DARKNESS HAS INVADED the night as we got out of our sweet old ride. Had a fuzzy feeling when I inspected the habitat. I can't help but wonder more about our 'magnificent' father who 'loved' us dearly. If you're an idiot like me, it's sarcasm babe.
Diego's grunting told me that he was unlively over our mission to sneak into the property.
"How long's it been since you've seen the old man?" Diego brought it up. Five was acting disconnected from his surroundings and maybe feeling surreal about the possible chance of him seeing our father again. "23 years." Five answered.
Diego kneeled down to the glass door locked while Five leaned on the side, waiting for him to gain access. I was behind them, keeping on guard over who might pull out a 'surprise mothafacka' again.
"You know, when I was stuck out there in the apocalypse, there wasn't a day that went by where I didn't hear his voice in my head."
"Yeah? What did he say?" I joined in with an emphasizing look.
"I told you so..." Five recalled with a disconcerted expression. From the moment I saw him again, I could recognize guilt, pain, and regret in his eyes. If he never left, I wonder what things could've been. "Well, if Dad's here, he's never met you before, so he can't say 'I told you so'."
That's actually very sweet of Diego to say.
"I'm sure he'll find a way." Five discussed. Our old man is one cranky bastard.
The boy on my left got a little testy and opened the door from the inside.
"Right. Gotta remember that." Diego said while I held in a laugh.
There were no people inside as expected and it was pitch black, so Five turned on a nearby lamp from the side, only for it to cease to function as soon as we got a meter away. "Guess Dad wasn't much for a home decor," Diego observed.
I approached a painting by the wall and caressed it. "This is a forgery." I started blowing the dust away from my fingertips while Five knocked on some kind of bolster on the corner. "Yeah... It's a front." He approved in which we all had no idea why.
"Well, I'll take the left... Yell if you guys, uh... get in trouble." Diego suggested as he took the door to his side.
"I'll take this one..." I said before opening the door to the middle.
As soon as the door closes by itself I knew I fucked up. I have watched enough horror stories to know where this is going and I'm that dumb bitch that's boutta die.
Just as long I stay calm and don't trip over something when I go on with my fight or flight response over something creepy, I'll be alive. I'm singing a Taylor Swift song right now because this place is scaring me shitless.
Every step I took was my heart's tempo getting faster. Every sound in the room was vacant. It received bad feedback from me. Strange noises always come out when I'm alone. I know you guys are calling me a pussy right now but do ya'll wanna switch places or sumn?
The sinister looking-doors had my blood-curdling. The lights were flashing on and off just added to that eerie vibe I never liked. "I should've gone with Five..." I mumbled.
"Ah!" I screeched once I heard a creaking sound from behind. My hand glowed bright blue, ready for combat and whatever Annabelle doll awaits me.
And finally, with me acting jumpy, I have reached the last door. The room was illuminated by a yellow bulb and a bell-shaped silhouette pranced on the ground.
As I tried to take a peek from inside, the wooden door made a ridiculously loud sound. I slapped my head in disappointment as footsteps gather in my way.
I was caught and I'm fucked. Pretty sure it will be Dad and me between the entrance of the room. A high chance that either of us will try to kill each other. I hated him, but why do I feel so important when it comes to him.
The footsteps stopped. I gulped and watched the shadow from below, praying that it'll mind off and go somewhere else. Still, I activated a shield to protect myself if ever a surprise attack came.
The suspense increases and the climax hits. I felt a presence from my back and I immediately turned my torso at the rear end to find a wobbling punch about to land on me. Out of shock, I twisted my ankle and felt my body losing its balance.
I shut my eyes as I braced myself for impact. Midway, my direction got rotated, and I was twirled around. I landed on something hard, yet firm. It wasn't the ground. I was lying on Five's chest.
I jolted the top half of my body. His hands stayed on the curved part of my waist and his gaze was wearied. He had relief spreading on his face as he laid down the floor with his hair brushing off his well-formed features.
Both our pupils expanded and blinks controlled.
"Holy shit, my life flashed before my eyes," I commented as I stared down at his figure. He gulped at the sight of me before speaking.
"It's just you." He stated.
"Are you glad it was me?" I smirked as my index finger traced his jawline in a teasing manner, trying to lighten up and get him back to his usual 'in denial' Number Five.
"No. Get off." He jeered, grabbing my left shoulder and pushing me off of him.
I yelped and pouted in defeat. I straightened myself as the two of us entered the strange room. It had a whole ass living room with family made up of mannequins.
"Hey, look, it's your in-laws," I joked, referring to Delores.
"Very funny," he sarcastically spoke as he continued to examine the room filled with nuclear testing props.
The table by the side was the next thing that Five raided. He ordered me to check one of the folders to connect the dots of whatever this place was meant to be. He grabbed an envelope and skimmed to the writings. After that he kept it to himself.
Suddenly, the sound of metal cluttered our silent company. It caught both our attention. Our muscles in our body tensed and our breaths quiet.
The noise became weak, and it looked like it was coming from the edge of the room. Five lowered his stance and carefully approached the unknown subject, producing the soft racket.
It was replaced with chittering and grunting. Not from a human, but by an animal.
A gentle squeak came out of its mouth as walked with four. It was...
"Pogo," Five called out gently. Tone as if it were the first time we have seen a long-lost family member. I felt my heartache in this bitter-sweet interaction between the three of us. He looked so tiny and had humanoid yet big and adorable eyes that complimented his endearing facials.
"That's the cutest monkey I have ever seen," I said in awe as I contested myself whether to approach it or not.
"Chimpanzees are not monkeys," he corrected before kneeling down to the little creature. "Okay, Mr. Zookeeper." I gawked back as I did the same thing.
"God, I wanna keep you," I spoke to Pogo. "It's all right, little buddy." Five whispered. This was the first time I have ever seen this boy act so serene. Comfort filled in his gloomy eyes as if it reminded him of home.
The unexpected happened. We're too relaxed to have our guard up. The monkey screeched as he scratched Five's neck and at the same time grabbed our heads and slammed it to each other like it was the WWE championship or something.
"Ow!" I whined as I handled the top of my head. "Diego!" Five called out as he grabbed my available hand with the other, securing the open wound on his neck. "Stupid monkey," I cursed as we exit the area.
