Chapter 55: She's Trouble
*31st December, 1988, 11:59pm*
"Just a minute til New Year's Day!" Michael squeals with excitement.
He places his arm around me, clutching his drink in the other hand.
"Yeah, then it's 1989!" I reply.
We're all standing outside, waiting for the New Year's Day fireworks to start.
"Oh, 10 seconds left!" Emma squeals.
"10, 9, 8, 7, 6.." the guests of the party count down. Michael turns to me.
"Kiss me, baby," he demands.
"But, I--"
It's too late. He leans in and kisses my lips sweetly, without any warning.
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!" the crowd screams.
The fireworks start, making Michael jump and cut our kiss short.
"We've just finished a kiss we started last year!" he giggles playfully, taking my hand in his.
We both look up to the sky. The colours are beautiful, blue, green, red, gold..
I turn my head away from the fireworks for a moment to look at who's here.
Emma and Mark are kissing. Ryan and Janet are kissing. The Jax boys are watching the fireworks, the rest of Michael's brothers and sisters are hovering round the drinks area.
There are a few random school students here, too.
Me and Michael, we're just being random.
I look back up at the sky, the fireworks are still going off.
"1989, huh? A whole new year," I say quietly.
Despite the low volume of my voice, Michael still manages to hear me.
"That is correct," he says in response.
I rest my head on his side. He's rather tall, I only just come to his chest.
"Hmm. It's January First, and I'm so tired it's not even funny," I say.
"Alright, c'mon guys, back inside now! Fireworks are over!" Michael calls, gesturing with his hand for us all to get inside.
We all enter the house again.
"Michael, I'm really tired," I say.
Michael places his hand over my stomach.
"I understand," he says. "You've had a long day."
He leads me upstairs to the bedroom. I drop onto the bed, fighting my eyes to stay awake.
"I'll be back in a minute. I'm just gonna tell everyone where we are. They might be wondering," Michael says, kissing my forehead and heading out the room.
I close my eyes for a moment. I'm so tired.
*Michael's POV*
I head down the stairs to explain where me and Becky will be.
The music in the house has become loud now, and everyone is dancing like we're in some sorta night club.
I take the remote that controls the speakers and turn the music off for a second.
"Hey, fellas, I just wanted to tell you that me and Becky are going to bed now, so, you can still party, but don't disturb us, ok?" I explain.
"Yeah!" the guests yell in response.
I turn the music back up, and walk to the hallway door. I feel a gentle grab on my arm. I think nothing of it and carry on walking, brushing the gentle grasp off.
I start to ascend the stairs. I feel the grab again. I turn around to see-- oh, crap.
"Hey, Michael. How are you tonight?"
It's Cameron's sister, the "beautiful, hot, smoking" one, Janine.
I smile faintly. "Hi, I'm.. Good thanks, and you?"
Janine smirks.
"I'm great, thanks. You wanna dance?" she asks politely.
"Actually, I was just heading up to my girlfriend, she's kinda waiting for me--"
"Dance with me, Michael," she smiles, dragging me back into the party.
Just as the music turns slow. Terrific.
"So, when is your child due?" Janine asks me.
"Uh, in May this year," I say. Janine smiles.
"That's so cute. He's gonna be sure beautiful like you," she says.
Ok, that sounded a little flirty.
"Thanks, look, I--"
"I like this song. Do you know what it's called?" she asks.
"Uh, no.. I don't know. Is it Cher?" I ask. Janine shakes her head.
"No, Michael. It's too.. un-Cher-ish. It must be.. Whitney Houston or something," she says.
We're standing in the middle of the living room, doing nothing.
"I should really go now, Janine--"
"Dance with me!" she chuckles, taking my hand in hers.
She guides my hands to her waist and places her own on my shoulders.
I take my hands away from her waist, but she just drags them right back on.
"Look, this has been fun, but Becky'll be wondering where I am, so I'm gonna be heading upstairs now--"
"Upstairs, huh? Hmm, can I come?"
Jeesh, she's getting a little strange now. And why does she keep cutting me off halfway through my sentence?
"No, Janine. Where's Cameron? Why ain't you hanging with him?" I ask.
Janine smiles and leans her head on my shoulder. She's taller than Becky, Becky can barely reach my shoulder.
"I'd much rather be with you. After all, what kinda saddo would I look like, hanging with my brother? No point. That's my point," she explains. I nod.
"I'm sure that's true, but Becky'll seriously be wondering now where I am--"
"Oh, don't go! You've barely been here two minutes!" Janine cries.
I pull away from her touch, and head into the hallway.
"Yeah, and I only intend to stay two minutes," I say, arriving at the bottom of the stairs.
I feel the grasp on my arm again.
*Becky's POV*
Where is Michael? He's been a while now. I'm so tired, I want him to get up here so I can fall asleep in his arms.
I can only fall asleep in his arms. He feels like heaven. Is he really gonna force me to go get him?
Ugh, the things I do for him, honestly.
I drag my tired head from the mattress and stand up, balancing myself as not to fall.
I start to walk to the hallway, opening the bedroom door and heading out the bedroom.
I get to the bottom of the stairs. I see a couple of people making out by the stairs.
Ugh, please, save it for home time! Ha..
I start to walk down the stairs, but then it hits me. My eyes widen. The girl has brown, curly hair, slim body, a short, "take me now" sort dress.
The boy--the boy-- slender body, long arms and legs, slim face...
Black curls.
"Michael, what are you doing?!" I cry, making Michael and this mystery girl cut their kiss short and whip their heads round to meet my angered face in an instant.
Michael's eyes widen. "Oh, crap."
