Part 1.5: Tunisian Crochet
Tunisian crochet, also known as Afghan crochet, is a type of crochet that combines techniques of both knitting and crochet to create a durable and elastic fabric. Tunisian crochet uses a large amount of yarn and a different type of hook. It also holds the secret of how to do the stockinette stitch so commonly seen in knitting with a crochet hook.
There are a few things that you need to know about Tunisian crochet before you begin:
- Unlike standard crochet, Tunisian crochet does not use the "chain and turn" technique at the end of the row. Instead, you work right to left on the first row, then left to right on the next, and so on.
- You use a long crochet hook called an afghan hook to work this type of crochet. The length of the hook determines the maximum width of the piece. All other hook information can be found under "Hooks 101".
- There are four Tunisian stitches: the basic stitch (simple stitch in UK), Tunisian stocking stitch, Tunisian purl stitch and Tunisian cross-stitch. To make each stitch, you insert your hook into a different part of each stitch.

That's all I have to say for the introduction. I'll be posting chapters soon, though they could be slow because of school starting for me. Stay tuned!
