Take Twenty-Seven

"DEAR, you're awake already?" Mom asked, as soon as she saw me approaching the kitchen. I moved next to her, kissing her cheek. "I'm still cooking breakfast."

"I know, mom. What can I do?" I asked, looking at the pan she was holding.

"Just sit right there and wait for your breakfast. I haven't seen you for a long time. Just let me take care of you," she said, flashing me a smile and facing back her pan.

I did as what she told and watched her cook. It was still 6 in the morning, but I was already wide awake. I guess I got used to the wake-up call back in the villa. I still couldn't believe I was already home. It felt surreal seeing mom and being here at our house. I suddenly missed being in the villa, which was ironic since I originally didn't want to be there.

"So how was it being in the show?" Mom suddenly asked, turning to me.

I looked at her and shrugged. "Just fine."

She nodded. "And how are you and Jasper?"

"We're good, mom. Why?"

"Oh nothing. I just thought something happened between you there."

"What something, mom? Nothing happened there. We're best of friends."

"Yes. But he confessed to you, right?"

I sighed. She really didn't miss anything from that show, I must say. "Yeah, but... we've agreed to stay as we are."

"Then, how about that Tristan? I wanna meet him."

My eyes grew wide upon hearing her. "Tristan? W-why do you wanna meet him, mom? He's a total jerk and-" I got cut off when she spoke again.

"And the guy whom you fell in love with." She ended with a sly smile.

"Mom!" I protested. "That's... not it."

"Ah, my baby's really mature now, being in love and all..." She paused, looking at me. "Look at that. It's my first time to see you blush."

I didn't know I was blushing. All I knew was I was feeling warm inside me. "Mom! Stop it! I don't wanna talk about it."

She closed the stove, placing the eggs and bacon on the plate. Then, she moved towards me. "Chastity, it's time for you to feel this kind of thing. If he's the one in your heart, then go for it."

I paused. "You... really think so, mom?"

She nodded. "Of course. But first, I want to meet him."

"That's... not possible."

"Why not?"

First of all, I didn't know what to say to him. And secondly, I was scared to face him. But I couldn't say that to mom. "I don't know where he is."

"But you just went over to their house before, right?"

Okay, so she really knew everything that happened. "I don't want to go there alone, mom."

"You want me to come with you?"

"No, no. It's just... embarrassing." I admitted.

"It's not embarrassing, dear. I don't want you to regret things later in life, so just do what you want to do now." She advised me. "I'll let Jasper come with you."

****

I thought mom was kidding when she said that. Jasper was the least person I wanted to ask to accompany me. But I had no other choice because Sab was too busy with Jiro now. That's why a day later, I was riding on Jasper's car going to Tristan's hometown. We got a little lost along the way, but we managed to find the right path through Skye's directions. Yeah, apparently we got in touch with her.

After how many hours, we finally reached our destination. I specifically asked Skye where to visit her sister's grave so I told Jasper to head there for a while. I just wanted to see her before facing Tristan. "Are you sure about this?" Jasper asked me, when I got out of the car.

I nodded at him. "I have to do this first."

He flashed a thin smile. "Alright then. I'll wait for you here."

After that, I marched my way towards the grassy lawn, scanning around and searching for the house tomb with the name 'Ahra Samantha Tan' on it. I stopped on my tracks when I finally found it. My anxiety level skyrocketed at that instant, but I continued to walk forward until I reached inside.

There was a photo of a pretty girl hanging on the wall of the house tomb. I presumed that was her already. She had tantalizing narrow eyes, pointy nose, small lips and round face. Any guy would fall for her type. I suddenly got intimidated just looking at her photo. I gulped hard, as I placed the candle on her tomb and muttered a prayer for her in silence.

"Hi Ahra!" I started to speak, still gaining enough courage. "Uh... I'm Chastity. But you probably already know me. Uhm... I just want to apologize for everything that I said to you and your sister. I didn't know you're already an angel up above."

I smiled, as if I could see her. If she was there at that moment, I wanted to let her show that I went there in peace. "I don't know how your relationship went with Tristan before... but I can see that you both loved each other."

I took another breath, before speaking again. "I know that no one can replace you in his heart. But..." I paused, swallowing hard. "...I want to take care of him and be by his side. I'm here to ask permission from you to let me do all the things you could never do to him again. Please let me do it in your place from now on, Ahra."

A sudden gush of cold wind hit my face. I shivered, rubbing my arms. "Is... that a yes?" I asked, trying to divert my fear. "I hope it is. Uhm... thank you. I promise to be good to him, Ahra. I have to go talk to him now. I hope it'll turn out fine. Goodbye and thank you again..."

I quickly ran my way back towards Jasper's car after that. I was still feeling cold. When he noticed this, he asked me, "Chas, are you alright?"

"Hmm... y-yeah. Let's go." I said, still rubbing my arms.

"Are you cold? Here, take my jacket," he offered, taking off his black jacket and wrapping it around me. "I think it's going to rain."

"We'll still go." I insisted.

"Okay then."

The thick clouds were hovering up the sky already. It even started to drizzle causing Jasper to worry. But I had to do this now. I couldn't let this pass another day again. When we finally reached outside of their house, I quickly got out and pressed their door bell. Thankfully, there was a hood on Jasper's jacket to protect me from the drizzle. After a few rings, no one still opened the gate. I could see the lights turned on from the window of his room on the second floor.

"Chas, you'll get sick!" I heard Jasper calling me out from his car at the other side of the road.

I turned around and signalled him to just wait. I had no intention of leaving not unless he showed his face to me. I pressed the door bell again a few times. "Mrs. Anderson! It's me, Chastity! Please open the gate. I just want to talk to Tristan. Please!" I shouted.

When no one still responded, I took a pebble from the ground and started pounding on the gate really hard. "Tristan! Please talk to me!"

I was getting impatient and the rain already poured down heavily already. Jasper kept on calling out to me, but I continued to ignore him. I didn't mind getting sick. "Tristan Nam Anderson!" I yelled again.

My throat was already dry and sore from yelling. I kept on shouting, still hoping someone would open the gate and let me in. But after almost an hour of being drenched in the rain, no one still came out. "Chastity, go back here now!" Jasper told me.

I slammed my fists on the gate real hard, before deciding to turn around. I guess he really didn't want to see me anymore. But then, as I took another step forward, I heard the lock of the gate creaking open. I snapped my head around and there he was, standing and looking at me, and now being drenched by the pouring rain as well. "Why are you here?"

"Tristan!" I moved towards him, leaving a gap of one foot between us. "I... came here to see you."

He stared at me for a while. "Why?"

"I..." Damn! Why can't I say a thing now? This is so frustrating! "...what I told you during that night..."

"You don't have to explain Chastity. I get it. You love Jasper." He said, about to close the gate again.

"No, wait. Hear me out first, will you?" I told him, almost yelling. "Tristan, I'm sorry for what I told you. That was just a lie. I don't know what you did for me to feel this way. Hell, I don't even know what this feeling is. All I know is that I missed seeing you, talking to you and just... being with you. I know that you love Ahra so much but I am willing to wait until you can finally open your heart out to someone else again. I'm just hoping you'd let me into your life because I'm going crazy just-"

I wasn't able to finish what I was saying already because he already grabbed my waist, pulling me close to him and sealing his lips to mine. That feeling of nostalgia came to me again just like the first time he kissed me. He was my first kiss and I was glad that he was. If I had to picture out an ideal kissing scene, this would be it – countering the cold rain with a hot and passionate kiss.

When he finally stopped, we were both breathing heavily and catching our breaths. I felt like I just ran in a marathon. "Chastity, you are my life now. I know that Ahra would be glad to know that I chose you. I will never let you regret every single day you're with me."

I smiled at him. "I... never thought I'd say this but... I like you Tristan."

"I like you too, Chastity." He said, pulling me again for another kiss.
