9: Triggers
"Triggers," Mr. Kim announces, walking down in front of the classroom with his head high, "Everyone has a certain trigger somehow. Could be a good one like when you see candy at a store, or maybe a sad one to the sight of an animal at the pet store because it reminds you of one you had before it died," Then he pauses, looking over the class, "Maybe one that triggers your insanity."
His eyes over the class never fails to strike a nerve down anyone's throat, forcing to listen to him and be ready in case he decides on who to choose.
Everyone knows this look by now.
He's picking his prey to play with.
And no one is prepared to know what he has in store for this session.
"Jungkook, comes to the front of the class."
Jimin's heart dropped, trying hard not to move his eyes to his friend.
The ravenette today has been more.... Not himself today. He just come in and sat in his seat without another word. He's almost a mixture of anger and disappointment, and that is a hard shield to his usual attitude.
Jimin would try to talk to him but he just ignored him with heavy eyes to the window, lips pursed in a slight scowl that demonstrated how he didn't want to speak.
They assumed it was probably because he didn't sleep well last night that he's like this, even though deep down inside they know there's more to it.
Wordlessly the ravenette stands up and approaches the front of the class, carrying an emotionless expression that made Mr. Kim himself even be taken back by the sudden change.
How odd indeed.
Well that won't last for long.
"Hoseok, please approach the class as well."
Now this caught everyone by surprise.
Mr. Kim never calls Hoseok to the front of the class, especially since he's just always quiet and behaves well. Mr. Kim usually picks on the ones who has this tendency to not listen.
What type of demonstration is he trying to do?
Mr. Kim leads Jungkook to the wall that he was chained up to the first week, putting the collar back on his neck but adjusting it in a way so that he's still standing instead of in the floor.
This made Seokjin sit up, growing slightly anxious remembering the last time that Jungkook was chained up like this and that sent a hideous nerve to dance down his spine.
Oh he's hoping Mr. Kim isn't planning on making a part two.
However to everyone's surprise, Mr. Kim goes to Hoseok and also chained his neck to his desk that's across Jungkook, the length of the chain long enough so both of them could be able to walk a least a a feet away before being yanked back
What is he doing?
"I need one more person," Mr. Kim hums before settling his eyes to the unease ginger in the crowd, "Ah yes! Park Jimin."
Oh no.
Jimin can already feel the anxiety rising up to the sight of the chains, bringing so many horrible flashback of his past in lightening speed in his head, but he still gets up and approaches the teacher. Mr. Kim didn't give him a second glance, only approaches to the wall by the board, right between Hoseok and Jungkook, and grabs the collar hanged up there for punishing purposes.
Jimin hesitated, badly.
He knew better than to not follow orders, unless he wants a part two to what happened last time, so with his lips wobbling he turns around and let's Mr. Kim strap the collar on his healing neck from the finger prints.
Flashbacks, so many horrible flashbacks.
"Perfect!" Mr. Kim beams with hands to his back, facing his class, "Let's talk about emotional triggers through live demonstrations!"
Hoseok perks his head up, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Actually even Yoongi looked up confused as well from the crowd. Hoseok is not one to be easily emotionally triggered by anything, he's as emotionless as it gets.
Can a man with a hard wall like how he has break apart too?
"Let's start with you!" Mr. Kim says to Hoseok while standing beside Jungkook, "You're a tough one because you always behave so well in class. However, there's always something..... That makes us snap, right?"
Jimin by now is clawing at the collar s this session goes by, feeling a panic attack rise up with his breathing now coming out in whistle wheezes.
He can't breathe.
Why does the collar feel as though it's tightening?
Is it all in Jimin's head?
Get them off.
Get them off!
Jungkook notices his distress firecracker and looks back at Mr. Kim, lips pursed, "Can we speed up the process?"
Mr. Kim by now is looking at Jungkook as though he grew an extra head. The ravenette said this with a tone so serious and so dark that sounded almost like a cold demand than a question, unlike the stuttering and giddy mess he use to be.
What the fuck happened to him?
However this only made Mr. Kim perk a smirk, leaning towards his face, "Are you sure you want that? Bunny?"
Jungkook's body is suddenly struck shocked.
He did not just....
Did he....
Jungkook's mind whirled to absolute darkness and he visibly started to shake, knowing well this vicious feeling clawing his soul.
"N-No," he shutters, holding himself back through Mr. Kim's sadistic eyes, "Don't that-"
"What was it that your parents called you?" He asks suddenly, "Before you hanged their bodies up on the ceiling like puppets?"
Jungkook shakes his head feverishly, placing his hands on his head, "I-I can't," He breaks a weak laugh, still shaking his head, "No, no-"
"Bunny."
That was it.
Jungkook completely has lost his mind.
It all happened so fast when his chaotic eyes lands to Hoseok in front of him, and he suddenly leaps towards him but to only be yanked back by the chain of the collar.
"BUNNY! I'M BUNNY! BUNNY WILL MAKE YOU INTO A PRETTY DOLL! PRETTY! SO PRETTY!" He screams loudly, his laughter chaotically echoing the room, leaving everyone in completely shock.
They never expected for Jungkook to.... Be like this just by the phrase of a simple word.
A simple word that is like pouring gasoline to a fire.
His biggest enemy.
Jimin, on the other hand. couldn't hold his composure anymore.
He drops to the ground, on his knees, sobbing out loudly to the tightness of his throat, feeling as though a pair of hands are gripping his wrists firmly and squeezing the collar on his porcelain neck to complete suffocation.
"GET THEM OFF ME!" He cries out loudly, slamming his fists against the ground while his other hand now claws his skin in its brutal attempt to taking the collar off, "PLEASE FATHER I WILL BE GOOD!"
Hoseok is trembling as he watches Jungkook maniacally try to attack him through the chains with his wide smile, and Jimin completely dropping into a whole mental break down.
Noises.
So much noises.
He stumbles back to the desk, covering his ears with his wobbling hands, attempting to block them out from pounding his head. Mr. Kim watches with a slow smirk, knowing he hit a nerve with this one.
As expected.
Hoseok squeezes his eyes shut, the screams now drilling his head to a never ending spiral that followed him all the way throughout his life.
Screaming, so much screaming.
Screaming of his parents fighting before his childish eyes, seeing as they would get physical with blood being shed. Screaming of his mother when his father killed her with vicious stabs to the chest. Screaming of his father when Hoseok was sixteen and stabbed him to death.
He hates screams.
Those noises of his victims screaming will never stop replaying his head. That's why he would sew their mouth shut just so he can work in silence.
Now it doesn't stop.
He can still hear them.
And it's so fucking loud.
"So much noise," Hoseok mutters, angrily before completely exploding, "SHUT UP!"
It was all so unexpected when he suddenly reached for the whip on Mr. Kim's desk and attempts to lunge at Jungkook with it, every attempt on murdering him cruising his blood but he's yanked back by the chain. He moves like a vicious animal against the chains, trying to hit just anyone with the whip just to shut them up.
Silence, he wants silence!
Then Mr. Kim stands in the midst of the chaos, smiling at the class, "What you see here are demonstrations of triggers,"And he turns to Jungkook, who's still laughing with tears glistening his eyes now, "Our lovely Jungkook here has a very tender emotional trigger to the word bunny. Something that his parents use to call him before he killed them. Perhaps it's guilt or pain that triggers him to want to kill by anyone in sight after the word is mentioned, desperate to feel nothing."
Then he moves to Jimin, who's clutching to his body on the floor, sweating now, gasping for air, "His trigger are more physical than emotional. Nothing can set him off unless something of something restrains any part of his body, setting off memories of his childhood to feel as though he's reliving them all over again."
Lastly Hoseok, in which Mr. Kim grabs the whip from his hands to slam it against his back instead, forcing him to grow even more angrier, "Psychological would be more the case for him. His deals with sound. Any loud sounds brings back a few delicate memories that has him feeling as relentless as of now. More angered memories and with every need to stop the source of the noises, no matter to what lengths he has to go through to accomplish them."
Then Mr. Kim paces the front of the class, "So when you have a trigger that sets you off, what do you do? What can make it stop so you can keep your mine sane?" He asks almost purposely but then smiles, "Easy, give it what it wants.
So with a button on the desk that he presses down, the collar on Jimin's neck releases, dropping him to the ground like a doll as he gasps in relief and hugs his poor fragile body.
Meanwhile for Jungkook, Mr. Kim grabbed something from the cabinet of his desk and waves it in front of his face.
A stuffed animal bunny.
A cute stuffed animal bunny.
Jungkook heaves and pants from his attempts to lunge at Hoseok, but seeing the bunny in front of his eyes calms that aggressive behavior down as his twisted smile shivers down to a now more kiddish smile, so Mr. Kim gives the stuffed animal him.
"Pretty," The ravenette chuckles, bringing it to his chest, squeezing it tightly, "Pretty doll. Looks like cooky."
Playing with dolls use to be his happy place as a child, especially when his parents use to play with him.
It's what brings him back, all the time.
Hoseok by hearing the silence calms down as well, leaning back against the desk with fluttering eyes closed as the flashbacks slowly drowns away to the back of his mind.
"And there you have it," Mr. Kim says , clapping his hands briskly, "Emotional triggers can be dealt with and handled. When you feel as though you are about to be triggered, you must be able to replace those thoughts and emotions to positive ones. Let this moment be a metaphor with yourself. Something that triggers us can sometimes run through guilt, anger, or fear after an event happened in your lives. Find the source, forgive it and bring yourself back to the reality you're in."
And so he removes the collars of Hoseok and Jungkook, ordering them to go back to their seats. It was a bit of a hassle for Jimin since he was still recovering, so Mr. Kim let him sit on the floor to get his composure upright.
Letting it slide this once.
"So that's going to be your homework," Mr. Kim announces, "You all have security guards I assume. Talk to them about a memory that you believe is your trigger to make you snap. They will record everything and report it to me. If you don't know what your trigger is, think deep enough. I won't accept vague answers. You are dismissed."
Everyone in the class gets up, gives Mr. Kim a bow before walking out of class. Jungkook is much happier now with the stuffed animal bunny as he skips out the door, major difference from how he came in. No one else said a word as they left the class, especially Jimin who was only a trembling mess but still managed to walk properly and leave with the rest of the students.
Well, not every student.
Hoseok is in front of Mr. Kim's desk, a troubled look in his eyes as the teacher looks up at him, eyebrow perked in question.
"Yes?"
The student doesn't say anything at first, but then gulps thickly and lets out a shakily breath, "How did you know about my trigger?"
Mr. Kim perks an eyebrow and leans back against his chair, "I know everything," he says indifferently, "You do realize that noises are everywhere, whether you like it or not."
Hoseok visible trembles today this, nodding slowly, "Yes sir I am aware. I just believe..... I can't control it."
"Well I'm not asking you to control it," The other says, sitting up on his desk now, "I'm asking you to face it. It's called healing. If you can't accept the memory or be able to take care of yourself when you go through these triggers, it will cause greater damage to your mind, making it almost impossible to face it. So that's why I want you to speak to your security guard and talk to them about it. Use that as a time to reflect."
Hoseok sinks in the words and slowly nods, keeping his head low, "You can be quite intelligent when not torturing us."
Mr. Kim sneers a grin, clashing his fingers together, "Oh I always want what's best for my students," He beams amusingly, "Now is that all you wished to speak of?"
Once Hoseok gives another nod to him, he bows and walks out the door, making Mr. Kim's smile turn much more sinisterly to the thought of the marvelous homework he assigned.
They will be facing their triggers indeed.
