Forbidden (Monsta X)

The courtyard was quiet, no one but the guards at the front steps of the large stone manor occupied it. Changkyun slowly walked along the rocky path that led to the front steps. A suitcase was securely held in his hand as his eyes rose to scan over the massive structure he approached. Though he looked calm, there was a nervousness that had settled over his heart. A nervousness that told him to turn away and run, never look back or return. Regardless, he stopped just short of the steps and carefully set the suitcase down beside him, stepping up the few steps leading to the large white oak doors.

Pushing both doors open, Changkyun stepped into the grand foyer. Black and white marble floors tapped softly with each step he took. The downstairs was covered in shadow, quiet, aside from the murmuring that could be heard from upstairs. His eyes lifted to the second floor as he climbed the crimson carpeted stairs with slow careful steps. A sudden fear washing over him, like something was trying to warn him not to come any closer.

As he reached the top of the stairs, the crimson carpet spread out in every direction, but, it was the decorative doors that had caught his attention. He was drawn to the very room like a bee to nectar. An invisible force, pulling him to those very doors.

He pushed the doors opened and stopped, his eyes scanning the people within. They were all dressed so elegantly in their black outfits and luxurious furs. Changkyun stood out like a sore thumb in his pure white attire.

Just as his eyes were on the sea of people dressed in black, everyone's eyes had turned onto him as if he were some sort of criminal not meant to be there.

Changkyun forced his feet to move forward, slowly propelling him through the ocean of whispers. Anxious eyes darted from one person to another before landing upon a painting at the other end of the room. A painting so life like, it could have jumped right off the canvas. However, his footsteps were forced to stop, a gasp escaping from his lips. A man with dimples that could cause any person's heart to stop had stepped within his path.

Startled by the man's sudden appearance, he didn't even realize his hand had been grasped till it was being brought up to the intrusive man's lips. Quickly, Changkyun tugged his hand back, holding it close to his chest as if just burned by the man's touch. Just as quickly, Changkyun side stepped around him and walked away, closing the gap between himself and the painting just a bit more until he could practically touch it.

Stopping right in front of the painting, leaving the man from earlier in shock, the man in the painting seemed to come to life. Slowly, turning to face Changkyun, the man appeared to be a sculptor in the middle of his current project. A large chunk of marble being chipped away, slowly revealed he male silhouette within. All eyes seemed to watch the exchange between the painting man and Changkyun. A name, silently echoed within his mind as the man from earlier bore holes into Changkyun's back.

"Minhyuk. . ."

The sculptor in the painting, now known as Minhyuk, reached for some wire sitting on the nearby work bench. He twisted it into a small circle, closing the ends to look like a diamond could easily fit in it at some point. His hand reached out, almost as if Minhyuk was handing the small trinket out to Changkyun.

Reaching back, Changkyun held his hand out to the painting, his palm facing upwards awaiting the small gift. As if by magic, the ring appeared in his palm. A loving smile graced Changkyun's lips as he pulled his hand back and slipped the ring onto his middle finger, unaware of the angered force rushing up behind him.

Changkyun had barely looked back up and towards his magical lover, when he realized Minhyuk was no longer looking at him. Instead, he was looking behind him with fear in his eyes. Changkyun spun around, panic rising within him as the man with killer dimples sped by him. He wasn't going for Changkyun, but instead, unsheathed a dagger at his hip and reared his hand back. Changkyun's heart stopped and plummeted to his stomach as his very attempt to get to Minhyuk were stopped by the party guests holding him back.

The dagger had pierced the painting, Minhyuk's heart to be more precise. For any normal person, what would have been blood, paint in the color orange and yellow dripped off the tip of the dagger and onto the marble flooring. The party guests all had smug grins on their faces as if proud of what was done, all while Changkyun dropped to his knees. Tears filled his eyes as he watched his beloved vanish from the very painting he belonged in. His heart had shattered in that very instant as he bowed forward, crying out for Minhyuk as if it would bring him back.

Fresh tears continued to roll down his cheeks as he sat up, his eyes landing on the painting. All that remained was the marble statue, half finished, revealing the upper half of a male body. Arms wrapped around itself as if hugging himself. Its head bowed down giving the statue such a sad aura.

Slowly, Changkyun stood up, his tear blurred vision darting around to each of the people in the room. A chuckle would break the silence in the room, causing Changkyun to back up. He had lost the love of his life within seconds and now feared for his own life. The man with the dagger slowly turned, peering over his shoulder towards Changkyun with a dark glint in his eye.

Changkyun turned just as quickly, running through the crowd of people. His footsteps echoing around the room as he ran out and down the stairs. Behind him, he was followed by his lover's murderer, moving as fast as he could to catch up.

Darting out the front door, keeping the distance between them, Changkyun stopped at one of the man made ponds on either side of the gravel covered walkways. He stood at the edge of the water, his arms wrapping around himself as if to bring himself his own comfort. He sobbed quietly as the sun rose from behind the distant grove of trees.

As if like a spell coming to its end, something extraordinary began to happen, starting from Changkyun's feet. A large stone base formed where his feet should be, that very stone working up over his body. His arms remained wrapped around himself, his head bowing down and to the side as if to sadly peer over his shoulder. His pursuer stopping just short of where Changkyun was, confusion and shock crossed the dimpled man's face, unsure as to what he was seeing.

Where Changkyun once stood was now a statue of weathered, yet beautiful marble, sculpted by a master that no longer existed.
