Take Four

"What did you just say?" Sab asked hysterically, after I told her that my bike just got stolen by some strange-looking thief.

"Ssssshh! Can you lower your voice? Mom will hear you." I silenced her with my hand.

"B-but... you just got robbed!" She stated in a loud voice again.

"You make it sound like I own a huge bank. Can we just move on with our movie?" I told her, tossing the crumpled paper on my bedside table.

Sab turned to look at the paper and grabbed it. "What's this?" She unfolded the paper and read, "If you didn't see me, you didn't see me and you wouldn't ever know?"

"Never mind that. That's nothing."

"This is not nothing, Chas. Tell me."

I groaned. I knew that she wouldn't let it pass again not until I tell her. "That thief gave that to me."

"What?"

"You want me to repeat it again?"

"No! I mean... why would he give this to you? Is he some crazy psycho stalker?"

"No I wouldn't bet on that. Now give me that back so I can burn it tomorrow." I tried to grab the paper but Sab held it tight in her hand.

"No Chas! We're keeping this."

"WHY?"

"Just let me keep it!"

I gave up. "Fine. Whatever you want," I said, as I played the movie on the laptop.

Just then, Sab's phone rang. I focused on the movie while hearing Sab talking over the phone. "You're coming over? No! It's girls night-out! God! Fine. Fine. Bye."

As soon as she hanged up, I didn't have to ask her who the caller was. I already knew it was Jasper. He always has this habit of coming over whenever we're trying to bond together.

"He's coming," Sab muttered.

"Figured that out seconds ago," I answered, munching my Pepero sticks.

"Should I tell him about what happened to you?"

I turned to her on my side. "Don't!"

"Why not? He's gonna help us find whoever stole your bike."

"No need, Sab."

"Fine."

We fell silent after that as we watched the movie, She's All That. Yeap, you could say we love '90s movies.

Few minutes later, Jasper showed up with two boxes of pizza in his hands. "Thought you might be starving already." He said, sitting next to me on the floor and laying the pizza infront of us.

I quickly opened the box, grabbed a slice and eat it with pure delight. The good thing about him coming over was that he always knew what to bring – food.

"Wow okay. Thank you very much, Chas," he told me as he watched me finish the slice in a minute.

"Thanks," I mumbled while chewing.

"You've got a pretty good timing bringing her fave food, brother considering the fact that her bike just got stolen." Sab covered her mouth after saying that. Yeah, she just really can't shut her mouth most of the time.

I glared at her, while Jasper looked at me. "What? How? When? Where?" He interrogated like an inspector.

"What's done is done," I muttered, grabbing another slice of pizza.

But Jasper closed the box before I could even grab one. "What happened Chas?"

"Someone stole it. End of story," I said matter-of-factly.

"How?" He continued to ask.

"She went to the convenience store earlier then saw that someone got her bike," Sab narrated like she was actually there in the scene.

"What??? Were you hurt?" Jasper grabbed my hand, as if searching for any wound.

"I'm fine. He didn't do anything to me," I said, shoving his hand away.

"That's a relief. We need to report this tomorrow," he said.

"No need."

"What?" Jasper exclaimed. "We need to report this Chas."

"Yeah. And that bike is special to you, isn't it?" Sab reminded me.

That bike was special alright since it was the last birthday gift that I received from dad after he passed away. But I didn't want to make a fuss and search the whole country for that strange-looking guy who stole it. "Please let's just forget about it."

"Alright then. So that must be why I had a feeling that I needed to come over here," Jasper said, looking at me.

Sab suddenly coughed. "Don't make it too obvious next time brother."

"Of course I need to take care of my girlfriend," he said, placing an arm on my shoulder.

I smacked him on the head. "What girlfriend?"

"Oh right. Boyfriend," he corrected himself, earning another smack from me.

"Aww! Alright alright. I'll stay still now."

"That's better," I said then immersed myself with the movie again.

The next day, I woke up sleeping on my bed with Sab next to me. Rubbing my eyes, I straightened myself up on bed and saw Jasper lying down the floor, still asleep. Poor guy! I rose up from bed and decided to wake him up. "Jasper! Wake up!" I whispered near his ear. "Come on, wake up!" I shook him lightly.

He just groaned, turning on the other side opposite my direction.

"If you won't wake up, I'll pour ice cold water on your face," I warned him.

"Mmm..." he answered, half-awake, half-asleep.

"You really don't wanna wake up huh?" I shook him harder this time. But then, he suddenly turned to my side and placed his arm over my back, hugging me. "J-Jasper... wake up!" I struggled to move while I was lying on top of him.

"Oh dear!" I suddenly heard Sab's voice. I turned to my bed and saw her already awake while looking at us with eyes wide open.

"S-sab, help me stand up!" I said, forcing myself to stand.

Sab quickly rose up and grabbed both his brother's hands to let me go. I stood up and gasped for air. "He still has this sleeping habit?" I asked her. Sab nodded.

"The only way to wake him up is water," Sab advised.

"Water it is," I said, stepping out of the room to get some ice cold water from the fridge.

When I went back to my room, I was surprised to see Jasper already up. "Good morning!" He greeted me, yawning.

"Ha! So you were just faking earlier?"

"Faking? What faking?" He turned to his sister who just shrugged.

"Anyway, now that we're up, I want you both to accompany me later to the audition," Sab butted in.

I frowned at her. "Not again Sab."

"What audition?" Jasper asked.

"The one that I told you about," Sab answered him.

"The dating show? That's too absurd," he said in disgust.

"Agree," I told him.

"You'll both come with me whether you like it or not," Sab insisted.

****

Later that day, I was stuck in line with Sab waiting for her name to be called in this dating show she's so hyped up about. We arrived at the tv station at 9 am and now it's already 12 noon and still her name was not called. I was already getting bored, impatient and annoyed by that time.

All I could hear were those girls beside us talking about how excited they were to be in the show and how they should have dressed up more for that audition. I glared at them. They were all wearing those killer heels and very tight dresses (to show off their curves I guess) but looking at them, they all looked like stuck-up wannabes who just want fame and money.

"Isabella Lee!" Someone called from the huge door which was probably the entrance to the studio where the audition would be held.

"Wish me luck!" Sab turned to me with an anxious face.

"Goodluck!" I told her just to boost her confidence up, though I doubt she needed one.

As soon as Sab entered the door, Jasper came running towards me. "Is she inside?" he asked me.

I nodded. "Where'd you go?"

"I dozed off," he answered, smiling.

"Hey! No fair! I was standing here in line for hours and you just slept in your car?" I complained.

"You could've just waited in the car as well. Why did you agree on standing here with her?"

"Because that's what bestfriends do."

"Tss. Yeah right."

Just then, I noticed the girls beside me suddenly fell silent. Their eyes were on Jasper, as if they've seen an actual celebrity. I shook my head in disbelief. "Girls." I mumbled under my breath.

"What? You were saying something?" Jasper turned to me.

I motioned him to lean closer to me with my index finger. "These girls have become statues because of you," I whispered.

"What?" He jerked away, looking at me in confusion.

I pulled his ear again. "I think you need to go back to your car now."

"Hey! My ear!" He rubbed his ear in annoyance. "But anyway, why would I leave if the girls want to see me?" He smirked, smiling at the girls beside me.

I raised a brow at him. When will this guy ever stop flirting? I wanted to hit him again but I was being nice for the day so I just let him off.

Few minutes later, Sab came back with a blank look on her face. She slump her back when she reached us. "So, how did it go?" Her brother asked her.

"It was alright," she answered half-heartedly.

I was about to ask her this time, but then someone suddenly called out my name. "Chastity Gomez! You're next!"

I looked at Sab, wide-eyed. She was staring back at me, trying to hide a smile from her face. "Sab! What is this?"

"You're next!" she just said, pushing me out of the line.

"Jasper, save me!" I looked at him, but he just stared at me, shrugging his shoulders.

"Chastity Gomez!" they called out again.

This time, I could see the glaring faces of the other people in line which probably means, "Just get your ass inside!"

I had a choice to either run away from that scene or get inside and just face whatever was there. And so, I chose the latter. I marched my way towards the door and stepped inside with a heavy heart. I was taken aback to see huge cameras all over the place and a stage set-up in the middle of the room. A panel of judges was seated just infront of the stage.

"Ms. Gomez, step up now." Someone ordered me, probably one of the producers.

I stepped up the little stage with the pink backdrop behind me and the words, "The Perfect Match" printed in huge letters plastered in the middle. "Please introduce yourself." One of the judges with thick glasses who was seated in the middle started to speak.

"I'm Chastity Gomez, seventeen years old," I answered, just like what I was ordered to.

"What else?" Another judge who looked like a celebrity eyed me.

"Uh...." I spaced out. I honestly didn't know what else to say.

"Why do you want to be here in the show?" The judge followed up with another question.

"I don't wanna be in the show. My bestfriend was the one who signed me up for this," I answered boldly.

The three judges exchanged glances then nodded at me. "Interesting!" The first judge commented. "So, what if we tell you that you'd have a lot of opportunities to become a celebrity once you entered?"

"I don't care. I don't wanna be famous," I answered again. This was getting annoying by the minute. Why couldn't they just let me out?

"How about the cash prize of $20,000? That doesn't seem alluring to you either?"

I paused for a while, considering it. "Okay... now you're talking."

"Don't you think that is enough for you to want to be in the show?"

"I guess," I answered, slightly being enticed with the prize money. But I doubt I'd even win in this thing.

"You really don't have to do anything once you're there, Ms. Gomez. Just act yourself." A judge advised me which I didn't think was necessary, unless they'd pick me to be on the show. Oh for heaven's sake, please don't pick me.

I just nodded.

"We're anticipating for you, Ms. Gomez. Goodluck!" The celebrity judge told me.

I sighed, stepping down the little stage. Isabella Lee, what did you just get me into?
