Kaanan felt himself falling through what felt like time and space. All he had done was close his eyes to go to sleep and now he was going through the all too familiar world of visions. Kaanan got them just about all the time; sometimes they were important, other times.......yeah, not so much.
Kaanan found himself on a very large rock; it was larger than the Ghost. In front of him was a ledge jutting out towards an open field lit up by two moons. But what caught his attention was the thin figure standing at the edge. His back was to Kaanan, but he seemed to know he was there. "Kaanan Jaris", the figure said calmly. Kaanan could tell that the voice belong to a boy. "I've been waiting for you".
"Who are you?", Kaanan asked.
"I am the conscience of one who is in need of your guidance", the boy said. He turned around and faced Kaanan. The boy had blackish blue hair, a thin face, and skin that glowed. In fact he glowed all over. But his eyes, they were continuously changing color. This puzzled Kaanan, but he pushed it aside.
"Of course people need us, that's why we go around the galaxy saving lives".
"This one is different", the boy said. "He is a force sensitive child, but has never received training. He has been alone for many years, hiding from both the empire and the rebels".
"Why?"
The boy didn't answer right away. He seemed to be focused on another subject. "He bears a secret; one that could change the course of his life if someone knew".
"Well what is it?", Kaanan asked, very curious now.
The boy sighed. "Alas, I cannot tell you. It has been decided that you shall find out for yourself".
"By who?"
"The jedi of old".
Kaanan got a feeling in the pit of his stomach that this strange boy was telling the truth. "Ok, so what's his name?"
"I can't tell you that either".
"Oh come on! Why not?"
"Because you yourself need to start trusting the force like you did as a padawan. I know you try to forget your past, but do not forget what your master taught you". The boy grinned slyly. "You're gonna need it for what's ahead".
"And I'm guessing you won't tell me that either".
"Nope".
"Arg! Can't you tell me anything?"
The boy paused for a moment. "Actually yes, there is something I could tell you. When you find this person, you need to show him the love and kindness he lost many years ago. You must be a father figure to him and your crew must accept him for who he is".
Kaanan took this in. He remembered wanting to be a father many years ago; before he joined the rebellion. But with all the traveling and the fighting going on, he didn't think it was a good idea. "But why me?"
"Let's just say you'll need him as much as he needs you. You'll both help each other change into the mature jedi you need to be".
"Hang on, who said I was immature?"
"A few masters that are at peace. Mainly Qui-Gon Jinn and Luminara. You know, you could do alot better with your anger management".
"Alright, alright I get it. He'll teach me and I'll teach him".
"Great, now your getting it". The boy looked at the moons. "I must go. In reality, the sun is just rising over the horizon. And that means we must part".
"Alright. Oh, wait!"
"Yes?"
"When will I find him?"
The boy flashed his mischievous smile at Kaanan. "Soon. Very soon".
The boy's glow got brighter until it blinded Kaanan. When he opened his eyes he was back in his bedroom. The ship was sailing smoothly; meaning Hera was piloting.
Kaanan sat up. He felt ready to start the mission. "I just hope the crew doesn't mind taking on another member", he muttered to himself. He knew Hera would be delighted, Sabine would say it depends on how they behave, Chopper wouldn't care much, but Zeb would. Oh well, he'll just have to deal with it.
Kaanan was about to leave the room when a thought struck him. "Where am I going to find him?"
"You have to start trusting the force like you did as a padawan", the boy's words rang in his head. Kaanan sighed as he exited the room. I'll just have to have the force tell me when we land, he thought to himself, and went into cockpit to tell Hera what they had to do.
