Take Three

"CHAS, aren't you going to let our classmates sign your uniform or something?" Sab asked me, while handing out her notebook to one of our classmates.

"No," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. I think it was childish to let them sign our uniforms. Are we in kindergarten?

It was the last day of junior high and they were all seriously busy letting our classmates sign autograph books, uniforms etc. I didn't even see the whole point of this when we know we'll get to see each other again after summer break for senior high.

"Don't you want to have a souvenir of our classmates?" Sab asked me again.

"What's the use of yearbook then?" I stated, matter-of-factly.

Sab creased her brows at me. "You're so indifferent."

"I know. I get that a lot," I said, watching our classmates walking back and forth inside the room. It was making me dizzy that I want to just doze off.

Just then, I heard Sab's phone ring. I watched as she answered it. "Uh... yes ma'am. A-ah.... F-for real? O-okay. I got it. Yes. Thank you." When she hanged up, she squealed so loud that everyone in the room turned to her. "OH MY GOSH!!! CHAS!!!" She shook my shoulders so hard that it hurt.

"Sab! Can you calm down? What the hell is this about?" I answered, trying not to sound irritated.

She leaned in closer to my ear. "Don't tell this to anyone, 'kay?" I nodded. "They called me and said I'm in for the second round of auditions."

"What audition?" I blurted out.

She quickly covered my mouth with her hand. "Ssssshhhh! It's for the dating show I'm telling you about," she whispered.

"Oh-kay..."

"Aren't you thrilled?"

"Nope."

"But wait, if I'm in, then..." She paused, groping for something in my pocket. "Check your phone."

I creased my brows at her. "What? Why?"

"See if they called you."

Sighing, I fished it out from my pocket and checked as what she said. "See. There are no missed calls. I guess I'm not in." I shrugged at her.

"Maybe... they'll call you later. I'm still crossing my fingers to that."

"You can cross all your fingers and toes for that, but I bet they won't ever call me." I chuckled at that thought.

"Ha! Really? Anyway, I need new clothes for the audition. Let's go to the mall after this."

"What? No way! You've got plenty of clothes in your wardrobe. Seriously Sab, don't get too caught up about this thing."

She raised a brow at me. "Whether you like it or not, you're coming with me later."

And yes, true enough, after that memorable last day in junior high, I was there standing inside a boutique with my bestfriend, who had apparently tried out almost all of the dresses in the aisles. "Sab, can't you just pick one among those?" I asked her, tapping my feet while as she picked another dress to try on.

"No! I need the perfect dress to impress whoever is gonna judge us," she answered me.

"It's not even a beauty pageant. Just go out there with your most comfortable clothes, for Peter Pan's sake. That's the point of it being a reality show," I pointed out at her, but she just ignored me.

I sighed as I watched her go back inside the fitting room again. Just then, I heard my phone ring so I quickly answered it. "Hello?"

"Yo, where are you?" I didn't have to see the caller id cause I knew exactly who was calling.

"Uh... we're here inside a boutique. Your sister can't seem to make up her mind. Why'd you call?"

"That's good. I'm here at the mall as well. Just finished eating. I'll call you back."

As soon as he hanged up, Sab stepped out of the fitting room with a sparkly cream dress on. I must say the dress suited her well, showing off her flattering curves. "This is it, right?" Yeah, she could pretty well distinguish what's right and not for her even if I wasn't there. What's my point of accompanying her again? Right. To second the motion.

"That is it, alright. Now can we go?" I said impatiently. "Your brother just called and-" I wasn't even finish with my sentence when she spoke again.

"Wait... I think the blue one is also pretty." She stopped, grabbing the blue dress from the lady's hand and looking at it intently as if her life depended on it.

"Sab! Just buy both of them if you can't make up your mind."

"Oh right. That's a brilliant idea. I'll take both, miss," Sab finally said.

I sighed in relief as I waited for her to pay for it on the counter. I glanced at the entrance and saw a familiar figure making her way in. "Oh crap!" I muttered as I quickly grabbed Sab's hand, motioning her to move faster.

"What's your problem, Chas?" she asked in confusion.

"It's her," I said, looking at the girl who was already approaching them.

"Yumi," Sab murmured.

"Oh! If it isn't the ugly slut who thinks she can steal away my man," Yumi hollered at us, taking off her huge shades which could almost cover her entire face. I mean, seriously, why was she even wearing dark shades inside a mall?

"Excuse me? Look who's talking. My brother already dumped you in case you still didn't know," Sab answered because obviously I couldn't think of any spiteful comebacks at that time.

"What did you say? He dumped me? FYI, we're still together," Yumi insisted.

"Oh really? Want me to confirm it from him?" Sab brought out her phone and started dialling her brother's number.

"We'll see about that." Yumi raised a brow at me. I wasn't even answering her anymore because I didn't want to waste my breath on her.

"Hello Jasper?" Sab started to speak over her phone. "Oh you're on your way here? Yes. Yes we're here at Bluem. Hurry up."

Sab shrugged, tossing her phone back inside her bag. "I guess you'll just have to hear it for yourself."

After roughly five minutes, Jasper showed up inside the boutique. He was stunned to see Yumi there, I guess judging by his widened eyes. "Y-yumi, what're you doing here?"

Yumi placed a hand over her waist. "So, are you really dumping me, Jasper Lee?"

"You want me to say it again? We're over, Yumi," Jasper emphasised every word he said.

Sab and I exchanged glances and smiles.

"N-no! You can't! This is not right. You said you loved me." Yumi clutched her chest, sobbing dramatically.

"Well,  ever heard of lying? I just did," Jasper stated, not even batting an eye at her. I suddenly wondered if he even loved her at all.

"Is there someone else?" Yumi questioned.

Jasper fell silent. Sab and I looked at each other again. Is there someone else? Knowing this guy, I bet there probably was already.

"Yeap. There is," he finally answered.

"Who?"

I got startled when Jasper just pulled me from the side. "Right here." He gripped my shoulders tight, not wanting to let me go.

What are you saying, Jasper Lee? I wanted to yell at him and punch him in that moment. But at the same time, I was enjoying the fact that Yumi felt humiliated so I just stayed still.

"No! You're going to regret this, Jasper. Remember that." Yumi marched her way out after that, throwing daggers at me, but I dodged them all with a single smile.

I suddenly heard someone applauding from behind. Then, I realized it was Sab who was smiling as widely as ever. "Good job, brother!" The siblings high-fived each other, while I just watched them savor that little victory.

After I composed myself, I hit Jasper at the back of his head. "Do you both think that was funny?"

"Hey! What was that for?" He scowled beside me, rubbing his nape.

"That's for your stupidity, Mr. Lee! Have you realized what you've done?"

"Yeah. Yumi won't bother me ever again." He grinned like a psycho.

"Then how about me, huh? You just made me her icon of revenge."

Jasper tapped my back. "Hey! Don't be so grumpy. Don't worry, you've got my back." He winked at me, making me smack him again.

I was riding my bike going to the nearest convenience store later that night to buy some midnight snacks since Sab was staying at our house for the night. Again. We're just having a little celebration marking the first day of summer vacation. I bought our all-time favourite snacks, Pepero and some iced cold coffee to keep us up all night for our movie marathon.

After paying at the counter, I went out of the store and searched for my bike. I grew anxious when I realized that my bike was missing from the spot where I left it. I scanned around the area and soon enough, I saw my bike already being taken away by some stranger wearing a black hoodie. "Hey!" I shouted, running and hoping that I could catch up.

"You thief! Give me back my bike!" I was already panting hard but I kept on running until I reached a dark, narrow alley where I last saw the hooded person's back.

I stopped running, trying to catch my breath and wiping the sweat dripping from my face. The thief was no longer in sight. Damn it! Where did he go?

I was about to search for the thief again, not until I heard a police siren from behind me. Turning around, a police car came into view, dashing towards my direction so I quickly stepped to the side of the alley. Who were they chasing? Could it be that guy who just stole my bike?

As the police car passed by, someone suddenly pulled me from the side and covered my mouth, preventing me from speaking. "Mmmm... Mmmmmm." I tried to free myself, but the hand on my mouth gripped me so tight I could barely breathe.

Without much thought, I elbowed him hard on the side. "Aaaaaah!" I heard him wince in pain.

Instead of running away, I mustered up my courage to face him to know who he was. I was astounded to see that he was the same hooded guy who stole my bike. "What do you think you're doing, huh?"

The hooded guy looked at me, so now I could slightly see his face, despite the fact that his eyes were covered with shades. I noticed that his dark hair was oddly parted in half, exactly midway. He stared at me for a while before handing me a piece of crumpled paper which he brought out from his pocket.

"What is this?" I asked him, staring back at the paper in my hand.

But I didn't hear any answer from him. After a few seconds, I just realized that he already ran away, grabbing my bike from somewhere, completely taking it away from my sight. "Hey! Come back here! I need my bike!" I shouted in frustration.

Sighing, I unfolded the crumpled paper, which seemed to be a cut-out from a magazine or some sort. "If you didn't see me, you didn't see me and you wouldn't ever know."
