Chapter 30
So guys, this is wher Yemisi's story comes to an end

Yemisi
The air was heavy with sorrow as I stood at Alessia’s grave, the earth freshly turned. The funeral had been a bittersweet affair, filled with tears and whispered memories. I had always dreamed of sharing moments with Alessia, my big sister, yet here I was, mourning her loss instead of celebrating our bond. “I wish I could have known you better,” I whispered, my voice barely audible above the soft rustle of the wind.
I turned to Ireti, who stood beside me, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “I thought we’d have more time together,” I said, trying to hold back my emotions. “She was supposed to be my protector, my guide. Now, it feels so empty.”
Ireti placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You were brave, Yemisi. You fought for her. You brought her justice.” Her words brought me a sense of solace, but the ache of loss lingered.
As we stood in silence, I thought of Sarah, who had been indicted for attempted murder and sent to a correctional center. She had lost her way, blinded by fear and loyalty to her father, but I hoped she would find a better path.
After a long moment, we turned to leave. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the cemetery, a stark contrast to the cold reality of the day. “It’s over now, right?” I asked, glancing back at the grave one last time.
“Yeah,” Ireti replied softly. “But we still have to keep going. For Alessia.”
As we made our way back to the car, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Kayode was finally released from detention, his name cleared after the truth about Mr. Bello and Mr. Austin had come to light. The police had arrested Mr. Austin as an accomplice in Mr. Bello’s crimes, and for that, I was grateful. The pieces were falling into place, but the scars remained.
Back at home, I found my mom bustling around the living room, her smile bright as she greeted us. “Yemisi! Ireti! You’re just in time. The business is booming again!” She beamed with pride, her hard work paying off after the turmoil of the past few months.
“That's amazing, Mom!” I said, my heart swelling with pride for her resilience. She had weathered the storm and emerged stronger, just like I hoped we would.
Later that evening, I sat on my bed, lost in thought. “What now?” I murmured to myself. The future seemed uncertain, yet a flicker of hope sparked within me.
“Hey,” Ireti said, popping her head into my room. “Want to help me with my math homework?”
I chuckled softly. “I thought you said you were done with that?”
“I am! But I could use a best friend to celebrate with,” she replied, grinning widely.
“Best friends, huh?” I said, feeling a warmth spread through me. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
With newfound determination, we spent the evening planning our future. We decided to start fresh in another school, in another state. It was time for a new beginning, free from the shadows of our past. We would create our own memories, away from the pain and heartache that had lingered too long.
Together, we would face the world, and nothing could hold us back
