Chapter 8
Bright, cheerful and joyful are what come to mind when thinking of a yellow rose. Yellow roses create warm feelings and provide happiness. Giving yellow roses are a way of telling someone how much you value the friendship you share.
He didn't know what the aching in his chest was, or why it seemed to kill him that she refused to open her door. He rested his head on her door for a moment, his eyes tight shut, a burning feeling behind his eyes.
He was sad and angry, at himself, at her for not hearing him out, at Laura for telling him he could use her for whatever it was he needed to distract himself. He slammed his first against the door once, an angry and broken sound escaping his lips before he stormed away.
Tom grabbed his wallet and phone to go out and get drunk. He had never experienced such thing as heartbreak, hell he didn't even know if he was heartbroken. But he sure as hell had no idea how to deal with what he was feeling right now. All the boy knew was that he needed to feel the burning sensation of liquor in his throat. Tom headed into the direction of the local pub, a place he could almost call his second home by now. He usually came here to meet new people and flirt with girls but today he wasn't there to hook up, he was there to forget what just happened. Tom was terrified - had he just lost his best friend?
He sat in an empty booth by himself, ordering beer after beer and shot after shot. Not feeling the need to even just look at girls, he told every single girl who approached him to leave him alone. Normally, he would have loved to distract himself, to take one of them home and forget whatever it was that was making him upset. But he had already done that, distracted himself with a girl and he'd lost the only one that mattered. After a while, the boy pulled out his phone, texting the boy he trusted almost as much as (Y/N): I fcksud up, im an afdhole.
Harrison had gone over to Harry's and had left for the bathroom when he heard the girls a few rooms down the hall talking and screaming. He realized that it was Laura telling them about what had happened on their date. The boy was curious about why they seemed so happy while hearing the story. He knew Tom had given a rose, knew that he had asked a girl to spend the evening with him. It struck him as odd, but he also knew Tom must have had his reasons.
Harrison would've bet his right hand that this whole Bachelor thing was over for Tom after what had happened the day before - right?
Not wanting to be nosy but also wanting to know what was going on, he made his way towards the girls room, being careful to not make a sound. From outside he could hear Laura, her voice filled with happiness.
"And then he kissed me!" was the first thing Harrison could hear and he honestly thought he couldn't trust his ears anymore. Tom wouldn't be that stupid - he wouldn't be that stupid, would he?
"We kissed like the whole way here. He was fully into me and I told him I was his and that I was going to give him everything he needed tonight and we were so close to continuing this in the living room. If this stupid fucking Bitch wouldn't have sat there interrupting us, he would've fucked me on that damn couch."
"Wait who interrupted you?"
Please don't say (Y/N), please don't say (Y/N), the boy thought to himself, though he knew before the next sentence left her lips that it was his best friend.
"(Y/N). Like she was literally tearing up and shit when she saw us and just ran -" Harrison had heard enough, he sprinted back to Harry's room grabbing his stuff before making his way over to their flat, already knowing the damage control he was going to have to do.
The boy, breathless from his run to the flat, knocked on (Y/N)'s door but he didn't hear a sound from her. When he tried to open her door it was blocked and he knew there was no way he was going to be able to talk to her. Just when he tried to figure out where Tom was, Harrison's phone buzzed in his pocket, showing a new message: I fcksud up, im an afdhole.
Harrison knew that the slurred message could only mean one thing, so he made his way over to the pub where the curled brunette boy was sitting by himself downing a shot and immediately ordering a new one. Signaling the bartender that Tom had enough, he sat next to his friend.
"Mate, come on, time to go home." Harrison patted Tom's shoulder who just shook his head.
"I- I fucked up. With (Y/N) - She hates me now.." Tom let his head fall onto the table before groaning in pain because he hit it too hard.
"Why did you do it, mate?" He wasn't going to baby his best friend about this. If he would have just listened to him a month ago, they wouldn't be in this mess now.
"I-I fucked up, Haz. I need to fix it." The boy slurred his words, not able to explain what happened.
"We should get you to bed, you can tell me tomorrow what happened." Harrison started again, trying to get the drunk boy home.
"Is she home?"
"Yeah, yeah (Y/N)'s home."
"Do you think I can fix this?" Harrison stopped, staring at Tom with a surprised expression. Drunk off his ass as he was, it didn't take Harrison long to see the pain in Tom's brown eyes. He could hear the sadness behind the drunken words, see the desperate plea in his eyes that begged to hear he could fix this, and get her back.
"Yes, but now it's time for you to sleep." Harrison paid Tom's bill before pulling his friend up from his seat and supporting him. The two of them walked home - Harrison supporting his nearly all of his friends body weight while Tom was mumbling something about how much of an asshole he is and how he needs to see (Y/N).
(Y/N) was woken up by the sound of something dropping on the floor. Tessa shot up from her place next to the girl and stood in front of the dresser she had shoved in front of her door and started barking. Not wanting to disturb Harrison, who she thought was sleeping, she pulled the dresser away from her door and let Tessa out of the room. The dog immediately sprinted off towards the living room with (Y/N) following her to see why she was freaking out like that.
"Tess, what's are you-?" The girl stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Harrison struggling to keep a clearly drunk Tom supported so he wouldn't fall on his face. Seeing Tom broke her heart, the pain all too fresh in her mind as she saw his brown curls, his lips flushed with color from the booze. Curls only 24 hours ago she was running her fingers through, lips that had been pressed against hers flushed with color for a different reason. No matter her heartache, seeing him that drunk brought out the best friend in her.
"What's going on?" (Y/N) asked, looking at Harrison, not wanting to look at the boy next to him any longer, her eyes stinging with tears.
"(Y/N)" Tom's head shot up, looking at the girl who's heart he had just broken. She locked eyes with him for a split second before shaking her head.
"Don't." She stopped him and made her way over to the two of them, dragging Tom's unsupported arm over her shoulder. She broke her own heart by just touching him, but he clearly needed help and Harrison was not able to support the boys weight himself.
"(Y/N), I-"
"Save it, Tom," the girl snapped, her arm supporting him as she stared straight ahead, eyes locked on his bedroom door.
"I have an idea about what happened, you don't have to do this, (Y/N)" Harrison said apologetically as they walked towards Tom's bedroom.
"I f-f-f-ucked u-u-p." Tom slurred his words. Not being able to even look hold his head up and look at (Y/N) because the final shots were now definitely kicking in, he let himself fall onto his bed. (Y/N) fought away the tears when she pulled off the boys shoes and jacket, her fingers brushing the skin on his arm as she pulled off the leather, and she bit back a soft sob. She'd hoped his skin would touch hers again but after that...
"(Y/N), let me do this." Harrison stopped the girl who was shaking on her whole body. Tom drifted away to sleep after Harrison had undressed him.
After the girl placed a glass of water and a pain killer on Tom's nightstand, she sat down next to Harrison who had settled down on their couch. He pulled the girl into a hug, a hug the girl needed more than anything, and being in her other best friends arms, she couldn't help but break down.
Sobs racked her body as she clung to Harrison, her tears staining his shirt and her body desperate for the comfort she sought. A small part of her wished it was Tom comforting her, apologizing, but she knew she wasn't ready to let him touch her again, and being in the arms of someone she trusted, someone who would know just what to say to make it okay until she was ready to talk to Tom.
"Wanna talk?" he asked, looking at the heart broken girl softly after her tears died down.
"I currently hate myself more than I hate him to be honest. It's not like I didn't know how Tom is and that I didn't know - didn't think that I would be just another one of his hook ups."
"Did you-?"
"- no, but we - I mean - I - I wanted to. That's what's so fucking annoying. I'm one of those stupid little girls who fall in love with their best friend who's clearly not interested and just wants to get in their pants."
Harrison took a moment to process what the girl had just said to him. He knew (Y/N) and Tom were head over heels for eachother, the events of the whole bachelor shit his mother put on were proof enough. But to hear her say the words out loud was something different entirely.
"Listen, I heard the girls talk about what happened and honestly? I have no idea what this idiot was thinking, but what I know for sure is that he's scared about losing you. You two need to talk as soon as possible and tell each other about your feeling for each other."
"He doesn't have any fucking feelings, Harrison. He fucks and leaves. He's an asshole, I knew that and I still fell for him. Stupid of me, right? Ruining a friendship for a stupid kiss."
"He loves you, (Y/N)."
"Yeah, he clearly does. You know what, I can't be bothered anymore, I really don't want to see either of you two right now. Goodnight." the girl stood up, walking over to her room, locking the door behind her.
He loves you, she kept replaying the words over and over in her head, but every time they were replaced by the images of Tom and Laura sucking off each others faces.
He loves you, He loves you. He loves you.
"Lies."
___
When Tom woke up it was 10am, he immediately felt the pain that shot through his head when he sat up. Memories from the day before played in his head. He didn't remember all of what happened after he went to the pub, but he remembered coming home with Harrison and seeing (Y/N)'s bloodshot eyes when she looked at him. The boy knew he had to fix what happened but he didn't know how to. He spotted the medicine that was lying on his nightstand and drank the glass of water, wondering why Harrison was being so nice to him when Haz was the one who had to drag his drunk ass home after breaking (Y/N)'s heart.
After taking a shower and grabbing a slice of toast he made his way over to his parent's house where he found his mother in the kitchen.
"This thing is over. Send them home." Tom stated as he sat down next to her.
"What? Tom-" Nikki started, oblivious to what had happened in her living room the night before.
"- no. Over. This shit is over! I am not doing this anymore, mum, I couldn't care less about them, just send them home. I fucked enough up." Tom let his head fall in his hands. The woman next to him clearly felt her son was close to the verge of crying, so she put an arm around the boys shoulder, pulling him into a hug.
"Tom, what happened?" Nikki asked, comforting him by running her hand through his hair.
"I'm fucking done with this. I fucked up, mum. I don't want these girls. I fucked up my perfectly fine friendship. I need all of my attention on getting my best friend back and I just want these girls out of the house by tomorrow. Please, mum."
"Tom -"
"I fell in love, okay?" He bellowed, pushing himself out of his chair, his eyes wide as he stared at his mother, fingers pulling at his curls as he screamed in frustration. " You got what you wanted! But it wasn't one of those girls who have my heart, okay? I'm in love with (Y/N) and I fucked it up, mum."
If Tom wasn't so heartbroken, Nikki would've started fireworks, because Tom had finally realized what everyone else around him knew already. Tears finally started rolling down the boys cheeks and he allowed himself to cry in his mother's arms- cry over the friendship he lost, cry over his stupidity and cry over the fact that he hurt (Y/N).
Nikki had no idea what had happened, but she knew that her son meant it when he said he wanted the girls to go and she promised him that she would tell them that he was busy today but that he needed to tell them himself that this thing was over for him. She never heard Tom say that he was in love with someone and it broke her heart to see her oldest like that. Promising the boy that everyone would suffer a heartbreak at least once in their lifetime, she managed to somehow comfort the boy to the point where the tears stopped.
The two of them talked for ages about what had happened. The woman listened to her son talk about (Y/N) with so much love in his voice, she almost started crying herself because she could only wish that the two of them would somehow figure out their relationship and that (Y/N) would be able to somehow forgive Tom.
"Honey, you need to go home, talk to her. Tell her everything you just told me. And by everything, I mean everything."
"Mum, she won't listen to me. She tells me to shut it."
"Well, you hurt her. But you have to talk anyways. Don't be an idiot and be too scared to talk about your feelings. It's okay to tell her that you love her, it's okay to be romantic, it's okay to show emotions, okay? It doesn't matter how you tell her, but please, just do it." the woman smiled at her son who hugged her goodbye and made his way over to the flat.
Arriving at the flat, Harrison was sitting on the couch, scrolling through Instagram, (Y/N) and Tessa nowhere to be seen. The girl's bedroom door was open, so he assumed that she wasn't home.
"They went for a walk." Harrison smiled at Tom who immediately turned around and ran all the way to the park where he knew he would find his two favourite girls.
After walking around the park for 10 minutes he spotted Tessa running around and catching the ball (Y/N) threw over and over again. When he was close enough, he could hear the girl's laugh and his heart sped up. He had to fix this. He had to get her back and he had to tell her that he loved her - more than anything else.
He loved her, always had, always would.
"(Y/N)," he said breathless, his voice strained, his eyes wide, and he watched with bated breath as you slowly turned around to face him.
