Boat and Necklace

Yena's POV

I sit down in a chair beside my father's as we face Miguel and Tulio. "To what do we owe the pleasure my lords?" father asks them.

"We have a request to make of you" Miguel tells him.

"Anything for the gods" father assures them.

"We need a boat" Miguel tells him.

"One large enough to carry the tribute from today" Tulio adds.

"A boat?" we ask. I thought they'd be staying longer. That I'd have more time to prepare. Does Chel know of this?

"Yeah" Tulio says nodding his head.

"Um, we really hate to be ascending so soon, but, uh, some urgent business has come up, family matters, you know, and it's just a bit..." Miguel says trailing off.

"Yeah, family" Tulio agrees.

"Badda-bing, budda-boom, you know what I mean?" Miguel asks my father.

"Oh, we expected you to be staying with us for the next thousand years" father tells them.

"Well Tzekel-Kan said you would" I state.

"Well, as we say in the spirit world, there's your plan and then, there's the gods' plan" Tulio tells us rubbing his hands together.

"Mm hm" Miguel hums in agreement.

"And our plan, uh, calls for a boat, 'cause we're gonna ascend kind of in a horizontal pattern at first" Tulio explains. Miguel chuckles and I smile. Wishing he'd laugh more. "And then we're gonna go vertical, uh, as we get further out to sea" he states.

"Hmm. To build a boat large and glorious enough, would take about a week" father tells them.

"A week? hmm?" Tulio asks not pleased.

"You could ask Tzekel-Kan" I suggest. Tulio nods his head.

"I wonder how long it'd take him to build one?" he muses out loud. Looking a Miguel.

"But for the gods, uh, three days" father tells them.

"Well, if that's the best you can do" Miguel tells him.

"Oh, perhaps if you were not burdened with so much tribute, you could leave sooner" father comments absentmindedly.

"Hmm? I like it here. Miguel?" Tulio asks as he leans back on his chair.

"Yep, yep. Three days is just fine" Miguel says leaning back. Father said he'd see to it straight away. I then go back to the temple with Miguel and Tulio. Where Chel is already looking through the mounds of gold. Tulio grabs a pair of earrings and tosses them into the air.

"No, three days is not fine" Tulio states.

"It's the best that can be done, not even Tzekel-Kan can build a boat faster and he wouldn't want too" I tell him. He sighs in defeat. He holds the earrings out to Chel.

"These are the ones" he tells her. She smiles taking them from him.

"Thank you" she says.

"Yena, for you" Miguel offering me a golden necklace with a red gemstone.

"It's beautiful" I say smiling. "Can you?" I ask gesturing to my neck. He nods his head. I turn my back to him lifting my hair. He places the necklace around my neck and clips it into place. I shiver slightly at the coolness of the necklace and the the feel of his warm fingers grazing my shoulders. "Thank you" I tell him as I give him a smile.

"You are very welcome Yena" he tells me with a smile.

"Miguel, how are we gonna keep this up for three days?" Tulio asks. Ruining our moment.

"You worry too much" Miguel tells him with a yawn.

"No, I worry exactly the right amount. You can never worry too much. We just have to lie low" Tulio tells him.

"But, Tulio, this place is amazing!" Miguel tells him.

"I could give you that tour I promised you last night" I tell him.

"Sounds good to me, I wonder what..." he starts to say.

"No! Don't even move!" Tulio shouts.

"Tulio" Miguel whines as he continues to head for the door.

"You're moving!" Tulio exclaims pointing at his feet.

"A little bit, but, just..." Miguel pleads.

"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Tulio says loudly.

"Come on" he whines.

"Stay!" Tulio stammers.

"I gotta... I... I just" Miguel says.

"Just stand there" Tulio tells him firmly. Miguel freezes on one foot. Wobbling slightly.

"For three days?" Miguel asks and falls over.

"Miguel!" I exclaim worried rushing over and help him up.

"Yes! Exactly. For three days. Don't even breathe. All right?" Tulio asks him as Miguelfixes his shirt.

"All right. We lie low" Miguel agrees as he looks at the city longingly.

"No, ah, ah, ah, ah. Promise?" Tulio asks.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right" Miguel tells him waving his hand dismissively.

"Great! Good. Okay" Tulio says smiling. As Chel appears wearing the earrings he'd given her. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to gloat over my gold" he says fingering an earring. Before heading over to a pile of gold as Chel giggles. Walking over to Miguel and I.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" she asks Miguel.

"Yeah" Miguel agrees.

"You know, you really shouldn't miss it" Chel tells him.

"She's right and I still owe you that our" I add.

"I know. But I couldn't" he says gesturing to Tulio. Who is ignoring us as he fawns over the goal.

"Go ahead. I'll cover for you both" Chel tells us.

"Come on" I say grabbing Miguel's hand. Tugging him towards the door.

"Oh, good. Thanks" Miguel says to Chel. "So, what happened to Altivo?" he asks.

"I don't know" she says and we leave. We rush downstairs as I try not to giggle. As I hear Tulio sing about being in paradise.
