Take Sixteen

AFTER THE 2nd elimination night, I couldn't believe I was still there inside the villa. Cheska, Leighton, Emily, Julian, Zachary and Liam were the ones eliminated that night. I knew how much they wanted to stay. I should've been the one voted out, but no. I get to stay for another week. I don't know if I should be happy about this or not.

For the 3rd week, we were given the liberty to choose where to spend our time with together with our chosen partners. That was the best part of it... I was already rejoicing inside, not until I learned that the guys get to choose their partners again and this time, not only for 2 days but for a whole week.

Anyone, please pick me, but him... "Chastity, you've been chosen by Tristan and Jasper." Victoria announced, after everyone has chosen their partners. "Okay to settle this, we'll have to ask the guys where they want to spend the whole week with you, but we won't tell you their answers. You'll have to pick one from the two places... and from there, you'll know who your partner will be."

Okay, that seemed to be easy and difficult at the same time. After the two guys whispered their answers to Victoria, she turned back to me. "Chastity, where would you want to spend this one week: a. at the guy's house or b. at your house?"

What the heck? They seriously said those answers? Ugh. Knowing Jasper, he probably chose to stay at their house and that devil chose to stay at our house. But still, Jasper could've chosen to stay at our house. Oh crap. This is making me insane.

"Chastity, you have 30 seconds to think it over. What will you choose? A or B?"

Dammit. This is even harder than being in a quiz show. I glanced at the two guys. The devil was smirking at me. Meanwhile, I saw Jasper lifting his chin. Does that mean A? "Uh... I choose..." I tapped my foot in apprehension. "A?"

"A? Is that your final answer?"

I sighed. "Yes."

And then, I totally regretted it because I saw Tristan's smile as wide as ever while Jasper was shaking his head at me. Oh no!

"Your partner for the week is... Tristan." Great!

****

I pretended to be asleep during that whole ride in the van. My eyes were closed as my head was leaning on the car window. We were headed to Tristan's house back in the province. I learned that he's living alone in the city, while his family lived in the province. I still couldn't believe that he chose to stay there for a week. I guess he also missed his family.

"So why did you choose to stay at your house for the week?" One of the female staff namely Kylie, who accompanied us asked him.

"It's been a year since I last saw them." He answered quietly.

"Ah. Really? It must be hard for you living alone all this time."

"Not really." He answered, and after that, the staff didn't ask any more questions.

The road became rocky from that point and so, my head kept on hitting the window, but I tried not to budge a bit. Must keep still and pretend to be asleep, I reminded myself. But then, I suddenly felt a hand on the side of my head moving it and resting it on someone's shoulder. I sighed. Why does he keep on doing things like this?

Minutes later, the van finally stopped. We finally arrived. I slowly lifted my head up and saw Tristan looking at me. "We're here." He told me. I just nodded.

He led the way towards the doorway. After pressing the doorbell, we waited for someone to open the door. "Oh my! Tristan, son you're here." His mom was completely surprised at our presence. After hugging him, she immediately led us the way inside their house.

"We're so sorry to come here in short notice, Mrs. Anderson." The other staff, Rica apologized.

"Oh no, no! I'm just glad you let them visit here." Mrs. Anderson said, fixing her glasses over her eyes. Then, she suddenly glanced at me. "Oh, you must be Chastity?"

I flashed a thin smile. "Yes ma'am."

"I'm glad to finally meet you, dear." She said, greeting me with a hug.

"Ah... s-same here, ma'am." I answered, stutteringly.

"Ma'am? Just call me auntie, from now on."

"Ah... a-alright, auntie." I answered awkwardly. I looked over at Tristan. He was smiling at me. Tss. So this is his plan, huh?

****

AFTER THAT day, I got to meet his grandma and younger brother as well. They were all very nice which made me wonder how he got his cocky personality. Anyway, after eating dinner, which involved the staff filming Tristan feeding me with his hand (yeah, I was about to puke after that), they all finally proceeded to their rooms upstairs.

Meanwhile, I decided to stay in their living room, looking at the photos in the shelves. Most were photos of Tristan and his brother. There was this picture wherein it looked like he was smoking a cigar with his friends, which didn't surprise me anymore. But mostly were photos of him with his family, but there was never one with his dad on. I suddenly wondered where his dad was. Just then, I saw an old photo of him. I almost didn't recognize him with his hair back then. His hair was neatly cut with bangs covering his forehead. He looked so innocent with that kind of hair on.

"Can't sleep?" Someone suddenly asked from behind me, which gave me a startle.

"Oh geez. You scared the hell out of me." I said, holding onto my chest.

He chuckled. "Sorry. Hey, don't look at those." He said, when he noticed me looking at his photos.

"Why? You're afraid I'm gonna judge you because you're smoking in this picture?"

"I already stopped smoking when I entered the show, Chastity."

I nodded. "Okay! Anyway, I think this hair of yours is better than what you have now."I said, touching a part of his hair with my finger.

"You want me to change my hair back?"

"Why? You're actually gonna do that?" I asked him.

"If that's what you want." He said, shrugging.

"Don't do it just because I told you so. Besides, we're still not friends." I turned my back at him.

Just then, he caught me by the arm. "Chastity, I'm sorry."

I turned around to face him again. "What?"

He heaved a sigh. "I know I was a jerk. I'm sorry if I... deliberately kissed you. Sab told me that... that was your first."

I held my palm over his face to stop him. Ugh. I can't believe Sab told him. "You already did it, Tristan. It's not like you can still take it back."

"Yeah. But I still can make it right. I'll make sure to make it special the next time."

"Who says there'll be a next time? Ugh. I'm going to sleep now."

"I'm sure there will be." I heard him answer, but I already proceeded to the stairs, leaving him behind.

****

WHEN I woke up the next day, I didn't see Tristan at their house. The staff told me that he went out with his mom. They probably wanted to do some bonding time together. I went outside of their house and saw his grandma watering their plants in the front lawn. I offered to help her but she refused saying that she needed it to make her bones stronger. I didn't insist after that.

I walked to the side of their house and suddenly, something caught my eye in the corner. It was my bike – the one he stole back in the convenience store. I moved towards it and saw that it was still clean... almost like new even. When his grandma saw me, she made her way towards me. "That's very special to Tristan."

I snapped my head at her. "Special?"

"Yes dear." She nodded upon saying that. "He always tells us to clean it everyday and to make sure that no one touches it but us. He said it belongs to someone else so he takes good care of it."

I deadpanned after that.

"He said he only used that once during that one night when I called telling him that his mom got hospitalized. He had to catch up on the last bus to take him here." She was talking about Tristan's mom. So if I was getting this right, he stole my bike due to an emergency? Ugh. I should be mad at him because stealing is still against the law, but now that I knew his reason, I understood him a little more.

"Grandma! Chastity!" Someone suddenly called from behind us. I saw Tristan with his mom coming their way towards us after stepping out of the cab. What caught my attention even more was his hair. He really changed it back to his old one. The usual middle-parted hair of his was gone. His forehead was now completely covered by his hair again. I could no longer see his slanted brows, only the cold look in his eyes.

"Oh dear, you're home. Ah, and you changed your hair back again." His grandma said, messing the hair on his forehead. "You look so handsome, my dear."

I just stared at him as he smiled at his grandma. After his mom, grandma and the 2 staff who accompanied them went back inside the house, we were both left outside, still not speaking.

"Chastity..." He spoke with a hint of hesitation in his voice.

I gulped down. "You really did change your hair, huh?"

He nodded. "But... I know that's not what you want to say."

I heaved a sigh, glancing back at the bike on the corner. "That's my bike, right?" I finally asked him.

He nodded again. "I'm sorry I had to... steal it from you."

"Why didn't you just tell me that you needed it instead of stealing it?" I asked him, a little bit infuriated.

"If I told you, would you have let me borrow it?" He asked seriously.

"W-well..." I paused. Of course I wouldn't since I didn't know him. But still, if he tried asking me, then maybe I could've.

"That night, I was already panicking. I couldn't afford to lose another person in my life." He said, looking down the ground.

Another person? Maybe it's his dad. But I wasn't in the position to ask him so I just left it hanging like that. "I forgive you."

"What?" He said, lifting his head up.

"Don't make me say that again." I turned my back at him.

"Chastity, wait..." He caught my hand again.

"What is it?"

"Let's go out on a date tonight." He said, smirking.

****

HE REALLY wasn't kidding when he said he'd take me out tonight. Of course, the two staff were much more elated to film us as we reached the amusement park near their area. I hadn't been to one ever since I was a kid. I never got the chance to go to places like this since dad died.

The park was crowded at that time, mostly were families spending time together. "Where are you two riding first?" Kylie asked us, while filming our faces.

My eyes wandered around and saw the rollercoaster ride first. "Why don't we ride that?" I pointed at it.

They all looked at the direction I was pointing and immediately, I saw Tristan's face turning pale. "Can't we ride another one?" He suggested.

A smirk formed on my face. "I want to ride that. Let's go." I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the booth.

The staffs agreed to pay for the tickets, while Tristan and I fell in line. I looked at him and I could sense that he was uneasy. "Is the devil afraid of heights?" I asked him bluntly.

"W-what? No!" He said, his eyes shaking.

I stifled a laugh. "Don't puke okay?"

He rolled his eyes at me.

"I'm kidding." I raised my hands up in the air, suppressing another laugh.

When we got our tickets, we positioned ourselves in the seat. I buckled my seatbelt and looked at Tristan beside me. "This will be fun." I mumbled, causing him to turn to me.

"Right." He said, sighing.

Minutes later, the machine started to move. I gripped Tristan's hand tight, as we reached the highest part. I could feel my heart beating fast already. The machine paused for a moment and in a split second, we slid down the way so fast that I felt like I was dropping in dead air. "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I heard the screams of the people who were riding with us. I wanted to scream as well, but I was too stunned to even say a thing.

After that ride, I felt like I was gonna throw up. I turned to my side and saw Tristan, looking paler than before. "Are you two alright?" Rica asked us.

I just nodded at her. Then, I turned to Tristan again. "Hey!" I said, but he didn't speak. I think he was still recovering from that experience just like I was. I realized that our hands were still intertwined with each other. Neither of us dropped our hands during that whole ride. I was about to release my hand already, but I felt his hand gripping mine tighter again, as if not wanting to let me go.

"You guys want to ride the ferris wheel?" Kylie suggested.

I nodded. "Sure thing."

"Alright. We'll buy the tickets." The two staffs proceeded to the booth first. I was about to follow them, but then Tristan pulled me close to him.

"I thought you said you weren't scared of the rollercoaster? You were shaking that whole time." He said to me.

I smiled. "You felt it?"

"Your hand..." He paused.

"I thought you didn't notice. Anyway, don't you feel great that you conquered your fear?" I asked him giddily.

"But... we could've just ridden on another one instead of that. I was worried that you might faint there."

"But I didn't... because you were there with me... holding my hand so I was less scared." I confessed. Because that was the truth.
