Chapter 10

Adrien POV

"Let's get you home." I said to a sleeping Marinette as I walked over to the door of the poorly lit room, Plagg and Tikki following closely behind.

"You two should get in here before we leave." I said to them gesturing to my shirt pocket. With them both in my pocket, I gave them both food and made my way out of the abandoned building that Hawkmoth called home. As I walked outside, I noticed it was dark. Perfect. I could transform once Plagg was refueled and get Marinette home quickly. But, what would I say to her parents? That she was in an akuma attack and was hurt when I found her? That seems more believable than 'Oh, yeah your daughter's Ladybug and she was taken away by Hawkmoth.......' That sounds like I've gone crazy, even though it's the truth, they don't know that.

"Plagg, are you done eating yet?" I asked the small black cat kwami.

"No" He responded.

"Yes he is, Adrien." Tikki responded afterwards. I laughed a little and said my famous line.

"Plagg, claws out!!"

------------------------------------------------------------------

Once transformed, I made my way up to the rooftops and made my way back to Marinette's house. At night the city was quiet and cold. No sound daring to break the silence of the night as the moonlight shone across the sleeping city. And then there was me, running across the rooftops, holding and exhausted girl after a battle that tired us both. Running across the rooftops made me remember something; Marinette is Ladybug, and I now know the identity of the one girl that I truly love, maybe not the way I wanted to find out, but I did. With a smile on my face, I continued my journey to Marinette's house until I was a block away. I went down to street level and transformed back into my human form and ran towards the bakery. As I expected, Marinette's parents were looking out the window, were on the phone and panicking to find their daughter. Marinette's dad looked out the window and saw me and tapped his wife on the shoulder, gesturing her to the window at me. I made it to the door and they opened it quicker than anyone ever could, allowing me inside the entrance of the bakery. They looked at me with relief, shock, confusion and worry as they saw their daughter asleep in my arms, bruised and a little bloody.

"Adrien, what-what happened?" Her mother asked worried at her daughter's state and my own.

"Well, there was an akuma attack and Marinette got injured. I tried to help, then I got hurt and then she helped me out, which I wish she didn't because she hurt herself more. But she saved me." I said looking down at her with worry and concern.

"She just doesn't give up on the people she cares about. I love that about her." I looked back up to see her parents looking at me with a gentle smile.

"Well, thank you for bringing her back to us. You can go, we'll tak-----"

"No. Uh, I mean. That's alright. I'd rather stay here and take care of her. You guys are exhausted, and it was partially my fault for her getting hurt more."

"Are you sure? You're hurt too. Don't you want to rest? Do you want to go to the hospital?" She asked worriedly.

"There's no need for that. I'm not hurt that bad, neither is Marinette, don't worry. And I'll rest after I take care of Marinette. I don't have to be anywhere tomorrow. I told Natalie, my father's assistant, I was going to a friends house too, so they won't worry about me not being home." I said with a reassuring smile.

"Well, alright then. Let me at least make you some soup for you and Marinette when she wakes up." She said with a smile.

"Thank you."

After a while, Marinette's father carried Marinette upstairs, her mother and me following with bowls of soup upstairs to her room. Once in Marinette's room, her father laid her down in her bed and her mother setting the soup on the table next to it.

"Thank you again." They both said as they walked out of her room and to their own.

Once they shut the door, I turned to Marinette. She was sleeping on her bed with a pained expression as she gently breathed out of her mouth, her chest rising and falling with each one. I walked across the hall to the bathroom to get a washcloth and a small container of water, bandages, and medication for Marinette's wounds. As I walked back into her room, I looked up to see a girl looking up at me. I instantly stopped and looked into her sapphire blue eyes.

"A-adrien?" Marinette said with a confused expression. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm taking care of you. You were hurt pretty badly earlier." I said with a concerned expression. She just looked at me in confusion, they sprang up, looking around for something, then cringing in pain.

"Marinette, stop. You need to rest." I said laying her back down, now setting a damp wash cloth on her head.

"Where's Chat? He was with me. He was hurt too." She said with a worried, anxiety filled face.

Should I tell her? I know her identity, so she should know mine. It's only fair.

"I'm fine, m'lady." I said putting my hand on her unhurt shoulder.

Marinette POV

Those words rang through my mind. I only had to think about it for a second before understanding what he meant. I could feel my heartbeat pick up, racing as hard as it could without beating out of my chest. The green eyes. The golden blonde hair. The smile and the warmth of his hand on my shoulder. All of it was familiar.

"You.....y...you're........Chat.... N-noir, Adrien?"

Adrien POV

"Yeah" I said looking up at her. She looked at me and then looked away, wanting to say something as our eyes met again, but she then stopped herself.

"What's wrong Marinette."

"You got hurt because of me." She said to me in a shaky voice. I took my hands off her shoulders and went to hold her hand in mine.

"Don't worry about it, Mari........."

"How can I not worry about it! You got hurt because of me and I couldn't do anything about it because I was being controlled. I'm weak and I can't help the people I care about." She said with tears falling down her face now. I pulled away at her sudden outburst, but then looked at her and smiled. I grabbed a cloth and went to remove the rag on her arm.

"Well, you saved me earlier. From Hawkmoth. You don't need to be Ladybug to help people. You're not weak Marinette. You're the strongest person I know. And you couldn't have done anything more than you did, so don't beat yourself up about it." I said in a gentle voice, dabbing at the wound on her shoulder. She pulled away, then looked me in the eyes, and tried to talk but nothing came out. All I could see was the tears rolling down her face.

"You helped me, now let me help you." I said reaching out a hand to her. She nodded after a while and leaned against the backboard of her bed as I went back to dabbing her wound with the cloth. After a few minutes of silent tears rolling down her face like rivers in the night, Marinette spoke again, breaking the silence.

"Thank you Chat......for everything that you did for me today. I.....I don't know what would have happened if you didn't show up, even though deep down I.....I didn't want you to."

"And why's that?" I asked as I looked at her shoulder, continuing to dab at it with the cloth.

"Because I knew you would get hurt because of me." I stopped cleaning her wound and looked up at her. I then set the rag down in the container of water and stared into her sapphire eyes with my emerald green ones.

"Do you know why I always take the blow for you Marinette? Why I'm always so quick to be by your side during a fight?"

Marinette looked at me, thinking about it, but I went to break her thoughts. I grabbed her good shoulder, pulling her gaze back to my eyes.

"It's because I care more than anything about your safety. Nothing else matters. My mind goes blank. It's like instinct, it just happens. Because you are important to me. I love you, m'lady."

Her eyes went wide and started to sparkle with tears.

"You are my world Marinette. I wouldn't want to be here without you." I said as I held onto her hand.

"I don't know what I would do without you either Chat. I love you too."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I finished bandaging her wounds and one of my own and climbed into the bed next to her. Her eyes were beginning to close with exhaustion, drooping with the weight of the world.

"You should get some rest." I said quietly to her as she laid her head down on my chest and was out cold in a minute.

"Sweet dreams, m'lady." I said as I yawned and began to close my eyes. Then I heard a small voice.

"Goodnight kitty."

And with that, we both drifted off to sleep. Not worrying about a thing. Forget the villains, forgetting our powers, forgetting the wounds, battles and scars, even forgetting about the soup. All we cared about was each other and the peace as we both drifted off to sleep, cuddled together, dreaming of ourselves as Ladybug and Chat Noir.
