Mira threw yet another outfit off. She sighed and stared into the cupboard.
"What the hell am I going to wear?"
Mira tried two more outfits before calling Rix.
"Rix. I don't know what to wear, help."
"It's so early..." His voice was groggy.
"This is a fashion emergency."
"Why?"
"Well," Mira picked up the last shirt she had tried on. "I need to look professional. But I also don't want to look lame. They're all about sex and seduction and stuff. I can't market their company if I look like a prude."
"Stop calling yourself a prude," he murmured, sighing. "Okay. Go for that black shirt you have that plunges down your neckline. Sure, it shows off your assets more than you usually would at work, but the shirt itself is pretty formal. Plus I doubt anyone there is going to be in office attire. It's a restaurant. Put some skinny jeans on and that shirt, and you'll be fine."
"That's a great idea. You're fantastic." Mira smiled.
"I know. Now stop being nervous. You're fabulous. And don't be afraid to show those assets off. You know, like wear a good bra. Give the chef something to look at."
"Whatever, going now. Thank you."
Mira threw on the outfit and bolted out of the door, coffee in hand.
She arrived to the office 5 minutes late, and was determined to stroll in like nothing happened. When she got to the door, she lifted her hand to open it when her coffee slipped, and spilled down the front of her thigh. She corrected it and swore, dammit!
With a sigh, she strolled in. She turned to walk to the managers office, when she noticed a group of people sitting at the tables. She paused as she noticed they included Ross and Jayde. Jayde noticed her and waved her over.
"Here," she gave Mira a napkin, saying nothing about the late arrival. "Nobody sits in the office. We all sit out here together and work collaboratively." She took her seat and gestured to a place at the table. Mira sat and pulled her laptop out.
"I'm not always here, so you'll work with Ross most days, but we are on the same page about most things so that shouldn't be a problem. You have the paperwork?"
"Oh, yes," Mira pulled out the stack of papers she signed.
"Great," Jayde took them. "Lets work on a checklist of the most important things to get done first and then the bigger picture things. For today let's focus on getting you set up and ready to go. Have you deleted the blog post already?"
"The blog post?"
"Yes," Jayde said, flipping a couple of pages of the paperwork signed by Mira. "It's all here. The blog post about the restaurant? You need to take it down. You've signed here." Jayde narrowed her eyes at the page. "Is that a speckle of wine?" She laughed. "Best way to sign paperwork, actually. A bit tipsy."
"Oh," Mira almost grabbed the papers back, "No, must be some kind of food or something, I drink a cranberry tea, maybe it's that-" she could feel her face reddening.
"Don't worry about it," Jayde said, chucking; "just take it down. Then we need to start on the marketing plan going forward. Let's chat about it after lunch? Gives you some time to give it some thought."
"Okay sure," Mira said, as Jayde's phone rang and she left the table to take it. Ross stood and left the table area too, leaving Mira alone.
Mira opened her blog post and stared at it. All these likes and comments, all the things people had said and were still saying... it was the most interesting thing she had written, thing post getting her the most attention. Without it she almost felt... plain. But it did the job right? She was now sitting at her place of employment with a signed contract and her bank account eagerly awaiting the income dropping at the end of the month.
She pressed the delete button.
Now for the next part, a marketing plan. Mira had studied that so long ago, she couldn't remember all too much about a successful marketing plan. Marketing oneself as a blogger and marketing a restaurant... two very different things.
'Marketing plan' she typed into google.
"Hey, can I run you up to speed on the last marketing strategy?" Ross appeared behind her, with three cappuccinos. His eyes lifted to her screen, and she quickly minimized. He looked at her and paused a moment before placing the cup down in front of her.
"Uh, uhm, yes! Yes, please." Mira smiled and Ross placed the third cup in front of Jayde's seat.
"Uh," he chuckled softly to himself, then said, "Give me ten minutes, then I'll bring you up to speed." He turned to his laptop.
Mira's face still burning, she closed the window and Googled Kiss Kiss to see what came up, see what people were saying.
"Ross," a deep voice interrupted an hour or so later. Ross and Mira both glanced up from their screens to see Ryder approach the table with a small bowl in hand. His eyes caught Mira's, and dropped to her chest. He swallowed.
Mira felt a heat bloom in her belly. A satisfied smirk prickled at her lips.
"Uhhh-" Ryder pulled his gaze to Ross, "A taste test for an idea," he murmured, placing the bowl in front of Ross. "It's a dessert idea."
Ross glanced into the bowl. Ryder glanced back at Mira. "Hello," he muttered.
Now I get a greeting? Now that my chest is on display? Typical. Mira thought.
Ross tasted the food in the bowl. "Is this the concept we discussed yesterday?"
"Yes," Ryder said, pulling his gaze back to Ross.
"I like it. Perhaps a lavender mist over it though. I loved that idea." Ross glanced at Mira. "Want to try? Ryder is working on a series of desserts based on classic cocktails."
"Sure," Mira murmured. She took her spoon and dipped it into the yellow dessert in the bowl. She brought it to her lips and an explosion of lemon and citrus bloomed across her tongue, almost making her eyes water.
"Margarita?" she asked.
Ryder's eyebrows rose.
"Yes," Ross said, smiling. "She got it straight away, you're on the right track." he said to Ryder, sliding the bowl to him.
Mira realized too late she had a spoon and the ability to lick it seductively while staring at Ryder. But by the time she had lifted the spoon back to her lips, he had turned back towards the kitchen. Still, the satisfaction to his reaction earlier had sated her.
When she looked back at Ross the spoon was still on her lips and he was frowning slightly. "You okay?" he asked.
"Oh," she dropped the spoon hurriedly, "yes, sorry."
He laughed. "He has this effect on most women," Ross said.
"What? No, there is no effect."
"Sure," he murmured. "As long as you do a good job, I don't care."
"No, no its not like that. I- " she sighed. "If I'm honest, he called me 'not the brand' and it irritated me. But I'm fine now. It won't be any kind of problem. I've let go of the whole thing."
"Clearly," he smirked. "Ryder... He's very protective of whatever his brand is, don't take it personally. Ready to talk marketing?"
"Yes, of course," she said.
