Chapter 86: What The Hell Did I Just Say?!
"Michael, did you know she was gonna turn up here?" I ask angrily.
Michael shakes his head and raises his hands up, as if surrendering.
"No! Of course not. I didn't even realise she knew where I lived.. look, I better go see what she wants," he replies, before pecking my lips once. "Just remember, she's my ex. I don't like her that way any more. I'm married to you, remember?"
"Yeah," I reply dejectedly, and Michael squeezes my right cheek and smiles sympathetically before leaving the room.
Why do I have a bad feeling about this Brooke Shields chick?
*Michael's POV*
Why is Brooke here? I really am not sure how she managed to find me. I'll have to ask her that.
I come to the front door, where Dexter has run back to let Brooke know I'm coming. I see her look over at me, a little worry in her eyes.
"I'll take it from here, Dex," I tell him, and he nods before running from the hallway.
I look at Brooke. I hate the fact that she's here. She's my ex! Mind you, she is dressed rather nicely. Her hair is curled, like normal, and she's wearing a short beige dress, which hugs her figure just right. When I saw her in the shop, she didn't look great with the uniform.
"Come in, then," I say, and she steps inside the door way. I close the door fully behind her.
"Michael, I--"
"Why are you here?" I ask. She looks down, and sighs.
"There're a couple things I wanna tell you, Michael," she explains.
"And how did you know where I live?"
"I'll get to that, just let me tell you everything I need to tell you, first."
"Well, get to it. My wife is waiting for me in the next room."
"Yes, I, er.. I realised. Um, firstly.. we found the credit card owner, y'know, for the card that your daughter stole.."
"Good, good. Next?"
"Nextly, uh, how did I know where you live? Simple answer. I became friends with someone you may know, uh, his name is Kieran Measures--"
"Where the hell'd you meet him?" I ask.
"Oh, it's a long story. Anyway, conversation was made, and we found out we both knew you. Then, he told me you had moved house, and I asked him for the address. I've been driving here for the past few hours, tryna find you."
"Why?" I ask.
"Hmm," Brooke sighs. "Ever since we saw each other at my workplace, I couldn't stop thinking about everything you said to me. Y'know, how we've both evolved and moved on from one another since then. Any further questions?"
"Yes. And your point is?"
"That day you proposed to me, when we were younger.. and I said no to you.. that day spirals around in my head every day. I can't stop thinking of it."
"I'm gonna change the subject right there," I hold my hand up. "That day we saw each other in the clothes shop.. how did you recognise me, despite my Vitiligo changing my appearance?"
"I can never forget those eyes," Brooke smiles. "That, and I've seen pictures of you evolving, y'know? Kieran has a few selfies of you guys."
I laugh a little, me and Kieran used to love selfies. I guess she has a point with that.
"Ok then," I compose myself again. "So, you still haven't told me the real reason you're here."
"I told you," she replies. "I had a few things to say to you."
"And you've said them, so now you can leave."
"Yeah, uh.. there's still another thing I have to tell you."
"Michael?" I turn my head around to see Becky standing there.
"Hey, sweetheart. This is Brooke, my ex."
*Becky's POV*
How does Michael's ex have the nerve to come here? It's unbelievable.
"Listen, lady," I get up close to her, somehow remaining calm. "Unless you've got a valid reason for being here, I suggest you leave."
"Of course, Mrs Jackson. There're just a few things I need to say to your husband, first."
"And you've said them, so go now," Michael turns back around to face Brooke.
"No, there's one more thing I need to say. But it's personal, so can Becky please leave the room a moment.. please?"
"No. Anything you have to say to me, can be said in front of both of us," Michael says. Brooke folds her arms and sighs awkwardly.
"Please? It's very personal," she begs.
"Brooke, I really can't do this to my wife. She has the right to know anything that I know. Ok?" Michael says.
"Mom?" I turn my head around to see Electra.
"Hiya darling," I say uneasily. "Look, we're just having a conversation here, so would you like to go to your room or something?"
"I just came from it," she replies. "I wanna go out with Kacey."
"Not now, Electra--you've already agreed to meet, haven't you?"
"Maybe.. look, I'm not grounded any more, pleeeasseeee?"
"Just for a couple hours," I say, and she smiles and hugs me.
"Thank you! See you later," she grabs her coat and heads out the door.
She's gonna have a long walk to the front gates of the house. Neverland is huge.
I turn my head back to the conversation.
"Michael, please just give me a couple minutes alone with you.. I don't want Becky hearing what I've gotta say!"
Michael turns his head to look at me.
"No more than two minutes," I say shortly, and leave the room.
*Michael's POV*
"So, what's this thing you're so desperate to tell me?" I ask.
"Alright, let me finish before you say anything, ok?" she says.
"Fine," I give in. She's giving me the puppy dog eyes, and I must admit, it's working.
My heart's kinda melting because of her eyes.
"Ok, so.. like I said earlier, ever since we met again in the clothes shop, I couldn't stop thinking of you. I had no idea why, and it played with my mind these past few weeks. It was almost like a miracle when Kieran told me he knew you; I'd been planning to see you for ages. So, now I'm here. That's that story. Now I move onto the main one," she smiles nervously. Kinda cute.
"Yeah, get to the point," my voice sort of gives out, making me sound a little squeaky. I clear my throat, and smile back.
"When Kieran gave me your address, I was over the moon. I simply had to come see you. So.. I did. But then I realised why I was going as far as to come see you.. because.. I was thinking about that day you proposed to me, in the restaurant, twenty-five-ish years ago. It's been a long time, Michael. A very long time. But looking back, saying no to your proposal was the bad option. At the time, it seemed like the best option, cos I was in love with another man.. but now, I wish I'd said yes."
"W-What?" I ask in shock.
"I realised that feelings never truly leave a person, despite what people think.. and that's the same, from me to you.."
I kinda have to agree with her. Love never fades once you feel you've got it. She's my ex, but I still have a little spark inside of me that feels the way she feels right now. Remember, she was the one to break my heart, I woulda married her right from the off, had she have said yes. I still loved her when she said no to me.. and.. there's a part of me that still does.
"You really mean that, huh?" I ask.
"And I've always had feelings for you, Michael," she says, and I sigh.
"I think we better take this conversation upstairs," I say.
My only logic is so that Becky doesn't hear what Brooke is saying. If she did, she'd murder Brooke, and maybe me, too. I can't risk that.
We arrive at the bathroom. I won't risk it with the bedroom, so the bathroom will do just fine. I sit down on the edge of the bath tub, and look up at Brooke.
"So.. you really meant that?" I ask once again.
"Yes, Michael. Saying no to you was the biggest mistake of my life," she has tears in her eyes, making me feel sorry for her.
Wait.. what am I doing? Stop this, Michael! You're married with kids!
I clear my throat awkwardly, and straighten up. She dries her tears away, and looks up at me forlornly. Ok, that look definitely melts me.
"But you realise I'm married, with kids!" I say in a panic, and she nods.
"Yes, of course. I can't stop your happiness because of how I feel."
"But Brooke.." I whisper. "It's how I feel, too.."
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST SAY?!
"Really?" she asks happily.
This is wrong.
Very wong.
"Yes."
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST SAY?!
"Oh, Michael! That's just.. I'm so happy you feel the same way!" she smiles.
"Uh.. yeah, I.." I don't know what to say.
I didn't mean to say yes. She joins me on the side of the bath, and smiles up at me.
"So.. now what?" I ask.
"Well, I love you, you love me.. you've seen all the romantic movies. You know what comes next.." she says, then edges closer to me.
I try to push her away, but a part of me isn't letting me. I need to stop this! Wait.. do I? Yes! No.. uh..
"Brooke, I--"
*Becky's POV*
Hmm, it's been longer than two minutes now.
I walk back to the hallway. Michael and Brooke aren't there!
"Michael?" I call in a whisper.
I hear a clatter noise upstairs. I decide to walk up there, to see what's going on. I come to the bathroom, and open the door wide. My eyes widen.
"M-Michael?" I ask sadly, and he pulls his lips away from the passionate kiss he was sharing with Brooke.
"Oh, crap," he cusses.
"Yeah, too right it's crap," I walk into the room, and up to Brooke.
"You've got some nerve, haven't you? Kissing my husband after you declined his marriage proposal!"
"Sweetheart, it's really not like that," Brooke scoffs.
"Then please explain why you were shoving your tongue down Michael's throat!" I demand.
"He told me he had feelings for me, I told him the same thing; we kissed. Any further questions?" she replies sarcastically.
"Yeah, I got a question," I say, before yanking her hair and pulling her away from Michael and throwing her to the hallway floor.
"Do you think you're gonna live after I've finished with you?!" I ask.
"Becky, no!" Michael cries.
Too late. I start kicking her in the back, and I lift her up again and drag her downstairs. I think she understands I'm mad.
I let go of her arm, and she falls to the floor by the doorway. I look down at her, and give her a dirty look.
"You never come anywhere near my husband again, alright? I'm sick of girls taking advantage of him and thinking they can just kiss him whenever they freaking well feel like it!"
I kick her in the back once again.
"Mom!" Ryder enters the room, along with Dexter.
"What are you doing?!" Dexter asks in shock.
"Go away boys, now isn't the time," I say, and they leave the room, no arguments.
I look back down at Brooke. How dare she kiss Michael? Janine, all over again!
"Becky, please stop!" Michael demands once again.
I ignore him, staring down at Brooke.
"Now, this is what you get," I hiss, and I kneel down by her side.
I pull her hair, making her entire head lift up, and I force it down again violently.
I understand how Daniel used to feel about violence towards people he disliked now. I've never seen it like that before.
I slap Brooke across the face, over and over, and Michael rushes over and pulls me back.
"Becky, stop!" he demands.
"Tell me one good reason why I shouldn't batter this excuse of a human!" I demand.
Michael looks guilty now.
"Because she didn't kiss me.. I kissed her."
