Roses are red. Violets are blue. If you were a flower, I'd pick you too

How long have you been stuck inside the biodome now? It feels like forever with how many times the monster puts you down for a nap. You want to slap it down as some sort of attachment or touch starvation by the way he is always holding or petting you; however, he always kills whatever or whoever he gets a hold of so even that isn't a solid deduction.

The times he isn't holding you, he lets you walk around the biodome, which is what you are doing now. He wouldn't let you go too far at first, always stopping you withing arms reach. Today, though, he lets you travel as far as the complete opposite side of the dome. You were hesitant to try and put such a distance between you two, worried that he was channeling some form of hunting instinct.

Instead, he gave you a gentle smile, as gentle looking as someone of his caliber could muster, and an encouraging push, forcing you to start your walk. You would have made a run for the door, but you've tried that time and time again, even when he sleeps you try. He catches you every single time and all it results in is nap time.

So here you sit, quite a bit away from the plant, back pressed against the dome wall, hunched into a ball. You know that in the end, you would have to return to the beast as you couldn't survive without the food he supplied, cause lord knows the head honcho upstairs isn't taking care of you.

Sure, they still feed the plant man, throwing in all kinds of animal carcasses, which he pulls underground to absorb nutrients, but feeding you is a no go for them. You're thankful they aren't cruel enough to send in anymore people to feed it for their research, yet they are just cruel enough to let you starve.

The creature, however, wouldn't let you go hungry though. That sweet smelling nectar that he produces? Yeah, he feeds you that. The first feeding that you can remember didn't start out so smooth.

It was the night of your first slumber party in the dome. The first time you had awoken after it had eaten Sasha. You woke up, lying in vine like hammock that was gently rocking you back and forth, the plant seemingly closed up for the night. You look down and notice you aren't far from the ground, so you silently slid off your 'bed' and started to tip toe back to the dome's door.

It was going so well; twenty more steps and you would have made it back to the safety of the lab. Your stomach had other plans for you though. It decided that now, even amidst your fear, was the perfect time to let you know that it had been a while since you'd given it any food.

It was loud, even for you, but you didn't think that that alone was loud enough to wake him up!

The moment you heard the dreadful noise of him blooming, you bolted for the door. He was faster, he is always faster. One moment your hand is grazing the door, the one thing to put a barrier between you and the carnivore, the next, you are bundled up and cradled in his arms, cooing to you in that same strange language.

You knew what was coming next, another sleep session, never mind you just waking up from one. However, while he was loving on you, your stomach made its noise again, seemingly startling your holder. He stared at you quizzically, tilting his head at the sound and lifting you closer to his face. Again, your stomach spoke, and his curious gaze shifts to one of amusement and understanding while letting out a noise of his own that resembled that of laughter.

He rubs your stomach with the tip of his finger for a moment before taking it away and dipping it in the nectar that surrounds him. He pulls his hand back, one claw full of the sweet-smelling stuff and places it before your face, wanting you to consume the liquid.

Of course, you didn't drink it!

You shoved at the hand making it spill the nectar all over you. You were expecting him to become angry with you for refusing him constantly and making a mess, instead you're met with, once again, an amused expression painted on his face.

Another coo sounds out before he is bringing his has face in close to nuzzle his nose to your grumbling stomach. It would almost seem comforting, if not for his size, his sharp razor teeth that is too close to your person, or for the fact that he is a man-eater.

His tongue slipped from his mouth to slide along the mess covering you, either cleaning you of the liquid or just trying to see if you tasted good. You push and shove to get away from him and his mouth, but it did you no good. He could easily ignore your useless fidgeting, though with the size difference, it isn't hard to ignore your movements.

He finally pulls his face back some, his long, slimy tongue slithering back into his mouth as he smiles down at you. Then that stupid sugary sweet scent formed in the air again. It wasn't as strong as it usually was, only enough to really daze you. You think that this is what it must feel like to be high.

You don't remember how he got you to drink the stuff, but you know you must have because afterwards, when he laid you back down and you became more aware, you realized you weren't hungry anymore.

The next two or three feedings are just like the last one. You gave up fighting him, it's not like you would ever win against him anyway. Once you stopped struggling with him, he became more relaxed with you. and as far as water goes, the biodome has a 'river' that goes from one side of the room to the other and an underground watering system really.

It helps to keep the plants green and hydrated along with the sprinklers at the top. The sprinklers acted as rain to cover the whole dome, which you have also experienced. And again, you were taken care of and shielded thanks to the plant man.

You pick up a stone and skit it across the water. It feels like you've been in here for years with how quick your forced to reach exhaustion, whether it be from playtime, your struggling, or the sweet-smelling induced naps.

It feels good to be away from the monster, he was really starting to suffocate you. Oh, how you would love to get out of here, especially since you know how this will end. He's going to eventually eat you; he prefers human meat over dead animals and soon you'll be seen as food and no longer entertainment.

You grab another little stone and skip it as well. 'How long is he going to let me be this far away from him?' You wonder. Then you begin to think hopefully that by some chance you really are too far for him to reach you. that you can hold off from the beast as long as you want.

The thought of such hope is paused by a painfully familiar noise; the sounds of breaking branches fill your ears. You watch as vines come from the foliage, creeping along the ground and in the trees. You aren't scared of being retrieved, but you fear being too close to it again so soon. There is no way you would ever get use to the things affection when you know it will devour you at some point.

You brace yourself for the grab, hating the fact that your peace is over, and you'll soon be back in his 'loving' embrace. The creeping tendril slithers along but suddenly stops ten feet from your person. You stare at it, thinking, hoping that this was its limit. You watch curiously as it curls back and forth in a 'come here' fashion, and even though he can't see you, you shake your head 'no'. If he can't see reach you, you would stay here for as long as you could.

After about a minute or two of it trying to coax you toward it, it pulls back. Is he giving up? That fast? You become suspicious of what he was trying until you notice a fog form in the dome, which is strange since the lab didn't have that function. That's when a realization hit you.

Smoke.

The smoke function is back up and running. It's failure in the past is what lead up to your current situation, so why is it working now? You slowly make your way back to the plant man, somewhat preferring him instead of your boss or Sean...mainly Sean. You don't want to run back, but at the same time, now would be the best chance at escape if Sean isn't there.

You're feeling very conflicted about what to do, but that instantly vanishes when you enter the clearing. There, at the door, is Dylan peering into the room. You want to cry at seeing his face as you start making your way towards him, but then freeze.

Your gaze drifts to the plant, waiting for some form of movement from his closed-up bud. Freedom felt so close, yet you refused to believe it was yours. You knew that if you made a break for it, you would make it, but your past attempts had always been thwarted and it made you doubt this being real. It felt like a cruel joke, however, when Dylan sees you, he starts waving his arms like crazy, signaling you over and it breaks your thoughts of this being a dream.

You look at him, then back to the plant man as you cautiously cross the clearing. Every step you take sounds deafening to you, no matter how quiet you are, you're still loud enough for him to hear. You keep your eyes on the beast, watching him as you close the distance between you and Dylan.

Once the two of you are within arm's reach, Dylan grabs you and hauls you into the lab. The doors close with a low hiss, but it seemed so loud this time. Your eyes still stayed glued to the plant, just waiting for him to bloom and show his true colors once again. You were so focused on the bud; you didn't register Dylan talking to you until you feel him gently shake you. You wobble back and forth before finally facing your friend.

"Y/n, snap out of it! You're free, you're safe!" he tries to comfort you, hugging you to his person tightly. It takes you a moment before you finally get a grip and realize that you are, indeed, out of the dome. Tears of relief roll down your cheeks as you wrap your own arms around Dylan and return his hug with the same force.

Your eyes trail up the wall to the calendar hanging and though your eyes are blurred with tears, you can still make out the date. You count the numbers and realize, with horror, that you had been in that dome for nine days. It might not sound like a lot, but it felt like you were in there for longer. Nine days, nearly two weeks. You used to hate the sterile smell the lab has, but you are so grateful to smell it than the sweet scent the flower produced.

"Shhh, it's okay now. It's all over." Dylan whispers, one hand coming to caress the back of your head, carding his fingers through your hair in a soothing manner. "I'm sorry it took so long to get you out. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to stop the smoke machine, but I got it working again." Dylan says as he leans back and uses the pads of his thumbs to brush away your tears. Your poor face is so puffy from all the crying, eyes red with tear streaks staining your cheeks. Yet, despite all that, he still thought you were the most beautiful girl in the whole world.

And though he wanted to comfort you, to help you calm down more, Dylan knew time was not on their side. "We have to get you out of here before anyone realizes you are no longer in the biodome. I have a trusted friend that can get you out without any evidence of you leaving. He's in the tech department and can hide the footage of the last hour so we need to move fast." With that, your hand tangles with his and you are pulled out of the lab and into the hallway.

**

The two of you are constantly redirected thanks to the military still walking about along with avoiding your other coworkers. No one else knows what has happened with you and the plant, and though you want to talk to them and tell them what's happening, you're worried of the consequences. Everyone could be placed under lockdown or worse. Besides, if you did stop to talk, word would get around before you could leave the building and the chance that your boss or Sean knowing of your escape would be greater.

Dylan further explained that the camera currently is being fed a loop, but he is only able to do that for an hour. He prefers only having to loop for thirty minutes, as the longer it's like this, the more likely it is to be caught. So, the sooner you leave, the better your chances of never going back inside the dome will be. You are close to the exit, that tunnel vision setting in where all you can see is your freedom.

Dylan quickly pulls you into one of the many supply closets, your mind clearing by being jarred from your excitement. You're stunned for a moment before finding your voice.

"What the hell? Why did you do that?" You want to shout at him but keep it down since you are still in the danger zone.

"The door. Ever since you've been in the dome, security has been heightened. That being said, we have security at the exits now, monitoring everyone as they come and go."

"Well, that's fine and dandy, but how do we get out?" you ask with a growl. You don't mean to be snarky; you know you aren't the only prisoner here, but you're the only one forced to stay within eating distance of a carnivore who has a craving for human flesh, of which that you are made!

Dylan holds out a walkie talkie and explains, "The guards each have one of these set to certain stations corresponding to their sections. I'll just call him over to a different spot and when he leaves, we get you out. Simple and easy."

'Yeah, sure, easy peasy.' You think sarcastically. Nothing is ever that simple.

He gives you a confident grin and clicks the call button, however, he quickly let's go, dropping the walkie when the whole ground shakes with a violent tremor. Accompanied by the quake is the sound of an inhuman, blood curdling screeching; like a mother who can't find their beloved child. In your case though, a master who can't find their pet.

The pounding of feet filtered the hall, right past the closet you and Dylan are currently in. Screaming and shouts ring out and curses fly as the sounds of banging against the walls were then heard. Several rounds of gunfire booming out loud. Oh god, what is happening out there?!

You two wait and hold off for a good fifteen minutes, the voices long gone and in place is an eerie silence. Dylan puts a finger to his lips in a shushing motion as he peaks his head out and down the corridor.

It was a mess. Papers and desks and chairs where strown about, the walls having dents of all shapes and sizes. Holes littered the walls and ceiling, most likely from the gunshots. On top of the wreckage, everyone was gone. Not a single person was in sight, not even the guard at the door.

Dylan grabs your hand, pulls you out, and runs with you to the exit. You ram into it, expecting it to fly open, but it barely opens. Dylan tries to help you push it open, but no matter how hard you try, how much you slammed to get to your freedom, it just wouldn't budge.

"Um, Y/n?" You look at your friend who happens to be staring at the glass ceiling. You look up and sudden terror and panic fills your body. Vines, hundreds of vines spiderwebbing up the building, covering the sunlight and casting the room in a dim darkness. That must be what is blocking the door as well! How are you to get out now?

Another wail sounded throughout the whole facility, somehow more horrifying than the last. The screech is followed by the sound of glass cracking, the sunroof above you, and it has you and Dylan running back the way you came. There are other exits, one of them must be open, there has to be!

However, every turn you took, any crawl space the two of you can fit in is blocked by foliage. The only place left is the roof, but the ceiling in the sunroom is covered, so the whole roof must be by now. And as the two of you ran, it didn't escape you that you didn't see anyone, not a soul. There were blood splatters here and there, but no bodies.

Another rumble came from the ground, and it sent you and Dylan tumbling to the floor. You stayed down and waited for the tremors to stop and when it did, a new sound formed. It was a quiet whisper, then it got louder, the sound of something being dragged along the ground. A sound you are all too familiar with too. Looking in the direction of the noise confirms your fear. Those stupid f*cking vines are creeping along the hall, covering the floor and the walls as they slide.

You tap Dylan on the shoulder, and he turns to see what you are looking at this time.

"What the hell?"

"No time to wonder, it's exactly what you think! We need to run!" You shout and, once again, you two are running. And just like finding an exit, every direction you ran it was blocked as well. And as you flee down the corridors, one thing was becoming clear. He's corralling you; herding you back to that damn lab.

It's not like you have a choice but to go there since any opening is closed off. The only good thing about that is the smoke machine; you could press the button again, lay something heavy on it so you can maybe suffocate the monster. Which begs the question, he's smart, smart enough to know how the smoke works by now, so why not just grab the two of you and just forcefully bring you back?

Screams are soon heard and the closer you get to the lab, the louder it gets and as you round the corner, your nose is suddenly filled with a thick metallic smell, and you can only guess what was happening. And upon entering, your thoughts are confirmed. There, in the biodome, is everyone that works in the building. All of them are strung, some still alive and fighting their bindings, others hanging dead with missing heads or crushed bodies, and some being viciously torn apart and devoured.

And looking at them made you feel guilty. Maybe you should have told them, maybe you should have caused a scene when you got out, but you only feared your boss and Sean at that moment. To you, the plant wasn't a threat so long as he was in the dome and behind the reinforced, bullet proof glass. He isn't a bullet though, he's so much worse.

The dome itself has also changed somehow. The plants you used to care for are no longer there or if they are, they are covered up by the new plants. Giant mushrooms, spotted bulbs along the ground, and speaking of ground, instead of the flat land it was, it's been broken up and created into hills. It didn't look like the biodome anymore, more like something out of a story book. How could the environment change that fast?

Finally, you slowly look at the carnivorous plant and take note of the more aggressive features as well as his stance appearing hostile. He's a bit bigger now, with thorns coming out all over his body. The barbs littered his arms and down his spine. The bud that holds his more human form is also covered in some needle thin bristles kind of making it look more like a cactus. That's when you notice the bottom of the flower that was once in the ground is now sitting off the ground with the roots holding it up, it almost looks like spider legs.

"F*ck! What the ever-living f*ck?!" Dylan shouts and startles you out of your staring. "We're going to die, there isn't anywhere to go from here! Why did those f*ckers even bring the thing here? Should have studied it more where it came from than to just drop it off here."

You glance at the smoke duct, but it too was taken out via vines. You curse to yourself, knowing that if you don't come up with a plan, everyone here will die. You don't have a lot of time to strategize, he will figure out you are in the room soon enough. You pace back and forth, and you can see Dylan having a mental breakdown. Come on, think, think, think....think.

Then an idea hits you, it hits you like a train and you felt so stupid that you didn't think of it before. A small smile of hope forms as you begin to rummage through all the desk and table drawers. You know you have at least one in here somewhere, it's a lab after all.

"What are you doing?" Dylan asks, finally snapping out of his meltdown.

"What is our biodome? What does it consist of?" You ask, confidence high in your tone as you continue your search.

"Um, plants?" He asks, almost unsure. You can tell he doesn't know where you're going with this, and you find a slight humor to it.

"Exactly! And our monster is a plant, so that means...?" You hint again, but he just stares at you, unamused. "He is flammable! We can set him on fire! If smoke makes him uncomfortable, what do you think the fire will do?" That's when you find the two lighters that you use for the Bunsen burner. It's not big, but mixed with other chemicals, you can create a big enough fire to combat the monster to escape as well as save your coworkers.

You look all around, praying that you'll find liquid gas instead of propane gas. You want a controlled fire, not a wild one. All the while you search for everything you need; you can't block out the screams of fear and pain that's ringing out. If you survive this, you know you will need therapy.

Then you found it, a small gas canaster and luckily for you, it's full. Now you just have to get close enough to him to scatter it around him, but how? He's pretty handsy and you're sure that as soon as he sees you, that will be the end of it.

Then you look at Dylan, and you know he knows what you are thinking. He shakes his head and moves away from you. "No, we are not going in there, I am not going in there." He states with a tone of finality.

"We don't really have a choice. We are stuck in here and judging by the groaning of that door, we don't have much time before we are forced to go in the dome anyway." As if to help emphasize the urgency, a bang came from the hall of the closed lab door. You can even see the tempered glass frame bowing from the force, the vines squirming like snakes against it. It won't be much longer before those come in and take you to the plant. It's the only shot you have, otherwise everyone is doomed.

Which also begs the question, do those have a mind of their own? The master seems to be occupied with devouring the flesh of humans, so they have free will over their own, uh, body? You shake your mind off these thoughts and get focused.

"I'll distract him, the odds of him seeing you when I'm in there is slim to none. All you have to do is get the gas around the base of the flower. Then we light him up like the Fourth of July." You try to reassure him, but you can tell it isn't working.

"What if this fails? What if things don't go like we planned? We piss him off and he just kills everyone."

"We do nothing and that still happens, at least this way we don't go down without a fight." You argue back, trying to get it in his head that you're out of choices. It's not like you want to go in there either.

You hand Dylan all the equipment, which is basically a lighter and gas canister, and stand near the biodome door with your own lighter. Your hand hovers over the doors open button, not yet pushing it until the two of you are ready. You watch your friend take some deep breaths, trying to calm himself down.

It's working. At least it was until the other door leading into the hall started to crack. You look at Dylan, give a firm nod, and then press the button. The smell of decay inside the dome fills your lungs and you do everything you can to not start vomiting. You look towards the plant and so far, he has not seemed to notice you.

"Let's hurry!" You whisper shout and begin to run, using the new environment for cover. You aren't just hiding from him though, but also your coworkers. They would scream and yell for you and surely get you caught quicker. You're doing good so far and staying well out of sight thanks to the changes of the dome. You still need to keep an eye out for the vines; however, they always seem to know where you are without even using sight. You think they must rely on vibration in the ground. Along the way to the plant, Dylan sprinkles some gas here and there to help spread the fire when the two of you start it up.

It doesn't take long before you and Dylan are both under the plant, you just hope he does not decide to basically sit on you while you literally light a fire under his ass. Dumping the gasoline all around under it and around the root like legs, you both move as quickly and quietly as possible.

"Put me down you f*cker! You son of a b*tch, I'll kill you!" you hear someone shout above you. It was a familiar voice, but you couldn't put a name to him. A loud scream rings out as you hear a crunch before a body lands lifeless right in front of you, causing you to let out a loud, horrifying shriek.

It's Sean. Or at least half of him as only his chest up is on the ground with you. it was a gory sight to behold, with his organs spewing out of the open cavity and his blood staining the ground. You bite your cheek to try to keep the vomit you want to spill from your mouth.

And if that sight wasn't terrifying enough, then the view of the human side of the plant basically hanging upside down to look at you is! No one moves as you and he stare at one another. Even in this silly position, he appears absolutely feral with no recognition of you shinning in his eyes, no elated expression upon your discovery. It terrified you to no end.

He twists himself to where he can place his hands on the ground and stretch his torso so he can practically crawl his way towards you. You remain frozen in place, even as his hand wraps around you. pinning your arms to your side. He seems to ignore Dylan in turn of dragging you out from under him. He rights himself up and then takes the time to officially examine you.

Your turned and moved this way and that, the whole time you stay complacent as he manhandles you before placing you before his face. You watch in horror as his lips part into a snarl and then you are moved closer to his mouth. This was it, your turn to be devoured just like all the others. You clench your eyes tight, not wanting to see your demise.

However, instead of meeting pain at the hands of his teeth, you are pressed against something plush followed by a soft coo. You peek open an eye to see yourself pulled away from a grinning mouth and it takes you a moment to realize he kissed you. You're pulled back far enough to see the entirety of his face again, staring at you now with adoration. The once angry look he carried, was now at peace with you in his presence, a loving look that seemed a bit twisted on his blood covered face.

Something seems to catch his gaze as his eyes pull away from you to something behind you. You hear a voice call out and you know that he is staring at Dylan. His stare turning hard and cold at the interruption between your reunion.

"Hey f*cker! Try this on for size!" You hear the click of the lighter and a glow reflects in your monsters' eyes.

He lets out a loud screech, making you cover your ears at the sound. The vines holding people start to writhe and throw your poor coworkers around. Some are slammed into the ground near flames in what you think is an attempt to put out the fire, while others are thrown into the walls and ceiling. And thankfully there are a few that managed to run to the lab doors.

The flames are closing in on him, right to where you and Dylan were pouring all the gasoline. You look at the smoke and you know that when the sprinklers turn on, it will only cause the fire to spread more. Gasoline fire and water do not work well together, it only makes matters worse.

And just as you thought it, the sprinklers kicked on and rained down on everything in the biodome. The place lit up like a Christmas tree, the orange flames consuming everything. You glance at the door and see the flames are closing in on them, if this monster doesn't let you go, you will barbecue with him.

"Dylan, get out of here! Run!" you scream at him, pointing to the door. You reach into your pocket and grab your own lighter, clicking it on and sticking it to him. The burn, whilst not grand in comparison to that around you, must have really startled him as he released you pretty quick, causing you to land on the ground hard.

You heard something in your leg snap, but the adrenaline you had running through your veins didn't let you feel that pain. You get up and start running behind Dylan, occasionally glancing back at the plant that is surrounded by fire. It worked, by f*ck it worked!

Amidst your joy, you failed to notice the ground in front of you opening, causing you to take another tumble down. This time though, it wasn't a hard landing, rather it was soft and pillowy. One look and you can tell it is the center of a flower that you landed on. To make matters worse, it starts to close, locking you inside the bud. You pound on the petals, crying out for it to let you go, that you didn't want to die or be buried alive. As if sensing your distress, a sweet smell soon fills your flower, the same kind that the monster makes, making you tired and relaxed. Finally, the scent overtakes you and you blackout.

You awaken to the sounds of crickets, frogs, and someone humming? There is a gentle swaying to your body, like lying in a rocking chair. The calming sounds are cut off by a howl of pain and the sound of crunching. You slowly open your eyes to take in your new surroundings, at least what you can see, noticing you are in a leaf like hammock. The lab you were in is nowhere in sight, making you wonder where the monster took you. Moving your eyes elsewhere, you see the outline of your plant monster holding something over his mouth and taking a small bite out of whatever, it is.

You don't even care to know what or who it is anymore. You're done sacrificing yourself for others, it's time for you to take care of yourself. You quickly hop down from the hammock, but you didn't get far as you immediately crumpled to the ground in agony and let out a loud scream.

A soft tsk rings out above you, before you're scooped up in his arms again. He trails a finger over your head and alongside your cheek in a stroking motion. He starts talking in that strange language again, and judging by his tone, he's scolding you. You were not having it though; how dare he fuss at you when he caused so many deaths.

"Shut up! Just shut up! Let me go you beast, I don't want to be here, I don't want to be with you! let me go and leave me alone!" Your angry yelling doesn't seem to dissuade him though as he nuzzles his nose against you.

"Y/n? Is that you?!" A male voice calls out. The nuzzling stops as your monster's face moves away again to bring the owner of the voice closer to you two. You're surprised to see your ex-boss looking right at you with a missing leg. This is who it was eating.

"Y/n help me! You can do that; he will listen to you!" the man begged as he is lifted to the plants mouth again. "PLEASE!!"

For once, you didn't want to help. This was all his fault to begin with, he should have never forced you to take care of it, she shouldn't have killed Sasha, the whole lab was in danger, and even now, you don't know what has happened to Dylan. Did he make it out? Did he survive?

So, while the plant consumed the man, you didn't utter a word, a plea, nothing. You allowed him to eat your ex-employer in peace, all the while the man is screaming profanities and pleas at you.

This is your life now, to belong to some creature from an unknown island. You only hope that the fate of those field scientists doesn't meet the same end by the same creature.

You're once again snuggled against the plant and rocked back and forth. Your so lost in your own thoughts that you don't even register that it speaks a clear English word to your docile form.

"Mine."

Sorry for being late, I had a huge inspirational burst for the feral giant oneshot so I've been writing that as well. That story will have a few easter eggs hidden in it.
