Kata
"Reiji, I'm telling you I'm the girl!" Cata panted.
"Woah there, Little Bitch," Laito tossed his jacket in her face. The breeze from hit washed over Cata's body.
She looked down to see she was only wearing a silver strapless bra and matching silver panties. She blushed and covered herself in Laito's huge jacket. Cece was giggling next to him.
"Explain yourself," Reiji nudged his glasses up his nose.
Cata began telling them her dream.
"Oh!" The woman was surprised when she took the little girl home to bathe her and found out she was not a boy.
"I'm sorry about that, sweetie," the woman said, "We may need to think of a new name for you."
She started gently watching the girl. The girl cried out when the woman touched her back
"Oh dear! What happened to you!" The little girl's back looked like a battle field. Whip marks criss crossed her tiny back. As the woman's hand fell, it brushed something on her leg.
A red bloody eye stared back at the woman. Someone had branded a child! The woman fell backwards onto her butt.
The girl tried to cover herself up. She didn't want to seem like a monster to this woman who had been so nice to her. She felt tears slowly fall down her cheeks.
But instead of screaming and running away, the woman carefully enveloped the girl in her arms, avoiding the most hurt parts of her body. The girl was surprised, no one had ever hugged her before like that, but she soon retuned the hug. For once she felt safe.
Once she was clean, the woman held her up in front of a mirror. The girl did look like a boy. Her hair bad been buzzed off and dyed an odd light purple color. She was too thin from lack of food and blood and dark circles sat under her eyes. A crying eye was burned into her left thigh.
The woman bandaged her wounds and took care of her before putting her to bed. She walked back out to her husband.
"What do you plan to do with him?" The man crossed his arms.
"She's a girl, and I want to keep her."
"What? Honey we can't just pick up a girl from the street!"
The woman crossed her arms as well, "She is hurt, she needs our help! Someone clearly hurt and branded her, there's no way I can't do something to help her!"
The man shook his head disapprovingly, "Just please don't tell me you named her."
The woman walked away, "Kata."
When Cata was done, she noticed everyone was staring at her. Reiji and Michiko, Laito and Cece, Kanato and Haru, Shuu and Michiko, and Ayato and Yui... But no Subaru...
"Where's... Subaru..?" Cata asked.
Cece's eyes softened as she saw something was wrong. She walked over and hugged Cata, "He's out in the gardens. And if you ever need to tell me anything, you know where to find me."
"Wait, Cata," Reiji said, "I need to talk to you first."
Reiji beckoned Cata to follow him. Michiko hopped off the pool table to follow them but Reiji shook his head.
Cata looked out the window towards the gardens.
"Cata," Reiji snapped his fingers in her face. She jumped, bumping into a bedside table.
"I need you to focus," Cata nodded, "So you never saw the place you were being held?"
Cata shook her head.
"But you would know your way through it if we brought you there?"
Nod
"And you said it was near a town." Another nod, "What town?"
Cata told him. Reiji grimaced, "So far away..."
"Do you know if you were in a forest?"
Cata thought for a moment before nodding.
Reiji walked over to his desk and opened a drawer. He unfurled a large map of Japan on the floor.
Cata and Reiji knelt down and examined the map. Reiji pointed towards one section of Japan, "Here we are," he moves his hand to the other half of the map, "Can you point to exactly where the mansion is?"
Cata pointed to a valley nestled between two small mountains.
"Cata do you remember your parents?"
"Not very much, my mother died when I was ten. That was the first time I ran away, and I never saw much of my father after that. I left permanently just last year."
"How did you live on your own?"
"My parents were rich, so it was easy for me to 'borrow' a few credit cards and go to an ATM whenever I needed to."
"I see... And why did you run away in the first place?"
"I always had a feeling my father never wanted me around, I guess now that makes a little more sense... He would beat me sometimes, not hard, just a punch or a kick or some harsh words every now and then."
"And how did your mother die?"
Cata shrugged, her father had never told her the real reason.
"Well, how did you come up with the name Kage Catastrophe?"
"It sounded cool. Plus my name was already Kata, but I had never seen it spelled out so I assumed it was short for something awesome like that."
"Fair enough," Reiji said.
Cata walked back over to the window and looked down at the gardens. Subaru was spinning a rose in his thumb and index finger.
"You can go if you want," Reiji said without looking at her.
Cata hesitated, "Reiji, I just have one more question..."
She dropped her panties so they pooled around her ankles.
