near his chamber and after a month he came to my room. At that time I was brushing my hair and Maria and me were laughing at one of her child memory she shared.

"Looks like you have survived" He said.

My smile faltered and I got up from the bed and bowed my head in front of me. 

He asked Maria to leave. When I was alone with him he came near me and lift my chin and said "You are beautiful when you smile..." He said.

I kept my eyes on ground looking anywhere"Look in to my eyes".

When I didn't he said sternly "Don't make me repeat girl, look into my eyes... " 

My eyes immediately lift up to his face  and then he stared at me  and asked"What is your name?" and I felt care in his eyes and so I replied "Jocelyn..."  

"Did you say Jocelyn?" He said getting angry and then he said "You will not call yourself after that filthy man... did you hear me?" He said holding my chin tightly.

"But..." I tried to say it was my name.

"You are Aria... and henceforth will be called so" He yelled

I shook with fear and he repeated "Did I make this clear?" I nodded but after seeing his angry eyes I added "Yes Master".

He smiled suddenly and caressed my hair sniffed them and left. That was the last time I was called Jocelyn and that was the day I lost my identity and my connection with Lilian and Josh Connors.

As the time passed I came to be known as Aria the slave. I came to know that General Christopher got married shortly when my mother eloped with my father. She didn't know Christopher will become general this soon, for he was a normal soldier but he showed his bravery in the battle field and soon the General Nicholas Fulghum noticed him. He was happy with Christopher and when he saw he would be retiring he offered Christopher to marry his daughter. Christopher had obsession over my mother but when he got opportunity to marry General's daughter named Jacquelin Fulghum  he didn't let it slide. He tried to go forth for revenge but his wife made sure he kept away from that mission, for of course she was the daughter of  a General. Even though General retired he was still influential. When she died after 5 years which left General got the right opportunity to seek my mother. He wanted to have her as his prized possession. 

I heard that even though General didn't treat his wife right Jacquelin was in love with him. She was the only one who kept him under control for 5 years but her death unleashed the beast in General and he even sent his son Eden away and he started seeking revenge and his search ended in destruction of my village and death of my parents. My father was not aware that the General is the same man whom my mother was engaged. My mother didn't see him to know that her nightmare was right under the same roof as her. Ofcourse it led to my family being dead, me being orphan and a slave.

Time passed me being slave and striving to live and fit in the life of slave. I had become accustomed now as a slave in the last 7 years and let me tell you these 7 years were the most cruel years of my life. I sometime felt like killing myself but he would save me time and again. I understood there was no escape from this hell hole.

After 13 years his son came back and it was rumoured he would take his place. In my own way I was scared of even him, I didn't know how he would treat me once he knew about his father 's fascination with a slave girl with whom he is hellbent on marrying ... how will he react. I have heard about his temper and I didn't want to be on the receiving side. I was so lost in my thoughts one day, while I was watering the plants one day when I felt a presence near me. For a moment I thought it was general Christopher but I relaxed when I saw it was not him but I did not let my guard down 

"What is your name?" He asked 

"Aria my lord" I said looking at the ground.

"Aria... " He said "nice name..."

Ofcourse he would say that this was the name given to me by his father.

"My name is Eden Ria..." He said smiling and I looked at him shocked when he said that.

"Master... you don't need to tell me your name" I said still looking at the ground.

"Call me Eden... love" He said lifting my chin up.

I slapped his hands and ran  like there is no tomorrow. I heard him shouting my name but I didn't stop. I didn't see where I was running when I hit a wall. I would have fell back because of the impact when I felt two strong arms catching me.

I looked up only to realize I was in the arms of General Christopher. I panicked and closed my eyes waiting for the impact of his hands on my face. I had underwent his abuse whenever he would get angry.

" Why so fast my love.... I didn't knew you were in such a hurry to meet me" He said smiling.

Yes the General was smiling at me. I had noticed the change in him ever since he saw me drenched in rain on my birthday night, yes I had turned 16 that night. I had no other joy so that night when it was raining I wanted to have a taste of nature so I ran in the gardens, playing with rain drops. The made me feel pure and free for the first time. But like how good times end mine too. I heard someone calling for me and I made my way towards the house, when I was about to enter I saw General gawking at me. At that time I realized I was completely drenched and my clothes left little for his imagination. I ran as fast as I could but since then has  turned romantic towards me, every time I see him I see  and feel lust for me in his eyes. He has arranged for me to be tutored and he had relaxed the slave work and also he started talking lovingly to me. He now started treating me as his possession.

I pulled away from the unusual position and walked away after apologizing him. "Soon you would be in my arms for forever dear..." He said chuckling at my retreating figure.

I ran towards Kitchen and started working and forgot about the event but certain someone thought I was out of line and wanted to punish me.

I was walking towards my servant quarters when a hand gripped me and pulled me in a room

I was about to shout for help when a hand clasped at my mouth " You bitch don't make noise".

My eyes widened when I realized it was Eden holding me. "You won't make a noise when I remove my hand or there will be hell to pay" He said.

"Master...I..." I didn't knew what to say.

"Bitch don't act innocent... now tell me what do you want from General...." He asked.

"I... I don't want anything sir" I said meekly.

He stepped near me and said "Then what were you doing in his arms this morning. Surely it was not like nothing and when he said you would be in his arms forever you didn't even deny. Why??"

"I bumped in to him sir and if you are thinking that I want anything to do with General then you are wrong because I want nothing to do with him. But he would not leave me alone" I said getting angry for him to think that I want to be with that killer.

As soon as I finished my statement I felt a slap hitting my face and I didn't realized it till pain shoot through my veins.

"You leach you try tarnish the reputation of the General and that too infront of me.. his son. Who do you think you are" He yelled and said "If I see you again anywhere near General again I will make sure you will suffer" saying that he left.

I felt pool of tears in my eyes but I had to control till I reach my room. Yes I had a separate room unlike other slaves. Once I reached I fell on my bed. I starting cursing myself. I didn't know if it was me to be blamed or it was my fate. I was held against my will here and I was warned for something I didn't even do. I didn't realize where trail of my thoughts left and I slept. In the morning I woke up to prepare hot bath for General. Yes I was his personal slave. Ever since I came here he would always make sure I learn to do his task because he thinks I must know everything before he makes me his wife.

I prepared his bath and kept towels and left the new clothes for him for the day. He woke up when I was about to leave and said "Good Morning Ria..." 

I wished him "Good Morning My lord" and left. I prepared breakfast while he was taking bath and went in to serve his breakfast when he came out with only towel and I turned away to give him privacy and this was a good opportunity to leave.

"Stay Ria..." He said and I stopped. He reached me and took my hair in his hand sniffed it.

"You smell good Ria..." He whispered in my ears. My heart was beating like it would explode. He kept his hands on my shoulders turning me and said "Ria... I can't wait anymore... I am announcing our marriage today...".

"I....." I was shocked, I knew this would come but not this soon. "Please my lord... I ..." I tried to say but was cut off when his angry eyes dared me to complete the sentence, I still mustered my courage and said "I don't want to marry you sir.... I don't want to be your wife... please let me go sir... ".

"And tell me why not Aria..." He asked clenching his jaws "Do you think I am not worthy of you... you think you are so high above me" He said. I lost my patience and I shouted "Is it not enough that you made me orphan... is it not enough that I served you for last 5 years for the something which I didn't even do... I am not my mother... please leave me...You are old enough to be my father... You might be worthy of love... but I cannot love you... Everytime I see.. I recall my parents death... I recall my village's destruction... is that revenge not enough....Please let me go.... I am loosing my mind here... let me go please" I begged falling on my knees while crying.

"Never... will I let you go Aria..." He said lifting me and pulling me to him "Seems like you forgot your place Aria.... I thought... I thought I will have you after wedding but your defiance need to suppressed... I have changed my mind and I will have you today and now at this moment" He said angrily. I tried pushing him so I would be able to run but his grip was too tight.

He pushed me on his bed with force. I tried to crawl away but he held my legs. He started gathering my skirt up after throwing his towel. He moved on top of me and held my hands above my head.

"So beautiful and mine" He said when he tried to kiss me on my lips which I avoided by turning my face and he kept leaving a trail of wet kisses towards my collar bone. I closed my eyes because I knew I could not escape this hell. He will undergo his revenge. After sometime I heard him groan with pain louder and louder and then his body was limp on me.

My eyes opened only to see that Eden stood near the bed stabbing his father with the knife. Shock was understatement when I saw his bloody hands. Yes Eden has killed him. He made sure to stab him 5 more times till he breathe his last.

Once General was dead, he pushed his body  away from me and asked me to leave this room. I ran away for my life and into my room. I didn't know when and how I reached my bed and fainted. I woke up and saw that everyone was mourning. No one disturbed me since General gave me freedom that if I do not wish I need not do the household chores.

Then it all came back to me that people were mourning for the General. After 3 days of mourning, King announced that Eden will be the next general. I didn't know what to do, to be happy or to be sad. I was relieved that now there will be no one who will touch me while doing my chores. 

After a week there was a demand from Queen for extra help in palace and Queen was asking for help from experience but young staff. We were 5 members who were taken. We helped queen for the celebration and she was happy and she requested for all 5 of us. As Eden was single and there were experienced maids in his household, the young maids were sent to the King's place at the order of the queen. Ofcourse the staff was replaced by new young and old maids in Redrock Mansion.

After Eden became general, in 2 years he had won lots of battle for the empire.Eden made sure he had made a place for himself to be at the palace and he would sneak on me and confess his love to me. I didn't know what made him think that I was the most beautiful woman but he would say it every time he gets me alone and me being me would always run away. But day by day he was becoming forceful and today he tried to kiss me so that he could make me feel his emotions.  But he failed to realize that the only emotion I have lived now is of fear and I fear every man since the day I met his father and meeting him further deepened it.

I was thankful to that stranger but now I was terrified what will happen when the stranger will be dead at his hands how he will punish me. He had warned me not to step out of the room but in my panic I had and now I was shaking thinking about the consequences. Last time when he was holding my face and trying to make his love declaration in the gardens, I pushed him when I felt his breath near mine.

He was shocked first but then he called his soldiers to catch me and bring me to prison where he made sure I was beaten to death and he watched...he watched with the sinister smile and when I was blacked out he carried me to his antechamber where he placed me on the silk bed. He made sure there was a maid present to rid me of my clothes and clean my wounds. Every morning when I woke up he was there smiling at me and feeding me and even though I would have loved to starve myself to death he would force the meal down my throat. I could do nothing and then he would turn me on my stomach and cut the cloth to tend to the wounds he had given me on my back and he would clean them and apply ointment to heal them and once he was done. He would wash his hands and come to my side of bed to kiss me on the back of my head. Yes he would do that religiously, he did it as if I was his universe and he would delay his rounds to make sure I was comfortable and when my wounds will heal and my back will look scarred he would caress each one of them and kiss them one by one. How I know he was doing it... he made sure that there was mirror parallel to my bed in which he would see all my expressions when he touched me. 

Once I was restored to health I found the opportunity to run away from his chamber and God he was angry but when he saw me in the gardens working with other slaves he made a guard brought me to him. Then he said "You are mine Ria.... You will understand one day... but meanwhile enjoy your free time and once I win your hand from King to serve me I will make sure your every waking moment is spent under me in my bed".
