Chapter 29
It didn't take long for her to return with my photos and swords in hand.
"You're friends are outside, dear. You'll need to allow them in," she told me as she walked further into the suite.
I looked up at Sebastian. Sensing my anxiety about leaving the room alone, he nodded and led the way.
Sarah and Jasmine both jumped as we emerged, taken aback by the fact we'd just phased through a wall.
"Wow!" Jasmine exclaimed, wonder in her eyes like a child on Christmas. "That was so cool! How did you do that?"
I looked from her to the wall, and jumped a bit myself, startled that what once appeared to be an ordinary wall now to me looked like an archway, and I could see down the hall to a door that led to the rest of the suite.
"I suppose that once you have access, it appears to you as what it truly is," Sebastian stated, confirming he was also seeing what I was.
"What are you talking about? It's just a wall. You two just walked through a wall!" Jasmine was very confused and excited, clearly happy that I had what she probably thought was a new power. I smiled.
"It's nothing to shout about, Jasmine. Here, give me your hand. Sarah, you too."
They both looked at each other, then did as they were told. Just as before, I faced the wall and thought about how much I loved and trusted my friends, and I once again walked through the barrier.
Once we were through, I released their hands and turned to face them. Their expressions were awestruck as they looked from themselves, to each other, and down the hall.
"That was incredible!" Sarah exclaimed.
"We really just walked through a wall!" Jasmine squealed.
I let out a laugh. "And that's only the beginning. Come check this place out!"
We ran down the hall and into the main room of the suite. I showed them all the highlights, including the extra bedrooms that would allow them to live safely in here with me should they choose to stay.
I also made sure to show them the movie room. They took their time looking through the box of options for them to watch if they were ever bored, and also commented on the lack of more recent films. I told them once we were allowed to visit home, we'd be sure to grab some of our favorites. They all cheered and exclaimed how great this place was and I was thrilled to see their reactions. However, my favorite reaction I got from them was when I showed off my closet.
Jasmine's jaw practically dropped to the floor. After a moment, she was able to close her mouth and run into the walk in closet with glee.
"Chrys, these are gorgeous!!!"
"Right?! And there's so many!"
"Like, I know you're supposed to be a queen and everything, but when will you ever need this many ball gowns?" she asked, clearly still in awe.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Well, when you're immortal..."
She giggled as she scratched the back of her head, turning to face me. "Oh, right. I kind of keep forgetting that part."
I nodded. "That's alright. It doesn't feel real to me, either. Maybe once I'm safe to actually walk around the castle I'll start to feel it a bit more. Hard to believe you're immortal when death is always on your tail."
Jasmine's mood saddened and Sarah placed a hand on my shoulder.
Sebastian walked in, then. "So, how's the tour?"
Jasmine immediately perked up, trying to pretend nothing had happened. "This place is amazing! I can't believe this was here the whole time and no one told us about it!"
He chuckled. "Well, it seemed better at the time to let Chrystal get her memories back before becoming overwhelmed with her destiny and the size of this place. Now that she remembers everything, it's going to be a bit easier to move things along."
"Even though my memories weren't the overwhelming part. It's what comes with this destiny of mine that breaks me." I commented, lowering my head. "I'm not sure I'm really all that worried about becoming the queen. After the visions I've had, it's what comes after that terrifies me."
Sebastian then placed a comforting hand on my free shoulder. He didn't say anything, probably for lack of not knowing how to lighten the situation.
"That doesn't matter right now. Chrys, just enjoy this place for now. We can worry about all of the royal stuff later." Sarah let her hand fall down to mine. "I've been told of your visions, and given a summary of what you saw, but is it really that bad?"
"You don't believe what Lisa told us?" Jasmine asked, stepping out of the closet and closer to us.
"I didn't say that, but stories tend to become jumbled and confused when passed from person to person. I only thought that it would be wisest to confirm with the one who saw everything play out."
Jasmine seemed unsure, knowing that I wouldn't want to talk about it. And she was right, of course. I didn't. But I had been the one to bring in up in the first place, so I figured I might as well answer her.
I gave her a nod, squeezing her hand. "That demon, the red haired one... before things got bad, he was asking me to hand over the kingdom, which isn't something I can really do until it's really mine." I gulped down a lump that was forming in my throat, remembering what happened after. "Once I make that choice to be queen, someone is going to die."
