It was the next day and Jimin was extremely eager to go to the hospital and pick up his baby boy, but he wasn't going to be released until somewhere around noon.
Yoongi ended up staying the night at Jimin and Taehyung's apartment. He slept on the couch, though. It wasn't the most comfortable night of sleep the new father has ever recieved but it wasn't the first time he's crashed there. He was also excited to take their little man home, but the pair had a couple errands to run first.
They decided to go straight to the police department early that morning. Unfortunately, Jimin didn't have very much evidence other than her phone number from when she slipped up and dialed with her caller ID showing. He also showed them all of the unknown calls he had recieved and told them about her showing up to his apartment when he was still pregnant with Gunmin.
It would take time for a restraining order to be finalized, but he was able to request for a temporary protection order. That, at least, made the pair feel a little more at ease with bringing their baby home. It was a little more safe, which is better than nothing.
Jimin and Yoongi also had to make a stop at 'A Bun in the Oven', the Kim's bakery.
Mrs. Kim had an old car seat she had borrowed from a friend and said that Jimin could use it until he was able to buy a nicer one for Gunmin. It wasn't the nicest car seat, but it would have to do for now. He was really grateful for Mrs. Kim's help and consistent kindness, even though Jimin was sure her heart was hurting for her son, but she was always still so nice. "I can't wait until you're ready come back to work, but please take care of yourself and that precious baby!" she smiled.
----------
Jimin was shaking on the way to the hospital. Although he was excited to take their baby home, there was still this part of him that felt he wasn't ready. What if he wasn't a good mom? What if he can't do this?
Yoongi looked over from the driver's seat and noticed Jimin's fidgeting hands. He reached across the center console and wrapped his hand around Jimin's. "It's going to be okay. You'll be great. Gunmin already loves you so much."
That was all Jimin needed to help him feel a bit more relaxed.
When they arrived, the staff congratulated the parents and were all so friendly. Jimin felt so warm inside when they handed his baby over to him. Gunmin looked so healthy. His cheeks were fuller like Jimin's.
Jimin sobbed when Gunmin cooed up at him. He was happy to be safe in his mommy's arms. Jimin let his thumb trace around his baby's cheek, and the baby smiled every so slightly. "I love you so much, Min Gunmin."
"Mr. Park?" a nurse asked, as she smiled apologetically for interrupting the mother/son bonding moment. "There was a gift delivered here for you, anonymously. We were instructed to give it to you when Gunmin was released."
Jimin raised his eyebrow in confusion. Who would leave a gift here for me? He thought.
The nurse brought inside a light blue and gray car seat that had a big sliver bow sitting on top. The inside cushioning was covered in baby blue elephants that matched perfectly with the theme Jimin had already picked out for Gunmin's nursery area inside Jimin's bedroom.
There was a card resting inside the car seat. Jimin picked it up and tore into it immediately after handing Gunmin over to Yoongi, overly curious to see where the gift came from.
Jimin, my baby, I'm sorry things have turned out the way that they have and I'm sorry that I couldn't be there for you. It must be so hard for you. I hope this gift helps.
Love you Always,
Your Mom
Jimin felt numb towards the words written on the card. Though Jimin is sure his mother's words are sincere, he couldn't help but be annoyed. She had made her choice. She had the chance to be a part of his and Gunmin's life, but she chose her selfish, stuck-up husband instead.
Jimin wadded up the note and threw it in the waste bin. That would be the end of it.
Of course he was still going to use the new present. It was much nicer than what Mrs. Kim had given him to borrow, though he was grateful, but Jimin wanted the best for Gunmin and opportunities like this one do not come often.
He made a mental note to return the other one and thank Mrs. Kim again later.
—————
Yoongi unlocked the apartment door, shoving it open, while Jimin carried inside the car seat that contained their tiny, little, month-old baby.
Gunmin hated car seats. The new parents learned that real quickly. The baby screamed the loudest they had ever heard him while they tried to strap him inside. At least they new his lungs truly were as healthy as the doctors said!
He ended up crying for ten minutes straight until he passed out in the car on the way home. Of course it made Jimin think that he must have been doing something wrong, but Yoongi assured him that Gunmin probably just hated being strapped inside the car seat and not being held by his mommy.
When they entered the apartment, they were startled by the lights flicking on and a loud, "SURPRISE!" being shouted toward them.
Tears were instantly filling the new parent's eyes as they saw their entire friend group standing in the living room that was beautifully decorated in blue.
There were light blue balloons laying all over the floor, streamers hanging from the ceiling, and there was even a banner on the wall that read, "IT'S A BOY!"
Jimin wanted to cry even more when he realized this was his baby shower, since he never had one before Gunmin was born.
Jimin carefully set the car seat down and covered his face with his hands as he couldn't hold his tears back anymore. He was too touched. His friends were so thoughtful.
Taehyung rushes over to his slightly older roommate, and he wrapped his arms around him. "I'm sorry if you wanted some time alone with Gunmin first, Chim. We just couldn't wait to finally meet him and we knew you never had a proper baby shower. Please don't cry, Minnie!"
Jimin pulled away and let Taehyung wipe away his stray tears. "No, Taetae, I love this. Thank you! It's perfect!"
When the boys pulled away from each other, Jimin was able to notice the pile of presents, wrapped in baby themed wrapping paper, and the cake sitting on the bar overlooking the kitchen.
"My mom wasn't able to make it, but she brought the cake that she made herself to make up for it!" Seokjin said with a soft, but genuine grin. Jimin flashed him a grateful smile in return. Things had been tense between them, so it was nice to see a smile directed at him from the older.
"You guys want to meet him?" Jimin beamed.
Yoongi and Jimin tag-teamed to get Gunmin out of his car seat. The baby was sleeping, so he wasn't too happy to be woken up from his nap, but Jimin was quick to cuddle him to his chest and shush him back to a comfortable sleep. This little boy already had Jimin wrapped around his itty bitty finger.
"This is Min Gunmin!" Yoongi announced, proudly.
"Oh my gosh!" Taehyung cried, as he sat next to Jimin on the couch, getting a good first look at his nephew. "Oh, Jimin. You did so good!" He wiped the tears that were threatening to fall from the corner of his eyes. "Can I hold him?"
Jimin nodded and carefully passed his son over into his best friend's arms.
Jungkook took the spot on the other side of Taehyung and quietly admired the truly beautiful baby.
The friends huddled around, but they weren't overbearing by any means.
"He looks just like Yoongs" Namjoon points out. They all nodded in agreement.
"He has Jiminie's lips though!" Hoseok added.
The group of boys all took turns passing the baby around to hold him, and Gunmin did so well. He such a calm baby, other than his hatred for the car seat, but he'll get over that with time. He hardly stirred from his slumber as each of his uncles took turns to admire him.
He finally scrunched his tiny face and hands up, when Hoseok got his turn, looking like he was about to cry. Hoseok looked nervous, wondering what he did wrong.
"You broke my baby, Hobi!" Yoongi teases, making Hoseok pout.
"I didn't do anything!" He quickly defended.
"He probably needs changed and it's about time for a feeding too." Jimin informed, taking his son back in his own arms. "I'll be back."
After Jimin changed and breastfed his son for the first time at home, instead of at the gloomy hospital, he came back to join his friends for the rest of the shower.
They enjoyed the delicious chocolate cake. Mrs. Kim truly was a talented baker. They opened all of the gifts, which Jimin was incredibly grateful for. His friends definitely didn't have to do that, but he was thankful.
Yoongi held his son during most of the festivities, so happy to have his son outside of the hospital and with all of his closest friends.
He could get used to this. Fatherhood, alongside Jimin.
He knew the two of them could do this if they have all of their friends surrounding and supporting them.
