Blood Lust Klan

"Cata, come with me," Cata followed Reiji upstairs obediently. Subaru trailed them as well.

"Lift up your skirt," Reiji instructed.

"E-excuse me?" Cat stammered.

Subaru rolled his eyes, "So be can see the scar."

"Oh, of course," Cata realized, "Sorry about that..."

"She's still jumpy from earlier," Subaru explained. He blushed a bit, "I walked in on her when she was about to take a shower."

Reiji ignored them both and walked over to his books. The red one from earlier that evening had been left open on his light blue bed. Cata lifted the edge of her skirt so Reiji could look at the mark.

Sure enough, it matched the one in his book perfectly. Reiji was shocked speechless. The Blood Lust Klan was said to have died out almost 300 years ago! So what was this girl doing with their infamous symbol burned into her left leg. He had checked her records thrice before allowing Subaru to contact her. The only thing out of the ordinary was that she used to run away from her parents a lot, presumably for attention.

"Cata, have you ever heard of the Blood Lust Klan?" Reiji asked.

Cata shook her head 'no'. Subaru had asked her the same question when he first got back to Reiji's room and showed her the book, "What are they? What does it have to do with me?"

"I was hoping you could answer the second question..." Reiji sighed and shoved his fingers through his hair.

He pushed his glasses farther up his nose, "The Blood Lust Klan is an ancient family of vampires. The last anyone heard of them, they were all hunted and killed close to 300 years ago when their horrid activities were discovered by mortals.

" They were monsters, more so than normal vampires were considered. They enjoyed their victims flayed and roasted alive, their blood boiled and made into wine. Any victims unlucky enough to survive their prisons were left broken in every sense of the word. They can always be identified by insanity and scars. And always the mark of a branding iron wrought in the shape of a crying demon eye. It's their family crest."

As he was talking, Cata had dropped her skirt back down and was staring at him in disbelief. How could she have possibly had previous dealings with an extinct family of vampires?

Reiji was confused too. None of this made any sense to him. He rubbed his temple with his forefinger and thumb. This was impossible, unless...

Subaru punched the nearest wall in frustration, making Cata jump back.

"What the hell is going on here, Reiji?" Subaru roared.

Reiji only looked at him before facing Cata, "Cata, do you know where you got that scar from."

Cata started to shake her head, but a paralyzing shiver snaked up her spine. Her vision went black.

A naked girl with flawless skin and long light brown hair that dangled near her toes hung from a concrete ceiling. Rusted chains held her arms up.

A thin line if light split the young child's face as a door was opened.

Tears slipped down her face, she knew who it was.

A smooth male voice washed over her, "Ara ara, Chocolate. Breakfast time."

"Chocolate," Cata whispered. She found herself sprawled on the floor. Subaru's hands were on her shoulders. He propped her up in his arms.

"What are you talking about?" Subaru asked softly. He had been calling her name loudly until Reiji had yelled at him to shut up.

The others had shown up about an hour ago but Subaru had sent them away. Reiji didn't want anyone to know about what was going on until he had figured it out.

Reiji paced the room and wracked his brain, "Cata, how old are you?"

"Sixteen, but I will be seventeen in a couple of months."

"So 16," Reiji mumbled, "And how old was this girl? Chocolate you said her name was? How old did she look?"

Cata shook her head, "Not Chocolate, that isn't her name, they just call her that."

"They?" Reiji stopped pacing.

"He," Cata looked down at Subaru's arms around her shoulder and corrected herself, "But she couldn't have been more than seven."

Reiji nodded, but he kept the fact she said 'they' in the back of his mind, "And how old was he?"

"Old, very very old, but he sounded young. I don't know how to explain it!" Cata buried her head in Subaru's chest.

"That's normal for vampires, but there is no way he was over 300 years old..."

Cata bit her lip. She felt Subaru brush her hair.
