A Choice

Divija's P.O.V:

It had been a few days since I last saw Tony as I was booted out of the mission by the prickly one eyed pirate and no I am not referring to Odin even though he would surely contest for the second position in my list for the worst fathers in the MCU after Thanos for sure. I kept practising hand to hand combat with Natasha and in addition to that also started training with my weapon the trishul. At first it was difficult for me to summon it and all the shield agents looked at me weirdly as I kept on touching my earrings trying to find a way to activate it but Divya finally after having her fill of watching me embarrass myself in front of Fury, Natasha and Clint who was laughing from the vents instructed 'Close your eyes and imagine the trishul in your hand and will it appear'. So I closed my eyes and imagined the trident in my hands, nothing happened at first and I started to get a bit frustrated and red aura began to surround me. 'Calm down Divi and focus command the trishul to come forward it is a cosmic weapon and is sentient, it can feel your motive and will and if your motives are not pure and your will is not strong enough it will not appear' Divya scolded me and I grumbled and I focused again as I imagined the trishul, it was a weapon that I had seen often in temples but never would have fathomed that I would wield it ever in my life.

I pictured its tri pronged blade sharp and deadly and the long staff and the pointed blade at it's end which can alternatively used for stabbing. I could feel the presence of the trishul as it was prodding into my consciousness gauging my worth curious of it's wielder. Suddenly it's prodding became an insistent pushing as if testing me and my head started pounding and the warrior mark at the back of my neck began to burn and I grunted in pain. I could hear Natasha's voice as well as Fury's as they ordered all shield personnel nearby to remove themselves because of the potential danger I could pose if I accidentally release an energy blast but they all became background noise as I solely focused on the energy which I presumed was coming from the trident and let it enter my subconscious as it sifted through my memories gauging my motives but at the same time I did not allow it to control me instead commanded the trident to appear. Finally the erratic and violent thrum of energy slowed down to a peaceful and slow hum as I felt the mark on the back of my neck steadily pulsing and felt a weight on my outstretched hand. I opened my eyes and saw the weapon in my hands surrounded by a menacing red aura. It was an exact replica of Shiva's trident but smaller as it was a part of the divine weapon.

A sense of joy and accomplishment filled me as I held it like a prize and I heard Natasha say "Well it's a fancy pitchfork" and I threw her an offended look as I squawked "It's a TRIDENT!!". The trishula suddenly flared red as it floated over my hand and then pointed it's three deadly blades towards Natasha and my eyes widened 'The trishula is sentient and is a divine weapon being compared to a pitchfork which is usually used in farms and sometimes associated with the devil has angered it. Control the weapon or else it can harm everyone in this building' Divya explained as I started running towards the trident which was speeding towards Natasha as she dodged it by rolling away from the attacking trident. I stood in front of Natasha as the trident rushed towards her again poised to stab her with three sharp and curved blades. I extended my hand calling out to the trishula willing it to obey me as a red aura similar to the one surrounding the trishula and it slowed down but it was still moving fast towards me as I shielded Natasha. I stopped the weapon with my bare hands as the two prongs of the tridents dug into my flesh and I grunted as pain lanced through my hands spreading like fire the middle prong of the trident was just an inch away from my chest. Blood coated the blade as thin streams of it flowed from the shredded flesh of my palms onto the pristine surface of the weapon.

The weapon suddenly stopped and stopped glowing as it jumped back as if burned by fire. 'Call it towards you. It's like a child and has to be guided properly by the wielder. Sometimes you have to be strict and firm but sometimes you have to be gentle and coaxing' Divya said 'So in short treat it like living being and not just a weapon right?' I asked skeptically and Divya hummed in agreement. I extended my right hand forward which was dripping blood towards the trident and called out to it in a gentle but unyielding tone "Come here". It started hovering in it's place as if afraid but I inched closer and called out again "Come to me trishul" it slowly drifted towards me unsure like a scared child. 'It is feeling guilty of shedding its wielder's blood' Divya said sympathy in her voice. It finally hovered over my hand and gently lowered as if trying to avoid hurting me more and I smiled and gently said "Good job" and the trident vibrated as a gentle hum of energy flowed through it as if preening at my compliment. Natasha came up beside me and I smiled up at her as I raised the trident ignoring the stabbing pain that burned its way through my hand. She furrowed her brows and gently took my hands and said "I am surprised how you don't need stitches after stopping a trident, come on let's get these bandaged". Since that day I started practising everyday with a wooden spear then gradually used the trident and gained more control over summoning and commanding it.

During those days I heard about the disaster of a birthday party from Natasha and when Fury finally decided to run an intervention I convinced Fury to let me do the job of convincing Tony on taking the lithium dioxide dose and help him with making the new element as per Howard Stark's research. We found ourselves standing in front of Randy's Donuts as Nat and I watched Fury approaching Tony who was eating a doughnut in a giant doughnut. 'Ah this man has a sense of humour even when he's dying' Divya said and I suppressed a chuckle but a few slipped out when Fury told him to exit the doughnut. Both of them went inside after few moments of Tony haphazardly piloted his suit towards the ground. Nat and I both did the perimeter check and were now hearing the conversation between the two through our comms. "I told you I don't wanna join your super secret boy band" Tony said as my shoulders quaked in an attempt to suppress my laughter but Divya just cackled like a witch inside my head. Fury chuckled and said "See I remember you do everything yourself. How's that working out for you" and I winced as I wondered 'Yikes why do I feel like I'm being called out'. 'Cause you are trying to change the fate of this whole universe single handedly by yourself you dumbass' Divya sassed back.

"Honestly I'm a bit hung over" Tony said slurring his words and I huffed as thought 'Sir, no you look like as if you were run over by a train and it somehow reversed and then ran over you again'. Tony then continued as he asked if Fury was real and my mind wandered again as I thought to myself 'Baby I'm not even here I'm a hallucination' and Divya fell into another fit of giggles at the reference. Nick then gestures us to come forward as Natasha strode forwardly and I followed slowly afraid of the looking at Tony's betrayed expression. "Tony I want you to meet Agent Romanoff and Agent Malhotra" and as Tony turned his eyes widened on seeing Natasha and the bewildered look turned into one of absolute shock and betrayal as it fell on me as a stab of pain went through my heart as if my heart was being rammed against the ribcage forcefully. Guilt flowed through me as I realised that this would not be the only secret that I have to keep from him and not only him but the whole team. Divya winced at the sheer and raw anger on his face and it took every bit of strength in me to not turn and flee.

"You're fired" Tony said pointing towards Nat and then gestured towards me and asked Nick "Do they start training this young" as my heart shrivelled like a plant which is devoid of water. My eyes stung with unshed tears as my throat burned at the hatred in Tony's words and the anger in his eyes. Nat explained her role as a shield shadow who was tasked under Fury when they came to know about his illness and Tony cut her off "I am assuming this information was relayed by our dear Divya here" his words sharp but I steeled myself and was about to speak when Fury said "Mr Stark we already knew your palladium poisoning before assigning Agent Malhotra to you who voluntarily took part in this mission but not to gather intel on you but to protect you from behind the scenes" and I was shocked at the fact that Fury took my side. Tony furrowed his brows in disbelief as he asked "How was she protecting me?" and Fury replied "If she hadn't risked being discovered using her powers in public and protected you from Vanko's electric whips before you got your suit you would have been fried to death". Tony gawked as he narrowed his eye at me as he connected the dots about my head injury to the information he received. "Powers? What powers?" Tony asked confused and Nick gestured me to show him and I slowly raised my hands as blue aura surrounded them. "I can manipulate energy, convert it into any form, absorb it and even turn into pure energy" I explained timidly still apprehensive.

Tony's expression softened a little as it turned thoughtful and contemplative but the hard line in which his eyes and jaws were set showed that it was still a long way to go before he trusts me. Nick continued to scold him like a headmaster would to a problematic kid but Tony turned to me and just asked one question "Why?" and the answer was simple but the truest words I could ever utter as my eyes shown with sincerity tried to convey the message which would be the reason for anything I would do in the future "I had to protect you, as much as possible." Tony just stared at me and I met his gaze unflinchingly this time cause this was the truth and the only thing I was certain about. He turned his gaze away but the tenseness in his posture had noticeably reduced and I sighed inwardly. Nick then gestured me to hit him with the Lithium Dioxide injection when Tony was distracted but I just held it tightly in my hand and stood still stubbornly. "Agent Malhotra are you going against orders" Nick ground out frustration clear on his face as Nat moved closer to me. I ignored them and turned towards Tony who was looking at me with furrowed brows "I'm not gonna do anything to him without his permission. Tony this is Lithium Dioxide it's gonna help abate symptoms of the palladium poisoning" I said as I held the injection towards me and he stared at it doubt clear as day on his face "How do I know this is not poison? How can you be sure this will work?" Tony accused and another jab of pain went through my chest.

"Whether this is poison or panacea you can decide this on your own as the choice is yours. It will always be yours and I will never take it away Tony" I said my voice gentle. "I am sorry sir for lying to you but I only wanted to help you sir even then and even now sir. You never given up even when you were trapped in a cave with terrorists surrounding you with metal embedded in your heart please don't give up now" I said my voice pleading as my eyes stung with unshed tears. Tony's expression softened as he let out a resigned sigh "Fine kid give me the shot" and I sighed in relief as I carefully injected the dose and the scars due neuron damage on his exposed neck began to disappeared slowly as I smiled and said softly "Thank you"

Tony gave me a single nod and though he was far away from trusting me but it was a start and I was glad for it. "Give me a couple of boxes of it and I will be right as rain" but I shook my head as Natasha explained that it was not a permanent solution and just abates the symptom. "Doesn't look like it's gonna be an easy fix" Nick said as Tony said "Trust me I know I'm good at this stuff. I've been looking for a suitable replacement for palladium. I've tried every combination every permutation of every known element." I smirked a little and said "Just because the solution is not pre- existing doesn't mean that there's no solution. Sometimes you've gotta find it first yourself or in this case create one". Tony turned towards me but this time instead of just resentment there was something else in there too; hope. Hope that I was desperately trying to give him and I smiled and continued "Choice is yours Tony give up or get up".

A/N : The above image is Divija's trident also known as the Trishula.
I also changed up the scene where Tony was given the lithium dioxide dose cause that felt wrong. If you want a person to trust you then you don't go jabbing a needle of some unknown substance in their neck without their permission.Let me know how you felt about the chapter.
