Take Twenty-One
MY hand got sore after slapping him. It was my first time to do such thing. I had the urge to punch him in the face but I resorted to slapping. I wanted to make him feel the way I was feeling. I was so mad at him for what he did. I didn't even know why I was so affected at the fact that he only pretended to like me. I should be happy, right? But, no. I wasn't happy at all.
He slowly turned to face me again after recovering from that shock. "I don't understand why you did that. But if that's what you want, I'm more than happy to endure it."
I creased a brow at him. "You really want me to play in this little game of yours? You want me to pretend that I like you back for us to win this show? Damn you, Tristan!" I punched his chest over and over, while sobbing like a little kid. I probably looked pathetic infront of him right now.
But he didn't move no matter what I did to him. "Chastity, what are you talking about?" He finally asked, holding both my hands.
I stopped punching him, wiping the tears from my eyes. "Skye told me everything. You can't fool me now, you devil! Jerk! I hate you so much! And I hate myself for actually believing in you. I don't wanna ever see you again. Just leave me alone."
Tristan dropped my hands and watched me burst into tears again. He didn't even explain or defend himself, which only meant that it was all true. I had no reason to stay there anymore so I ran away from him. I couldn't afford to show him that I was affected by what he did.
I was running while looking down the ground so I almost collapsed when I bumped into someone infront of me. When I looked up, I saw Jasper looking at me. "Chas, where have you bee-k?" He asked, hiccupping. "I was...looking all over for you."
I quickly wrapped my arms around him. "Jasper!" I was glad to see him because I needed his comfort at that moment. But then, I smelled something weird from his scent. "Jasper, you're dead drunk!"
"What? I just drank a little...hik!" He explained, still hiccupping.
"Come on, I'll take you to your room." I told him, but he stopped me.
He rested his forehead on my shoulder. "Let's rest here for a while."
"But Jasper..." I objected. "Fine. But not like this." I helped him get to his knees so we were now both sitting down the grassy lawn, only his head was resting on my lap. "You shouldn't have drunk too much during the game. Look at yourself!" I scolded him, playing with his hair.
He smiled. I noticed his cheeks were red. He was really dead drunk. "Stop telling me off now, Chas. I know something is up with you. Why were you crying?"
"What? I wasn't crying." I lied.
"What did that douche do to you again?"
"Nothing." I said, looking up the night sky to avoid his eyes.
There was silence for a while. I looked at him again. His eyes were closed this time. He must've fallen asleep already. I was preparing myself on how to carry him to their room, when suddenly he spoke. "Chas, wanna know something?"
"Huh?" I asked back.
He slowly opened his eyes to look at me. "The thing that Sab told you before. Do you remember that?" He paused. I nodded. "It's true. I've been in love with a girl for years now."
I suddenly got excited and anxious upon hearing that. "Really? What kind of girl is she? Do I know her?"
He smiled at me, touching the tip of my nose with his index finger. "She's loud and blunt. She's average in class, but pretends to be smarter than the smartest in school. She loves riding bikes and skateboards, prefers to play ball and video games than go shopping, doesn't even cut her nails not if I tell her to."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "What kind of girl is that?"
He bit his lip, reaching for the hair covering my forehead. Then, he messed it up like what he always did. "Her hair is always a mess, especially in the mornings so she always ties it up into a ponytail. She isn't really someone who looks like a celebrity or a model. But everytime I see her, even just in her plain shirt and jeans, my heart instantly shoots up and flutters. No one has ever made me feel that way, you know. Only her..."
I gulped down, still stunned. I didn't know what to respond. Suddenly, I felt like I got struck by a lightning. Real hard!
"You wanna know who she is?" He continued to ask me.
I didn't move from my seat. Slowly, he rose up and faced me. He brought his hands to the sides of my face and cupped it, leaning closer to me. "It's you, Chas. I've been in love with you, all these years." He ended, planting a kiss on my forehead.

I didn't know how I even managed to carry Jasper back to their room that night. All I could remember were those words he said to me and how his kiss still lingered inside me. The circles under my eyes were so dark when I woke up the next day that it almost looked like I got a disease or something. Of course, I wasn't able to sleep again that night after all that happened.
I didn't bother to cover my dark circles with any cream anymore and just proceeded to the dining hall to get some breakfast. I sat alone on a vacant table after getting my food from the catering service and ate the eggs and bacon silently on my seat. Just then, someone poked my back causing me to turn around. I instantly froze at the sight of Jasper, smiling and sitting next to me with his tray.
"Yo, Chas! Good morning!" He greeted me cheerily, munching his bacon. It was as if he wasn't drunk last night. Weren't people supposed to have a hangover upon waking up?
"G-Good morning!" I greeted back, trying to sound natural as possible.
He frowned at me. "Why are your cheeks red all of a sudden?" He asked, pinching both my cheeks.
"Ah... awww!" I slapped his hands so he finally dropped them.
"What's up with you today?" He asked, drinking his soda.
"W-what? I should ask you the same question. Doesn't your head hurt a bit? You were dead drunk last night in case you forgot. Oh, and not to mention, I carried you to your room, y-you... dummy." I said in haste, avoiding his weird look.
"You did? OMG! Chas, I'm so grateful to have you as my bestfriend!" He said in a high-pitched tone, imitating Sab. Then, he stopped. He burst out into laughter. "Is that what you wanna hear from me?"
I shot him a glare. "Screw you, Jasper." I was about to stand up, but he caught my arm.
"Hey! I was kidding. Thank you last night." He flashed me an innocent smile.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "You should be. I could've just left you there for you to freeze to death, you know."
He chuckled. "Did I do anything weird or funny? I couldn't remember a single bit after that. It was all blurry in my mind. Ugh." He shook his head.
I stopped when he said that. So he didn't remember what he said to me? It is likely that what he said probably was just an effect of the alcohol. He couldn't possibly mean that, right? Tell me I'm right. But it was a relief that he couldn't remember it at all. I don't want to be awkward around him as much as possible.
"Hey, Earth to Chastity! Are you still there?" He said, poking my head.
"H-Hey, stop poking me!"
"You were spacing out." He paused, narrowing his (already narrow) eyes at me. "It's unlikely for you to do that. Are you sick?" He suddenly held his hand up to my forehead.
"N-No, I'm not. Let's just eat!" I ordered him, shoving his hand away.
He scowled at me, but continued to eat anyway. Meanwhile, I was cursing myself for acting weird around him. This was what I was afraid of. I didn't even think I'd get affected by what he said last night, whether he meant that or not. Maybe it was what I was really hoping for all these years? Or not?

AFTER breakfast, we were inside the van again, heading towards one of the main attractions in Summer Hill, the Super Ranch. We were tasked to ride everything there and the fastest couple will have another dinner date as a prize. I wasn't thrilled at all 'cause first of all, I was just informed that the highest Ferris wheel in the country is here – the Cloud Eye (kinda like the London Eye). And second of all, there was this ride called 'Super Viking' and judging just by its name, I bet I'd risk my life riding that.
"I know what you're thinking, Chas. But let me tell you, we'll win this. AGAIN." Jasper emphasized the last word, as he gripped my hand tighter.
"Alright, couples. Again, whoever gets to finish riding all in the shortest period of time will get the special dinner date." Victoria announced, smiling. "In 3...2...1... GO!"
Jasper pulled my hand so I had no choice but to run along with him. Our first stop was the Cloud Eye. We quickly entered inside one of the gondolas with the cameraman with us. "Why did we have to ride this first?" I asked Jasper, not looking down as the wheel started to move.
"We need to conquer this first before going to the carousel and the other kiddie rides." Jasper explained, smiling, as if he wasn't scared. I bet he's just pretending to be brave infront of the camera now.
The wheel was moving so slow that I wanted to get off already. Though I must say, the view from up there was great, but my fear was just really getting in the way. I gulped down, gripping Jasper's hand.
"Aren't you enjoying?" He suddenly asked me.
"No." I answered bluntly.
"Why do you have to be so honest? Can't you at least pretend infront of the camera?" He said, pointing at the camera infront of us.
"Like what you're doing now? No. I don't think I can." I said again.
He chuckled, messing my hair up. "You're too blunt."
I frowned at him. After 10-15 minutes, the wheel finally stopped. Thank heavens. I shook my head, steadying myself from the dizziness I felt. "Let's go!" Jasper exclaimed, pulling my hand again.
Near the Cloud Eye was the carousel so that's what we rode on next. Memories of my childhood started to flash back, as I rode that. My parents often brought me to amusement parks like this, though I was always afraid to ride without dad beside me. But since he passed away, mom and I never went to one. I knew that mom thinks of dad still, just like I do. It just never goes away.
"Thinking of your dad again, huh?" Jasper suddenly spoke beside me, as our ride went up and down.
I nodded. Of course, he also knew about that, and so with Sab.
He squeezed my hand tight. "I'm sure he's just here watching over you now."
I glared at him. "That's not a good joke, Jasper."
"I wasn't kidding." He said, shaking his head.
After riding the carousel, we went to the Super Viking next. I was ready to pass out just by the sight of it moving sideways, and even turning around. But Jasper convinced me to try it. I wasn't supposed to give in, but somehow hearing him say that assured me that I would be safe.
It was the most terrifying ride I've ever rode on and I swear to all Gods and Goddesses that I wouldn't ride it ever again. It was just really sickening. In the end, we didn't win the dinner date 'cause I already gave up riding after that Super Viking experience.
