Take Two
The house was quiet when I reached home. Mom must be sleeping already. That, or she was in her room watching a drama on Netflix. I went upstairs and proceeded to my room to take a bath. I was seriously stinky with the juice poured all over me. After taking a bath and changing into clean clothes finally, I leaped on my bed.
I closed my eyes for a bit when suddenly my phone vibrated under my pillow. Groaning, I reached for it to see who it came from. Jasper Lee. I didn't open the message. I was still pissed at him especially at his cranky girlfriend.
"Chastity, dear, you have a visitor!" Mom's voice echoed from behind the door.
I had no plans of meeting that visitor if it was just Jasper. I knew it wasn't entirely his fault, but if he didn't insist on dragging me to eat with him, his girlfriend wouldn't have seen us. I just didn't understand why Jasper always liked to annoy Yumi by being with me. Just then, a knock from my door broke me from my reverie. "Yes mom, I'm coming." I rose up from bed, dragging my feet towards the door.
"It's me." Sab stepped in as soon as I cracked the door open.
"Sab, why are you here?" I followed her in, sitting back on my bed.
"What happened between you and my brother again? Why are you mad at him?" She interrogated, taking the seat from my study table.
"At least he knows I'm mad at him."
"Why are you really mad? What happened?"
"He didn't tell you?" I was genuinely surprised because normally, he would be whining in front of his sister to seek comfort whenever he did something wrong.
Sab rolled her eyes at me. "Obviously not. That's why I'm asking."
"His girlfriend just poured juice on me. How do you expect me to react to that?"
Her mouth opened in shock. "What? Why? W-wait... so you and Jasper were eating together in a restaurant?"
I sighed. "Well yes. But that's not the point. I clearly told him that we shouldn't go but he still insisted. And that happened."
Crossing her arms over her chest, she stood up and walked over to my bed, sitting across me. "So you mean Yumi saw you together there?"
And she really had a habit of repeating what she just heard. "Haven't I said that already?"
Sab's eyes closed momentarily, exhaling. "God! My brother's really so dumb. So what now? You're not really gonna talk to him?"
"Nope," I emphasized the 'P' part.
"But he wants to talk to you," she pointed out, which I already knew just from Jasper's text messages. "He's been trying to reach you but you're not answering him. Why are you acting like you're the girlfriend here? Just go talk to him, will you?"
I might be overreacting right now, but the smell of juice all over me a while ago reminded me that I wasn't. "If you were the one who got poured with the juice, won't you get mad?"
She paused, thinking. Of course, she would get mad. "You've got a point. But anyway, Jasper's outside, waiting for you."
"So he expects me to go over to him?"
"Chastity, just please get your butt off of here and make up with him? I still have a news to tell you." Her sudden change of mood suddenly intrigued me, but I wasn't giving in.
"And what news could that be?" I seriously hope it wasn't about another boyfriend prospect of hers again.
Sab's smile grew wide, her eyes almost sparkling. "You'll find out later. For now, go out and talk to my brother. I'm getting sick of your lover's quarrel, you know."
I threw a pillow at her, before marching my way out of the room. "Dear, where are you going?" Mom's voice halted me on my tracks. I spun around and saw her infront of her room.
"Outside mom. Just have to talk to someone."
"Ah, is it Jasper? You had a fight again?" Yeah, even mom wasn't fazed about it now.
"Yeap. I'll just go out a bit."
I left mom and proceeded outside. My eyes caught Jasper leaning on his car, as if expecting me to come out. When he noticed me, a smile spread across his face. My anger slowly faded at the sight of him smiling. Chastity, you're supposed to be mad at him, I reminded myself.
"Chas, I'm really sorry," he blurted out when I reached him.
"That's it?" I expected more than just that, to be honest.
He swallowed hard. "I know you're really mad at me."
I arched a brow at him. "Of course I am."
"What do you want me to do?" He looked straight into my eyes and I suddenly got defeated.
Looking away, I mumbled, "Nothing."
"What do you mean nothing? Come on. Just tell me," he whined, bringing his hands on my shoulders.
I didn't dare look at him. Otherwise, I might completely give in. "I said nothing."
"Nothing? So we're good now?" His tone implied relief, so clearly, he didn't read my mind.
"I didn't say that."
"Oh come on, Chas!" He shook my shoulders lightly in an attempt to make me laugh. The way his voice almost sounded like a kid who didn't get what he wanted made me cringe and snort at the same time.
"Oh come on, Jas!" I mimicked him, trying to hide a smile.
He opened his mouth, showing a grin. "We're okay now, alright?"
"As long as you promise not to take me into a Chinese restaurant again."
"Promise!" Nodding, he suddenly pulled me in for a hug. For a second, I thought I might lose consciousness. His left hand touched the top of my head, the other positioned on my back. My face was glued to his chest that I could smell his scent, which I recognized to be his favourite. It was addicting that I suddenly became dizzy.
And that was how I always made up with my bestfriend's brother, who was nothing but a pain to me.
"You two! Stop with the hugging and get inside. Dinner's ready!" Sab called out from the front door, startling the both of us.
Jasper and I looked at each other then smiled. He released me from his tight hug, then we both made our way inside the house.
"What did you two fight about again?" mom asked as soon as we reached the kitchen.
I glanced at him then he answered, "It was my fault really."
Wow! So he's not blaming me this time? Now that's new. "Who wouldn't get mad if you got poured on by a glass of juice, mom?"
Mom stifled a laugh. She wasn't even defending me. "So Jasper, you and Yumi are still together?" she asked, ignoring the fact that I just got bullied by Jasper's girlfriend.
"We just broke up actually," Jasper said, eating a spoonful of the mango dessert.
"Because of what happened earlier?" Mom continued to interrogate.
"Not really. I have been wanting to break up with her ever since, but she just wouldn't let me go."
I faked a cough at his confidence. "Oh really?"
He shrugged, showing his perfect set of teeth. "What can I say? Girls just won't stop chasing me."
"Riiiiiight!" I commented, arching a brow at him.
"Brother, you know what, your confidence level is way past the sky now," Sab remarked, causing me to laugh.
"Okay okay. Let's just eat now," mom said, silencing us.

After dinner, we all went inside my room, even Jasper. I was already used to them getting in and out of my room so it's not surprising that they're already comfortable like they own the house. I sat on bed then turned to Sab, who was busy brushing her long chestnut hair. "So, what's your news?"
"What news?" Jasper butted in, his eyes looking back and forth at me and Sab.
"Can you get out of the room? We're having a girl talk!" Sab complained, trying to push her brother out.
"Oh! I didn't know you two are having girl talks," he said, turning to me.
I threw a pillow at him which successfully landed on his face. "Get out!"
"No. I want to hear it. Are you two planning some scheme?" he pressed on.
"Yes. We're planning a way to salvage you right now. Now, go out!" Sab yelled irritatingly at her brother.
Jasper scratched the back of his head, reaching for the door. "Fine. I'll come back in five minutes."
As soon as he got out, Sab turned to face me. Her smile was wide like she won the lottery or something.
"So, what now?" I asked her.
"I'm gonna join a dating show!" She shrieked.
"Dating show?" I repeated. My interest just suddenly died down.
"Yeah. I passed an application form few months ago. I hope I get picked." She squealed beside me.
"You mean like a reality show like Big Brother?" I seriously had no clue about it.
"Don't you ever watch The Bachelor and The Bachelorette?"
I shook my head.
"Well, there will be thirty participants, fifteen girls and guys. Then they will be paired up. Every week there will be eliminations," she explained, her face brimming with glee.
"Sab, it's a reality show! For all we know, everything has been planned out already from the start and end of the show. Everything's scripted. I bet there's already a winner." It was true. All shows were scripted for all we knew.
"You're such a mood killer!" She slouched her shoulders, piercing a glare at me. "Oh, and before I forget, I also passed your application form."
My eyes almost bulged out of its sockets, looking at her. Isabella Lee, are you looking for a death wish?
