Chapter 5

Chat Noir POV

The call with Hawkmoth ended. All of the anger within my body boiled up inside of me. My eyes stung as angry tears fill them, starting to overflow down my face. He knew how to get to me, he knew how to make me weak, and he did it. I stood up and ran as fast as I could over to the building and instantly, without even thinking, busted the door down with one swift blow. He had to have heard that, Hawkmoth knew I was here now, and that's just what I wanted. I was going to tear him to pieces. I ran into the building, inspecting rooms as I went to make sure I didn't miss a thing; anything. A kept an eye out for anything suspicious, anything at all at this point as I ascended the staircase towards the back of the old abandoned building. Then I came upon a door. The one I had been looking for. And I busted it down.

I walked into the dark room and slowly scanned my surroundings. All I heard was the steady sound of my footsteps as I walked across the cold concrete floor. I walked to what I believed was the middle of the room using the help of my nigh vision and stopped. Everything was silent. No sound dared to disrupt the silence. I looked around for a second before hearing a voice.

"Chat, get out of here!" I heard a voice yell, sounding desperate.

'Ladybug?'

I turned around to look towards the voice, when all of a sudden, the window opened into a butterfly shape and light poured into the room. I flinched at the sudden light and heard a voice yell to me again.

"Chat, watch out!"

I turned around and instantly saw a light strike coming right for me. I dodged, the strike just hair's away from my shoulder. I turn around and see three people; Hawkmoth, his assistant, and Marinette.

Marinette POV

As I stood next two Hawkmoth, unable to move from fear, I locked eyes with Chat. He was breathing heavily after dodging attack after attack from Hawkmoth and his partner. He looked tired, yet relieved, assuming that he had finally found where Hawkmoth was. I looked deep into his eyes, giving him the 'get out of here face', but he simply stood his ground. The look of determination wavered as he though about something and he opened his mouth to speak, one hand now on his hip, holding his baton.

"Alright, Marinette is accounted for, but I have two people to worry about", he said with a slightly worried look forming in his eyes. At that moment, my anxiety returned. I knew what would happen. I looked up and saw that Hawkmoth was looking at me, and he grinned, sending a chill down my spine. He knew I was weak in my human form, but I wasn't going to let him get to me, not now.

"Answer me!!" Chat yelled. Hawkmoth simply looked at him, smiled and pulled me by the hand in front of him. Chat's instant reaction was to get ready to fight, seeing the fear in my eyes.

"You really are a dumb cat, aren't you Chat?" Hawkmoth said as he tightened his grip on my hand.

"How so?" Chat said confidently as he took a step forwards towards us.

"Because you don't know who she really is do you?"

Chat froze in his track, the confidence draining from his face and mind as he looked up and met my eyes. I looked away, not knowing how to face Chat; not knowing what to say to the person I've lied to all these years about who I really am.

"What do you mean?" Chat asked in a demanding voice.

"It's quite simple really Chat Noir. You said you are looking for two people, correct?"

"Yes... so where is Ladybug?" Chat asked in an uneasy voice.

"She's right here", Hawkmoth said pointing at me. Chat looked over at me and we locked eyes again. I could see the confusion in his eyes as he processed the information that was just presented to him. After a few seconds, his eyes widened. He finally understood. He knew the truth.

"L-ladybug is Marinette? How could I not see that?" Chat questioned himself.

"I told you already, Chat Noir, you were to naive to understand." Hawkmoth said with a grin. Chat instantly took another step forward, determined to get me back from Hawkmoth now more than ever...........until I stopped him.

"Chat, don't. You don't need to do this. I am nothing, I'm nobody without my mask. No one notices me. I have to live a lie my entire life because of my secret. I don't want to be a burden to you. Just go, Chat." I said with tears in my eyes. Chat looked over at me, seeming hurt.

"You really think that that matters to me, Marinette? I wouldn't care who you are, I care for what you are. You are kind, considerate, determined, strong and independent and I wouldn't want anyone else to be my partner, m'lady. Think positive........please---." But it was too late.

"M-marinette?"

"C-c-chat, I-I'm s-sorry. I.....I....I hate you."
