Dev did not know for how long had he slept in an awkward position, he had settled besides Sonakshi resting his back against the wall with his hand on her head, Asha was outside the ward in the waiting room where a bed had been provided for her to take rest as only one person was allowed inside the ward. Though Dev had insisted her to go home and take rest she would have none of it, she would wake up every half-an-hour to check if everything was fine or did either of Dev and Sonakshi need anything.

Dev suddenly felt a movement as his sleep broke, he quickly opened his eyes only to see Sonakshi's left hand on his stomach as she nuzzled her face against his body in her slumber, a smile tugged on his face as he held her head and kept it on his lap and caressed it when he heard a mumble, he bent down to hear her "Please don't leave me Dev, Mujhey choddkey matt jana Dev...matt jana..." she mumbled against his body in her sleepy state "Never Sona...never will I leave you...only death can do us apart...nothing else" he said caressing her hair as she snored lightly indicating that she was in deep sleep as Dev rested his head and back against the wall, he rubbed his neck to reduce the pain due to the awkward position he had slept in while his thoughts went back to that fateful day, the day which had created havoc in their peaceful and happy life.

Dev and Sonakshi were in the Doctor's cabin the day after the miscarriage had happened. The previous night after Sonakshi's breakdown Dev informed both their families that they would spend the night outside as they were going to attend a party on the outskirts of Delhi and hence would return only the next day. He did not want to inform about the happenings of the day to their families just yet, especially given that Dr. Iyer had informed him about the tests she had conducted, and he was not sure what else waited for them. Sonakshi was discharged in the morning and right now they were sitting in the Doctor's waiting impatiently for the test results just as the cabin door opened and Dr. Meenakshi Iyer walked in.

"Good morning Sonakshi, Good morning Mr. Dixit" she greeted them as they wished her back while she settled down on her chair, looking at Sonakshi she said "Sonakshi, how are you doing now?" as she replied "I am fine Meena" addressing her with the shortened name as Dr. Iyer let out a small smile while the sadness on Dev and Sonakshi's face was clearly visible as she took a deep breathe, she had handled such cases before but seldom did those cases involve her close ones and this was one such case, Sonakshi was a good friend of her and she needed to handle this very carefully.

"Sonakshi, Mr. Dixit I have gone through Sonakshi's reports. As you both already know that the miscarriage happened due to the weak uterus but there's something more which I want to inform you" she said as Dev and Sonakshi looked at her with bated breath, a fear gripping their heart as Dr. Iyer continued "I know it will difficult for you both but as a doctor I cannot hide anything from you. Sonakshi...there is a very low chance for you to get pregnant. In fact, it's just 7%" she said as the earth slipped from underneath their feet, the stunned look on their faces showed the affect the news was having on them. Dev quickly took Sonakshi into a hug as tears made way from her eyes while Dev was trying to control his tears.

"Dr. Iyer, are you sure?" asked Dev as she nodded her head in affirmation while Sonakshi's tears didn't refuse to cease while Dr. Iyer kept quiet allowing both to calm down, after a few moments Sonakshi raised her head as she asked "Meena, Does that mean I can never become a mother?" as Meena looked at her sadly while she spoke "Sonakshi, see I will be very honest. Yes, there is some treatment that you can undergo which might help you sustain the pregnancy, but the chances of it are very low. Say about 25% but even then, there will be complications for your health and those will be life threatening" she said as Dev tightened his hug while Sonakshi just cried while Dev said "We are not doing any treatment Dr. Iyer" he said with a finality in his voice, he could never think of putting Sonakshi's life at risk just because of their want of a child.

Dr. Iyer got up and went towards them as she settled on the chair near Sonakshi, taking her hand into hers she said "Look Sonakshi, as a Doctor I will leave the decision to you both but as a friend I will advice you not to undergo the treatment" she said as her words dawned onto Sonakshi, her words relayed to her that the hopes of her becoming a mother were next to none. Dev just got up with Sonakshi still in her hold as Dr. Iyer said "Take of her Dev" she said using his first name as they left while finally tears made way of Dr. Meenakshi Iyer's eyes.

An hour later Dev walked into Ishwari Niwas with Sonakshi, she had her head on his shoulder while he wound his left arm around her for support. While leaving the hospital he had informed Asha and Bijoy to be at Ishwari Niwas as he wanted to inform both the families about the situation together but more importantly he wanted Asha to be with Sonakshi to support her and give her the strength. Though Ishwari's relation with Sonakshi was more like that of a mother & daughter now than a mother-in-law & daughter-in-law after their marriage still he was unsure about Ishwari's reaction on the news about Sonakshi's pregnancy. Though the Bose family was initially surprised they agreed to his request and had reached Ishwari Niwas a few minutes prior to Dev and Sonakshi's arrival at the house. The sisters were away from the house engaged in their respective works.

As they walked in to the living room the elders got up from the sofa, they had a stunned look on their face looking at Sonakshi who looked pale and morose, the morose look mirrored on Dev's face as well. Asha quickly made her way towards them as she asked Dev "Dev, Kya hua Sona ko? Ye itni kamzoor kyun lag rahi hai? Sona..beta...kya hua tujhey?" she asked but there was no response from Sonakshi, she just laid her head on Dev's shoulder just as Ishwari added "Haan Dev...Kya hua Sonakshi ko? Tum dono toh kal raat kisi party main gaye they naa? Toh phir achanak kya hua isey beta?" she asked as Dev replied "Batata hoon Maa, pehle Sonakshi ko kamrey main leke chaltey hai, isey aaram ki zaroorat hai" he said as they agreed and moved to their room.

Dev made Sonakshi lie, she had not spoken a word and just stared into oblivion. As Asha sat beside her caressing her hair as Dev got up "Dev, Ab batao Sona ko kya hua beta?" asked Bijoy getting restless while Asha and Ishwari looked at him "Hum kal raat ko party main nahi gaye they Baba" he said slowly while Bijoy replied hastily "Party main nahi gaye they? Toh phir kahan they tum log?" he asked as Dev replied in a low voice "Hum hospital main they" leaving everyone flabbergasted. "Hospital main? Magar kyun? Dev saaf saaf bata baat kya hai?" asked Ishwari impatiently, all this while Asha just kept looking at Sonakshi, her motherly instincts told her that something terrible might have happened as a cold fear gripped her heart.

Dev sighed as he looked at Ishwari, tears which he was trying to control made way from his eyes making Ishwari panicky as she approached him "Dev, baat kya hai beta. Tu ro kyun raha hai?" she asked as Dev hugged her as he sobbed violently, finally breaking down. Right from the time he had come to know about the loss of their child he had tried to keep himself strong in front of Sonakshi lest she breaks down but now in front of his mother he let go, hearing Dev's sobs Sonakshi who was lying on the bed turned her face towards his direction as silent tears made way from her eyes as well. To say that everyone was stunned would have been an understatement at that moment.

"Dev...Sona...Beta kya hua? Tum dono ro kyun rahey ho?" asked Bijoy in a panicked tone as Dev who was still hugging Ishwari spoke "Humara bacha Maa...Humara bacha... iss duniya main aaney se pehley hi humey chodkey chaley gaya Maa...chaley gaya wo..." he finally said as everyone was shocked into silence. There was a deathly silence as the only sound were that of Dev and Sonakshi's cries.

"Humney apna bacha kho diya Maa" finally Sonakshi spoke to Asha who just hugged her and was caressing her back trying to calm her down while Ishwari was trying to calm Dev down. After a few moments their sobs died down a bit as they were made to drink water by their mothers as Dev sat down on the bed.

"Dev...Sona...ye sab kaisey hua beta?" asked Asha as Dev replayed the happenings of the previous day along with the news about Sonakshi's pregnancy complications as once again there was a stunned silence that filled the room. Never had they expected their children to be thrown in such a quagmire in their young married life.

"Main Maa nahi bann sakti Maa...main kabhi Maa nahi bann sakti" sobbed Sonakshi as Asha tried to calm her down just as Ishwari got up and sat beside Sonakshi who hugged her as she spoke "I am sorry Maa...I am sorry...main kabhi Aapko potey poti ka sukh nahi de sakti...mujhey maaf kar dijiye Maa...maaf kar dijiye mujhey" she cried as Ishwari hugged her as she spoke "Sona....beta...shaant ho jaa beta...ismey teri kya galti hai...shaant ho jaa beta...Iss waqt tujhey bass apna khayal rakhna hai beta. Aur kisney kaha ki tu Maa nahi bann sakti. Doctor ne kaha hai naa ki umeed hai, toh aisey matt soch beta...shant ho jaa" she said, being a mother herself, she knew the pain Sonakshi was going through. Asha's eyes were glistening with tears as she looked at Ishwari and Sonakshi, while on one side her heart cried for her daughter's plight on the other hand she was happy to see the relationship of her daughter with Ishwari come a long way.

On the other side Bijoy was consoling Dev "Dev beta...main samajh sakta hoon tum par iss waqt tum parr kya guzar rahi hai lekin iss waqt tum dono ko apney aap ko sambhalna hoga beta...Dekho zindagi main toh aisey kai utaar chadav aatey hai lekin hum jeena toh nahi chodtey naa" he said as Ishwari added "Dev...Bijoy bhai sahab sahi keh rahey hai beta, iss waqt tum dono ko himmat nahi harna hai...Tum dono ko ek doosrey kaa sahara bann na hai beta" she said as Dev calmed down while Sonakshi was sobbing lightly. After a few moments Dev regained his control as he went and hugged Sonakshi while the elders left leaving the two alone for some time. Dev made Sonakshi sleep as she was still weak due to the medicines, tugging her into the bed he came down where the elders consoled him once again and asked him to not lose hope. Dev requested Asha to stay at Ishwari Niwas for few days which she accepted knowing the situation her daughter was in.

Slowly things began falling back to normal. The sisters were informed about the happenings which stunned them to no end but then they did everything possible to sheer up a disconsolate Sonakshi and Dev. Asha had gone back to the Bose house after a week while Sonakshi joined back her work after 10 days of the incident. Dev was happy that Sonakshi was slowly coming out of the trauma and Ishwari was happy to see her kids returning to their routine normal life, but just when things seem to go fine DESTINY decided to test their love once again and threw a curved ball at them.

It was a Friday evening when Dev had just returned home but as he entered his room he was left speechless as he saw Sonakshi packing her bags "Sonakshi, ye sab kya hai? Kahan jaa rahi ho tum?" he asked hastily as she coldly replied "MAIN APNEY GHAR JAA RAHI HOON DEV, NAHI REH SAKTI HOON MAIN ISS GHAR MAIN, DUM GHUT TA HAI MERA YAHAN" she said leaving Dev flabbergasted.

"Kya soch rahey ho Dev?" asked Asha, bringing Dev out of his thoughts as he looked at her "Kuch nahi Maa" he said as Asha replied caressing his hair "Zyada chinta matt karo Dev, sab theek ho jayega" she said as Dev let out a small smile while Asha continued "Ab tum jaakey thoda der rest kar lo" she said as Dev replied "Nahi Maa Mai.." but before he could continue Asha interrupted him " Main kuch nahi sunn na chahti Dev, Dekho tumhey agar Sona ka khayal rakhna hai toh tumhey apney health khayal rakhna hoga naa, jao jaakey thoda der so jao" she said though she knew with Sonakshi in such a condition, seeing no other way Dev left as Asha stayed with Sonakshi for the rest of the night

The next morning Sonakshi got up from her slumber only to find Asha sitting on the stool with her head on the bed, she slowly tried recalling the events which landed her at the hospital as she slowly called her out "Maa..." as Asha woke up "Sona...kaisi hai beta ab tu?" she asked as Sonakshi nodded her head to gesture that she was fine just as the ward door opened and Dev walked in as a smile formed on Sonakshi's lips which neither Dev nor Asha missed but the next moment the smile on her face was replaced with a frown.

"Tum...Tum yahan kyun aaye ho. Chaley jao yahan se, mujhey tumhara chehra nahi dekhna" she said brusquely as Asha was about to scold her but before she could speak Dev interrupted"Just keep quiet Mrs. Dixit" he said with a smirk and moved closer to her and kept his finger on her lips as her breathe hitched at his touch, Asha meanwhile had a small smile playing on her lips as Dev spoke.

"JUST KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT Mrs.DIXIT, ELSE I KNOW OTHER WAYS TO KEEP IT SHUT AND BELIEVE ME YOU WILL REGRET IT IF I DO THAT BEFORE YOUR MOM"
