Take Seventeen
NO ONE spoke after I told him the truth about me actually having fear of heights as well. We were now inside the capsule or booth thing in the Ferris Wheel. Apparently, Tristan ordered the two staff to not enter inside our booth. Four people were supposed to stay in one booth but he paid for the other two seats just to have it for ourselves.
"Why did you have to shove the staffs away?" I asked him, breaking the stillness between us, as the wheel started to move slowly.
"I didn't shove them. I pleaded to them and they agreed." He answered.
"Still..."
"Would you rather have them here and film us two together?"
Now that he mentioned it... "No."
"They were tagging along with us this whole time. I want to spend time with you alone."
I turned to him. He was dead serious. "Tristan, please stop saying those things from now on."
"What things?" He asked innocently.
"Ugh. Never mind."
We were silent again after that. The machine was moving so slow so it wasn't really making me feel dizzy. In fact, I enjoyed seeing the view from up there. "It's pretty up here. I wish they're here with me."
He suddenly snapped his head back at me. "Who?"
"Sab and... Jasper."
"Jasper, huh? So it's true that you like him?"
"W-what? N-no. Why are you suddenly asking that?"
"I don't like it everytime he goes near you... especially when he touches you like he owns you." He said, avoiding my gaze.
"What???" I asked like I didn't hear him, but I heard it all clearly. Why was he saying this to me?
"I'm jealous at the fact that you know each other since you were kids. It's like he has already an advantage over me."
Jealous? He's... actually jealous? And he's confessing it to me? Before I could even answer him, the machine already stopped. I didn't notice that we took our time talking and spacing out just like that. We spent that whole time in the park feeling awkward with each other... or at least just me.

THE NEXT day, Tristan's mom suggested that we go hiking to the nearby mountain where they usually go to. The staffs were up for it, though I was a bit hesitant. After a lot of convincing, I finally agreed to it.
"Tristan, your mom told us that you used to hike up this mountain." Kylie told him while focusing the dv cam to his face. "What's so special about this mountain?"
Ah so that explains why he's so brave entering the forest back in the camping activity. I looked at him beside me. He was expressionless as usual as he led us the way up to the rocky trail. "How would I know?" He said, answering the staff's question.
"Uh... I heard that if you reach the peak of the mountain, you can make a wish and that wish will come true." Rica answered delightedly, turning to me. "What will you wish for, Chastity?"
"Uhm... I still don't know. I'll have to think it over on our way up there, I guess." I answered, pretending to be amused. I wasn't really interested at making wish. If it won't come true, then wouldn't that be disappointing?
"How about you Tristan? What will you wish for?" Kylie asked him again.
"I'd wish for you two to stop asking me any more questions." He said bluntly, causing the 2 staffs to glare at him.
"You know how he is already." I said to them in a low voice. "Just try to extend your patience."
Rica suddenly moved closer to me, when Tristan and Kylie were a few meters ahead of us. "How can you even stand him?"
I just shrugged. "I couldn't stand him. I just... learned to understand him a bit, I guess."
"If you could've only picked Jasper..." She muttered beside me.
Yeah. If only I could've. I sighed in return.
"Hey, catch up faster!" Kylie yelled from a distance. We both ran our way up the rocky trail. It was really exhausting. Tristan kept on running ahead of us. But we just let him. We couldn't control him anyway no matter what we say or do. He will always be the devil that he already is.
After hours (or rather, minutes) of trekking, we finally reached the peak of the mountain. Tristan was already there waiting for us, admiring the view from up there. I was amazed at how wonderful the scenery was from where we were situated. It was my first time hiking so you couldn't blame my sudden fascination.
"Wow!" I heard the staffs say in awe. I just smiled at them. Just then, I heard Tristan speak beside me. "Don't you like the view?"
"I do." I answered simply.
"Well you should. I even bothered to hike up here just to let you see it."
Again with those comments of his. I just nodded at him. "So, you already did your wish, huh?"
He nodded. "Now it's your turn."
I wasn't supposed to wish anything. I was happy with my life. Except maybe for the fact that I was in a dating reality show. Hmm... should I just wish to get kick out of the villa? "I'll tell you my wish if you tell me yours. Deal?" Yeah, I was curious of his wish.
He shook his head in answer.
"Okay. Let's go down now then."
"Hey!" He suddenly called out. "Alright. Deal."
I smirked. I closed my eyes and thought of a wish. "Done. Now tell me your wish." I told him, as soon as I opened my eyes again.
"I wish that... I'll win the show with you." He answered with a hint of hesitation in his voice.
I heaved a sigh. "Okay. Though I doubt that will happen. My wish is for you to stop being a devil and act more humane... though I doubt that will happen as well. There... we both jinxed our wishes."
"Why did you two say your wishes out loud?" Kylie asked us (or reprimanded us in a way).
I just shrugged at her.
"Come on. Let's go back down now before the sun sets." Rica suggested.

WHEN MORNING came, I saw Tristan's mom in the kitchen cooking breakfast. I immediately went to her side to offer help even though I didn't know how to cook that much. She asked me about my family and how I ended up in the show. Of course, I told her the truth that I didn't plan on going to the show.
"Oh really?" She asked in awe.
I nodded. "My friend signed me up for it, ma'am."
"Ma'am? I told you to just call me auntie, haven't I?" She said, smiling. "Anyway, thank you for being patient with my son. He's really hard to deal with."
Really hard to deal with, I wanted to say, but I just smiled at her.
"Please don't get tired of him, Chastity. I know he really trusts you now. It's been a long time since I last saw him smile again. And I believe it's because of you, so I wanna thank you for that."
I was confused. He really wasn't the type to smile a lot but I didn't think it was really because of me. "I don't think you should thank me, auntie."
She shook her head. "The fact that he chose you to visit here in our house is already an indication that he likes you... a lot. I know my son, dear."
I sighed. What am I supposed to say? "Uh..."
"Mom!" Someone suddenly spoke behind us. It was Tristan with his eyes widened at the sight of me there with his mom. "Were you talking about me?"
"Oh, no honey. Here, eat." His mom handed him a plate and laid the eggs and bacon on the table.
"Uh... I'll just call Ms. Kylie and Rica to come down now, auntie." I told her, as I hastily exited the dining room.

"WHAT DID mom tell you?" Tristan asked me that afternoon, as we walked down the park near their house. It was drizzling at that time, but fortunately, it stopped when we reached the park. He was pushing my bike, after using it to go there. Yeah, I rode that bike with him.
"Nothing. He just told me how devil you are since you were a kid." I lied, of course.
"That's not true. My mom would never say that." He said, looking at me.
Okay, so I guess he did know his mom. I sighed. "It's nothing. Why does it bother you anyway?"
"It's just that..." He paused. "Never mind."
"Hey! Chas, Tristan! Let's go sit over there." Kylie suggested, pointing at the big tree which we could use as shade.
As soon as we reached it, we set up the blanket on the grassy lawn and the picnic basket which his mom gave us. I sat on it and just watched the people walking in the park. "Hey!" Tristan spoke beside me.
"I actually have a name, devil!" I answered him.
"Chastity!" He finally said.
I turned to him with a frown. "What?"
"Why is that bike of yours special to you?" He suddenly asked.
I gulped down at his question. "Why do you wanna know?"
"I just want to know."
I sighed. "My dad gave that to me... his last gift to me before he..." I wasn't able to continue anymore. Just the thought of it made me want to cry.
He nodded, then I turned to him again. From the very first time that I saw him, I was already curious of his tattoos in his arm. But I was always hesitant to ask him. "I wanna ask you something, as well."
He looked at me. "What is it?"
"Why were you being chased by the police that night you stole my bike?" I asked, gauging his reaction.
He looked away from my gaze. "I... stole other things in the past."
"Why?" I continued to ask.
He didn't answer.
I heaved a sigh. I guess he didn't want to tell me. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
"I know what other people say about me. But I hope you believe me, Chastity." He suddenly blurted out, causing me to look at him in worry.
"I believe that you have a reason for doing things, Tristan. Just like this..." I paused, reaching for his left hand and turned it to see his wrist. "What is the meaning of these tattoos in your hand? Stay Gold... and this..." I pointed to the one in his upper inner arm. "Jean Michel Basquiat."
He continued to look at me. Then, he spoke. "Stay Gold... just like what your name means..."
I creased my brows. What my name means? Aside from 'virginity', the real meaning of chastity is... "Purity?"
He nodded. "I want to stay pure... pure in thoughts, words, actions."
Okay, that was deep. I never expected it to be like that. I thought it was more of a 'Stay Cool' vibe. "Then, how about the other one?"
"Jean is my favourite artist." He said, leaning his head on the trunk of the tree.
"Artist? Celebrity?" I asked again. Obviously, I didn't know that person.
"He is an artist... someone who creates art, fool."
I turned to him with gritted teeth. "Hey, that's why I'm asking, genius."
He heaved a sigh. "I just admire how he makes art. He once said that he thinks about life everytime he does it."
I looked at him. He seemed to really like this artist a lot. I've never seen him talk about something this serious. "So you having these tattoos make you feel special, huh?"
"I feel more meaningful everytime I see them. It's like a reminder to me." He said, still serious.
Now that I think about it, he was right. I've always thought that people with tattoos just want to look cool or something. But now, I guess I was wrong. There was a deeper meaning to it. "I want to have one."
He snapped his head at me. "What did you say?"
"I just think you're right... about the reminder thing. I want to have one myself." I paused, thinking on what I want to have. "Hmm... what should I put?"
"Are you sure?" He asked again.
I nodded. "Maybe I should just put my name so that it'll remind me of staying pure as well."
"Alright. Since you're so eager, let's go." He suddenly said, standing up.
"W-what?"
"We're going to the tattoo artist I know, the one who did mine. I might as well add one to my other arm." He smiled.
Okay, is he being serious now? Cause I'm not...
