Devotion
Yeosang is stuck in a circle of violin practice, expectations, and more practice. As the son of a rich family he is expected to be pristinely behaved and polite however, he doesn't want that but he had to stay true to what his parents want.
"you need to do better!" this singular phrase raised Yeosang throughout his childhood. He was numb to it.
"you need to be the best to make me look good" another phrase that raised yeosang.
These words where from his father, a very rich man who let power get to his head and became corrupt, always competing for the best spot even if it kills his family or himself. He had people to help hold his reputation if he slips up.
But the one thing he didn't have was love in his heart. Yeosang was used to the same four walls and small bed he regularly stated at in boredom, he wasn't allowed to do anything but practice and take care of himself, the dark umber of his violin, a one in a kind, singing to his life. It became a part of him, now don't get him wrong he loved the instrument and staying on top of his gain he just... gets bored, having nothing to do but practice having all his friends leave him because he never hung out with them, he was invisible in school and although he may be anti social and shy he hated feeling like he didn't exist. It always brought him memories of having nothing but a baby raise him and those phrases being the only communication he received on his parents end.
It was a neglectful life but Yeosang was used to it, he had no need for his parents love as long as he had his nanny, an elderly women still working and taking care of Yeosang.
At this moment she walks in.
"yeosang honey, you have been enrolled in a new school" she said sadly and Yeosang scoffed.
"again?" he asked and only received a nod. This was the third time this week, his father refused to allow him to stay at a school that refused to allow yeosang to spend all day practicing rather than learning. Nothing was important to his father other than his ability to play an instrument.
"im sorry love" nanny said sadly and Yeosang smiled in return. "it's fine, I have no choice in the matter anyway, what school am I to attend to today?" Yeosang asked and nanny sighed.
"unfortunately, it seems your father has given up on public schools therefore you have been enrolled in KQ all boys academy, its a performing arts school, there's singing, dancing, martial arts, and more. There's even an orchestra for you to join without your father knowing. Other than that, the only other thing it offers is academics of all kinds" nanny examined and Yeosang nodded.
"thank you, when should I leave?" Yeosang asked staring out his window.
"you must be dressed and in the car in twenty minutes." nanny said before placing the uniform in her hands onto the bed and leaving the room.
Yeosang sighed and started changing, he added a bit of makeup to cover up his imperfections and then polished his violin and violin case before placing the instrument into the soft velvet and zipping it up.
He gently grabbed it and made his way out of his room.
(ignore faces and the actual name of the school I just really like the unform.)
Once he stepped out he closed his door behind him and walked down the hallway to the staircase. He descended the grand staircase and made his way to the large wooden doors painted a light green. He pushed open the doors and placed his shoes on before walking to the limo pulling up.
"good morning bi yu" Yeosang greeted the driver with a smile and the girl chuckled.
"get in, your backpack with all your necessities is in the back seat." she said and yeosang nodded and got in.
(just imagine this please)
Once Yeosang sat down he sighed at the elaborate interior of the limo. He leaned his head against the plush of the seat before leaning to get a drink, he only got lemonade since he was too young to drink and stared into the cup as the car started. Yeosang looked at the back seat and saw his bag. It was a plain black backpack so he wasn't to interested in finding about what's in it but he had to know for the school.
He placed his violin case on the seat besides him before he moved along them to the backpack.
Once he grabbed the bag he could feel the weight of it.
(warning more pictures sorry)
He unzipped the bag and looked confused at it. It seems from his timetable that he will be joining only a week late of his second year which was simple to understand however everything that is in here is what confuses him.
He gently pulled the things out one by one and observed each of them.
First was the obvious things, a plain lined notebook, a large purple pencil case, an array of different types of pencils, a small cup that comes with the bag and the simple instructions on how to care for the bag, he rolled his eyes at the lack of organisation but continued observing everything.
(these are gorgeous)
The less obvious thing he found was a small laptop. It was a rose gold colour and he smiled, it was the first time he had gotten something so expensive besides his violin and food.
He also saw some books with violin sheet music, those where less important to him but mentally noted he should read them. There was also a large collection of violin strings.
He saw multiple sized textbooks for regular classes alongside some workbooks he assumed was for homework. There were pocket edition dictionaries for English, mandarin, Japanese and Korean. He wouldn't need the Korean dictionary but he would keep it where it is.
There was more notebooks the same as the first however these ones where gridded and plain. He looked over it once more before deeming there was nothing he missed. He gently placed everything in except the strings as he put them in his violin case in the zipped part.
Once the bag was full and remaining by his side Yeosang finished off his drink and took out his phone he hadn't had an upgrade for three years and it was smashed beyond seable but Yeosang forced himself to cope.
The drive was excruciatingly long and when the limo finally stopped Yeosang got out and walked to bi yu, she handed him a map and he got his timetable out of his bag before he thanked her and watched her drive away.
He sighed and turned to the building it was a disgusting modern style, he hated it simply because he preferred the wood and intricate designs he grew up with. He winced before moving forward and looking at his map, he needed to get to his first class. That class was a regular class, math. He sighed for the umpteenth time today and finally managed to enter the correct hallway for his class before all he needed to do was find the number.
He walked all the way down the hallway and came across a door at the end of the hallway that has his room number on for his first class. He sucked in a deep breath before before releasing It and walking into the room, immediately being drowned by the chatting and games.
It seemed three boys in his class were popular as they were in the middle of the room with the desks moved to the side and sexily dancing for the guys who whooped and joined in. Two of them were more like dirty dancing on one another but Yeosang just shook his head and made his way to the board after seeing a piece of paper with a seating plan.
He found his name quickly and sat down in his seat. His name was freshly written on the printed paper in pen as he was a week late but it didn't seem to bother the teacher.
Yeosang placed his bag and case on the Hanger on his desk and made sure nothing would be hit by the dancing boys. He was lucky enough to have a window seat as he looked out the window until the teacher arrived.
"alright, alright, calm down. Mingi, Wooyoung put the tables back, yunho go sit down, no more grinding on mingi no matter how entertaining it must be" the teacher was a male, very feminine looking and short but he oozed dominance and authority as he commanded the boys from before.
Frustrated groans came from the three males but they did as they were told before everyone was able to sit down.
"great, now that everyone is sat I need to introduce the new student then tell you what's happening today." the man said.
"before you start hello I am Kim Hongjoong, I have no care for sir or mister so call Me hongjoong hyung" the teacher added and Yeosang nodding knowing the older was talking to him.
"alright please introduce yourself" hongjoong gestured and Yeosang stood up.
"hello I'm kang yeosang, it's a pleasure to meet you" he said with a small bow and returning to his seat. The voices around the class where talking about his last name 'kang'. Sone were good some were bad but Yeosang had learnt to not question something when there was a vivid reason for that situation. His dad was an asshole no matter what his reputation says, theres thousands of people claiming to have been scammed or being rudely treated.
Hongjoong cleared his throat to silence the class before smiling.
"alright, while I still have your attention, I want you all to know that from next week onwards you will have to join a club otherwise you will have no choice but to attend to the dorms, gardens and kitchen." he said and all the students shivered.
Hongjoong chuckled before grinning.
" other than that all I want to tell you is there's a recital for the music students and the physical arts Students, I cannot give you the task as it has been asked to be turned into a fun game." hongjoong said and students huffed or tried to get answers out of him.
" oh shove off you big babies, anyway today we will be watching a movie as we have a new student, but tomorrow we are straight back onto quadratic equations. "hongjoong said eliciting groans and whines from the students.
Yeosang was surprised he was a teacher, he looked so young and like he was still a student. Yeosang just sighed and watched the movie with a single eye.
1hr 45 minutes later
When the movie was over Yeosang sighed in relief it was absolutely boring. Just as hongjoong was about to speak the bell rang. He sighed but dismissed the students and they all left to go to their next classroom. Next was cooking. He arched an eyebrow but sighed and sat in his seat which was again on the seating plan, his neighbour was a soft looking kid he had a kitten look to him, his face was angled and sharp but his eyes and features were delicate and cute. The boys head was bigger than his lanky body but as human anatomy goes he'll eventually grow into it.
As the rest of the students entered the class a teacher followed behind, he was fairly tall, had soft brown hair up in a ponytail, despite the cute style it made him intimidating. He was lean and a little muscular and was wearing his shirt a few buttons to low but since it was an all boys school it didn't seem to be an issue.
His face was sharp and angry but as soon as he talked softness surrounded Yeosang making him almost gasp at the shock.
"hello class, please welcome our new student kang yeosang" the teacher said pointing towards Yeosang and the students who didn't know him looked at him and greeted him.
"today we will be learning cooking, last week was just an introduction to the materials as the majority of you guys come from a rich background so it was important to learn. But today we will only be learning theory. You can choose any desert you would like to make in a few days time and write down the ingredients and the step by step guide, it can either be word for word or as bullet points but make sure you get the main points like measurements and timing as well as how it should be handled.
The basic ingredients will be provided, any decoration or colours must be brought by yourselves. "the teacher said.
The soft boy next to yeosang tapped his hand." hey I'm San, the teacher is Park seonghwa, he's married professor hongjoong if you've met him. "the boy said with a small grin and Yeosang smiled and nodded.
" nice to meet you " Yeosang said before the both returned to listening to seonghwa.
" alright, you can use your phones or other devices to get information. "seonvhwa said as he sat at his desk and smiled before grabbing some assignments to mark.
Yeosang grabbed his laptop out of his bag and powered it on and searched for any decent deserts he would be able to learn how to make.
Nothing essentially appealed to him but he needed to choose something otherwise his grades would get nowhere.
After a ton of procrastinating and dead ends, Yeosang settled for a simple bear cookie, it reminded him of his childhood friend jongho who left him when he was eight due to his father getting full of himself and his reputation and so cut Yeosangs friends off.
After he found what he was looking for he quickly wrote down all the ingredients and the guide before smiling at the picture. The bell rang and seonghwa let everyone leave with a 'have a good day'.
Yeosang sighed and looked at his timetable, he saw it was now break for around twenty minutes so he wandered the halls looking at his map to find a music room so he can practice, this is a habit he picked up due to his father's overwork.
Once he finally got to the room he smiled and checked the time nodding at the time and entering the room. It was empty. He took a deep breath and set his bag down and opened his case and retrieved his violin.
"now what should I do" he muttered to himself before tilting his head and nodding.
"that'll do" he whispered and placed his violin on his neck and leant his chin on the grip.
Once he was done he sighed and smiled. It was one of the hardest pieces to do as it was not a classical song. He'd always get questioned on how he does it and all he replies is that it's practice.
He stretches his arms and rolls them before getting back into position and starting another song, he should be able to get this in before he needs to pack up.
Once he finished the music he sighed and stretched once again. He gently placed every thing back to where it was supposed to be before. He zipped up the case and quickly grabbed his bag and headed to his next glass.
He was too busy rushing so he didn't look where he was going. Soon enough he bumped into a broad chest and fell to the ground with a yell.
"gah!"
He looked up and spotted someone he thought he would never see again.
"jongho?" Yeosang gasped with wide eyes and the boy he had bumped into widened his eyes as well.
"Yeosang?" he gasped and quickly helped the older male off the floor.
"are you OK?" jongho asked and Yeosang nodded.
"I think so" Yeosang said but gasped again and checked his violin only to sigh in relief and pick everything up.
"that violin" jongho started and Yeosang looked up confused.
"I remember designing that when we were kids, I never gave it to you though so why have you got it" jongho said confused and Yeosang tilted his head.
"I found it hidden away in one of my notebooks and gave it to my father to order, I didn't know you designed it though" Yeosang said and jongho smiled.
"it's fine it was meant for you anyway" jongho answered and yeosang smiled.
The tardy bell rang and the two gasped.
"crap! Where gonna be late! We need to leave it was nice seeing you again" jongho said as he started jogging down the corridor in the opposite direction of where Yeosang was heading. Yeosang smiled and started jogging himself. He managed to make it to class just on tume and got into his seat a second before the teacher entered.
"alright class, I'm Kim namjoon your supply for today, your teacher quit due to personal reasons so until we find a replacement I will be your English teacher" the teacher said. Students greeted him and nodded before class started.
The rest of the lessons passed quickly and finally it was lunch. Yeosang sighed and opened his wallet to check what he could get. He didn't want to get the expensive foods because he didn't want to brag and so briefly skimmed the menu before moving on. The meal he got from the regular section was still expensive but it was at least a toned down version.
The dinner workers questioned why he wasn't eating the rich food and he simply said he didn't want to flaunt his riches like the other students and they smiled and decided to give him a little extra desert for free.
He tried to refuse but they insisted.
(the kang family are very well known and very rich) he in the end took the desert and found an empty table and started to eat while also skimming over his materials for class.
Since the table was huge a few people every now and then sat down to quickly eat before leaving but noone stayed long enough to converse with him until a tray snapped down on the table.
Yeosang in shock flung his head up to see jongho with a huge smile.
"hyung! Here you are! Can I sit?" jongho said and Yeosang nodded. Jongho took a seat from across Yeosang and started digging into his meal.
"so hyung why are you alone?" jongho asked with a cute tilt of his head that pulled at Yeosangs heart he truly missed the younger innocence and cuteness.
"I just got here today so I had no time to make friends, but I'm glad I found you after these years" Yeosang said with a smile and jongho grinned.
"that's great well I want you to meet my friends and two teachers who are taking care of me" jongho spoke and Yeosang nodded.
(relationships between teachers and students are not prohibited other than when it occurs sexually)
Jongho grinned once more and raised his hand in a wave. Within minutes a large group approached the table. Yeosang shifted awkwardly but allowed them to sit down on the table, the metal being almost completely covered with plates, drinks, deserts and work.
"these are my friends, this is wooyoung, San, mingi and yunho" jongho said and Yeosang nodded as he memorised their faces.
"hey! Your the new kid in our first class right?" wooyoung said and Yeosang nodded.
"cool!" the male said and yeosang tilted his head but shook away his curiosity.
"I'm Yeosang nice to meet you" he said to them and they nodded.
Two more people approached the table with smiles, Yeosang realised it was his math teacher and cooking teacher.
"I'm sure you've met them already since they take all years but these two are married and adopted me because my mom fell ill and my father ran off with his childhood sweetheart." jongho explained and Yeosang although shocked nodded and smiled at them.
"oh is our baby jongho warming up to somebody this cute." said seonghwa and within seconds his plate was on the table and his hands on Yeosangs cheeks.
"mom~" jongho whined and the male chuckled.
"alright alright sorry" the male said and yeosang giggled.
"he's my best friend from when I was a child but I had to loose contact because of his father not wanting him to loose focus on his violin practice." jongho told the two teachers and they gasped before looking at Yeosang.
"your father makes you practice so much your not allowed friends." hongjoong said with a shocked face on, Yeosang just shrunk in his seat and nodded. More gasps were heard but yeosang was blushing furiously so they pitted him and started eating. Yeosang joined them once he felt comfortable and even entered conversation. He wasn't going to give up this chance of having friends.
The end of lunch bell rang and everyone packed up and threw away their rubbish or returned their plates before walking to class. Yeosang unfortunately had pe but then after everyone left he had to stay in the music room until eight to practice before his father sends the limo to pick him up.
So he was dreading this day.
Time skip
Yeosang had just finished an hour of violin practice when someone walked in, it was already really dark as the lessons are around 1hr 30mins (with exceptions running to 2hrs) long so school didn't finish till around 6pm.
Now 7pm after an hour of practice.
The person who walked in froze at the sight of Yeosang before their face crumbled into pity.
"Yeosang?" the voice questioned and Yeosang turned around and saw seonghwa.
"hmm?" Yeosang muttered and seonghwa sighed before approaching the male.
"why are you still here?" seonghwa asked gently and Yeosang but his lip, he was frustrated and tired but he didnt want to cry.
"My father won't send the limo until eight so I have to practice, if he finds out I'm not practicing he will make me skip lessons to practice tomorrow" Yeosang said and seonghwas face caved. He was terrified for the boy but also really appalled at what the boys father was doing.
"let's get you something to drink, you must be thirsty" seonghwa said and Yeosang nodded, his fingers also hurt.
Seonghwa gently pried the violin out of Yeosangs hands and placed it into the case and took the bow(thanks for correcting me ❤️) and put it in the case as well.
He then zipped it up and grabbed the boys hands and winced when he felt his rough and bleeding hands. He must have been doing this for an hour without any breaks.
Yeosang watched the male with dull eyes, and let himself be dragged out the music room, seonghwa was holding his bag and case and was leading the male into the staffroom.
"why does your father do this?" seonghwa asked softly and Yeosang caved. He burst out into tears, years of stress, sadness and humiliation pouring through his sockets. Seonghwa gasped and embraced the student and stayed like that until he stopped. He stopped after five minutes and answered seonghwas question.
"My father only cares for his reputation, me as his 'pride and joy' was seen as a violin prodigy as I can play any song requested at a seconds notice, however no one understands the truth, no one understands how much torture I put myself through to learn every song for the violin, no one cares for my health and own wants, no one cares for my love to cover songs on a violin, I have to always be the best and get better. Everyone says I'm a legend but my father says I'm only average. I play until my hands bleed, I play until I can't move my arms the next day. I don't want this "Yeosang said another round of tears falling from his eyes. Seonghwa stroked the boys head and followed him as he collapsed to the floor. Only moving to let the boy sit in his lap and cuddle him.
Yeosang was thankful for seonghwa, letting him do this, he was stressed, touch starved and seonghwa was the only thing to unconditional love he's had in his entire life after jongho left.
After another five minutes Yeosang was falling asleep in seonghwas arms but seonghwa didn't let him sleep until he drank something.
Seonghwa offered a cup of hot chocolate and a bottle of water before letting the boy sit on the couch. After Yeosang drank the hot chocolate and had a couple sips of water he fell asleep.
Seonghwa checked the time and sighed, he opened up Yeosangs bag and tried to find something to let him know someone could come get him but there was nothing. He sighed and looked at the poor boy before closing up the bag and putting it on his shoulder and also grabbing the violin case. Seonghwa quickly checked the student documents and found Yeosangs address. He picked up the smaller male and carried him to the car after thanking a caretaker for closing up after him. Seonghwa placed his coat around the younger male and laid him in the back of his car. He texted hongjoong the situation before starting his car and driving towards Yeosangs home.
It was fairly far away and quite into the woods but luckily there was signs, lights and stores every now and then to let seonghwa know he was on the right track.
Once he pulled up to the large gate seonghwa was greeted by a security guard who took one look in his car and thanked him before letting him enter the property.
Yeosang was still asleep when seonghwa pulled to a stop and picked him up and walked up the big staircase towards the front door. He knocked three times and used the knocker before the door opened. An elderly women answered and gasped at the sight of Yeosang in the males arms. She thanked him for bringing him home before asking him to take him to bed. Seonghwa awkwardly agreed and followed the elderly lady up to Yeosangs room.
He tried not to gawk at the building but couldn't help it and received some giggles from the lady.
"so who are you to yeosang?" nanny asked and seonghwa sighed.
"I'm just his cooking teacher, I was staying behind to finish grading some papers but heard a violin and thought it was just a rebellious student messing around but when I entered the room I saw Yeosang with his hands bleeding and I approached him with questions and took him to the staff room to patch him up and give him a drink but he collapsed in tears before calming down only to cry again after giving me a reason for him staying behind. He passed out after drinking a hot hocolate and a bit of water, I couldn't find a number or anything in his bag and so I decided to bring him home myself. I told my husband what the situation was and here I am" seonghwa explained and nanny smiled
"well thank you, this boy has never been cared for a day in his life. He extremely shy and attached to me so I'm supprised he's letting you see him in his most vulnerable state.
Please could you care for him when I can't. I can't trust his father once I'm gone. I have the signed documents if you want proof, his father was drunk and ordered me to adopt him so I did however his father still has control no matter if he remembers or not. " nanny said and seonghwa smiled.
" of course, I don't mind but you still have a long way to go yet miss" seonghwa said and earned a hearty laugh from the elderly women.
"well I just needed the reassurance" nanny said with a sigh.
"ah here we are, this is the boys room, his father will be gone tomorrow and it's late almost midnight how about you stay here, you can call your husband to get you in the morning or you can go to school with Yeosang it's up to you" nanny said and seonghwa smiled.
"if it's not too much trouble" seonghwa muttered and nanny waved him off.
"no issue ill get you something to eat, there's a spare room just next to Yeosangs you can stay there, I'd rather you be close just incase something happens. When your ready please come down to the kitchen it's right below this room." nanny explained and with seonghwas nod she smiled and walked to the kitchen.
Seonghwa sighed and opened Yeosangs room and frowned at the bareness of the room but didn't dwell on it for long. He placed Yeosangs bags on the floor and gently took of the boys blazer, undid his top button and took of his shoes. He didn't want the boy to suffocate in his sleep.
He pulled a blanket over him and smiled kissing his forehead and leaving the room. He walked down to the kitchen and was greeted by nanny who handed him a plate of beef, gravy, mash and veg.
Seonghwa thanked her and started eating on the island before being handed a hot cup of coffee filled with six sugars he chuckled and thanked her again before he continued eating.
After he had finished she handed him some clothes and told him to go shower. He did so before heading to sleep.
The next morning he was greeted by Yeosang cuddled into him, he smiled and pat the males head.
"thank you for yesterday" Yeosang muttered and seonghwa just chuckled.
"no problem, now let's get ready, I'll be going to school with you in my car." seonghwa explained and Yeosang nodded.
"let's go have some breakfast" Yeosang said, he was fully dressed in a clean uniform and waited for seonghwa to wake up since he wanted to thank him.
Yeosang left the room to let seonghwa get dressed and headed to the kitchen and greeted nanny with a big bear hug which she returned wholeheartedly, soon enough seonghwa emerged in his clothes from yesterday and thanked nanny for letting him stay, he called hongjoong and asked him to bring a pair of clothes to school so he can change and Yeosang greeted hongjoong in the background earning a laugh from the tiny man.
"here, it's a quick breakfast since you need to leave soon" nanny said and the two thanked her. They finished quickly and moved to the front door, Yeosangs bags and case were handed to him by another elderly figure a male this time before he exited through the big doors that where opened for them, seonghwa headed to his car which was brought to him by a young man and he thanked him receiving his keys though he's not sure how they got it until he realised he never took them out the ignition, despite being embarrassed he smiled to yeosang who was getting into the limo and started driving once the limo did as well.
The two vehicles made their way onto school grounds before parting, seonghwa went to the staff carpark and the limo just to the gates.
Seonghwa was greeted by a hug and kiss from hongjoong as well as a pair of clothes. He thanked the shorter male and walked into school to the staff room to change in the staff bathrooms.
Once he emerged he folded his dirty clothes and put them into his locker so he can get them tonight to take them home. Hongjoong interrogated him for what it was like at the kangs but he simply said what he had done and what happened much to the disappointment of his husband.
Back to yeosang, he exited the limo and saw jongho and the others waiting for him, the plasters on his fingers earning questions which he answered truthfully before they all entered the building.
Finally Yeosang was feeling everything he missed out on. Parental love, friendship and maybe a slight crush.
He was happy he entered this school even though his father was the one who forced him here.
A lot happened in a single day and he wouldn't trade it for anything else. This time was precious to him and he will hold onto that forever.
