The Excitement of a Celebration

You stood under the shade of a tree in order to escape the intense heat of the sun. As you looked towards the mansion you were headed to butterflies raced through your stomach. Finally, after all this time, you had made up your mind to confess your feelings to your childhood friend, Yosuke. Just thinking about him caused excitement to fill your whole being. He had never paid much attention to his surroundings, but you hoped he'd paid attention to you.

Although you were technically a noble you had met Yosuke while cleaning dishes. The reason you were working at all was because your parents treated you like a servant and worse. At that time he had just been hired to serve in your house. Since the very first day he came he always helped you with all of your chores. It was very helpful considering your parents gave you more work then any of the actual servants. As a kid whenever you were scolded or hit, which always caused to be a sobbing mess, he had always been the one to comfort you. Even now, he was your moral support.

You weren't certain why your parents treated you the way they did. The closest thing to the truth you had were rumors. You learned from rumors spread amongst the maids that your father had blamed you for your birthmother's death since she died giving birth to you. Your stepmother treated you horribly simply because you weren't her child. It was believable, your stepmother always treated her daughter, Mei, like she was the center of the universe while she treated you like the ground beneath her feet. However, these were all rumors and you didn't know how much of them were actually true.

After that little reminiscence, you left the comfort of shade and went straight back to your house to help with work before people started to wonder where you were. You still needed to clean the whole entire kitchen by yourself!

When you arrived in the kitchen it was very quiet. Normally people were rushing through here, but ever so rarely there were quiet days. Enjoying the tranquil atmosphere, you gathered all the dirty dishes into one place, then went to fill a bucket with water so you could wash them. When you came back you started scrubbing all of the many dishes. Plenty of water spilt on the floor but you would just use that to scrub the floor later. As you worked you subconsciously started humming a song that had been stuck in your head all day. You couldn't remember where you heard the song or the words for it. You just hummed to it a lot.

"You really like to hum, don't you (Name)?" You felt a hand patting your head. You didn't look at the person behind you, you knew your face was bright red.

"Y-Yosuke, what are you doing here?"

"I thought I would help you out with your work, considering I'm already finished with mine."

"Y-yeah... Um thanks."

"So, did you ever remember the words to that song?"

It took you a while to register what he said. You were just really flustered and couldn't think straight. "Ah, um no. But I did make some up."

"Really? You should let me hear it!" He said enthusiastically. Even though you couldn't see him you imagined him having that big smile on his face.

"A-alright, um..." You started to mumble out the lyrics picking up where you had been humming, but there was no way you were going to actually sing them. Your face was already red enough! "Nobody shouts or talks too loud, not in my castle on a cloud. There is a lady all in white, holds me and sings a lullaby. She's nice to see and she's soft to touch. She says-"

"(Name), I love you very much." Yosuke wrapped his arms around your waist as his whispered it out. You felt your face grow even hotter then it had been before. You turned around and your nose almost touched his.

"Really?" This time it was his turn to blush and he couldn't keep eye contact with you. It was so adorable!

"Really." He replied

"But how'd you know that was the next part of the song?"

"I've heard you sing it before."

"..."

"..."

"Well, I guess I should say something..." Yosuke widened his eyes in anticipation. "Yosuke, I also-" Before you couldn't finish your sentence you heard your name being shouted out across the whole building.

"I guess you better go."

You nodded, then ran off to your screeching stepmother. You shoved open the door of the room her voice was coming from. Before you had the chance to process anything you felt a sharp stinging across your face. You weren't surprised that she had slapped you as it tended to happen a lot, still you reflectively brought your hand up to your cheek.

"You brat! Do you know how long I've been waiting?!" She was already lecturing you on being late when it had only taken you about twenty seconds to get to her.

"What do you want?" You mumbled.

"You always are too quiet! I can never hear what you say!"

You glared at her, then replied. "Is that all you wanted me for?"

"No, I just need to tell you you'll be attending the celebration of the royal family marrying off another princess. ANOTHER ONE! This country really has too many of those prissy wenches!"

"I-I really get to go?"

"Don't act so excited. If it were up to me you would never be allowed out of a this house. You're such an embarrassment!" She angrily sighed, "but it's not up to me. Other nobles have seen you around the city before and are wondering why you never show up to regal events. We don't want anyone thinking bad about us, so don't you dare do anything stupid!"

"Y-yes!"

Before sending you off she gave you an extra amount of work to do for the next three days before the festivities and, to your excitement she did give you a little money to buy a dress for yourself. A new dress sounded really wonderful because all you had to wear were old green clothes, the commoner's color.

You ran back to the kitchen to tell Yosuke the good news. When you ran into the kitchen he was cleaning the dishes you were supposed to clean. You walked over to join him.

"So, what work did she give you now?"

"A lot for the next few days."

"Seriously?! She can really irritate me sometimes." You blushed, was Yosuke getting angry for you?

"But, that's not all."

"What else did she do to you?!"

"Well~ she hit me."

"Th-that's it!"

You didn't know what Yosuke was about to do, so you interrupted. "But, guess what."

"What?" Yosuke growled out.

"I get to attend the celebration for the marriage of one of our princesses, in the palace!"

"... That's great (Name)."

"You don't seem so happy, Yosuke."

"Ah, well I kinda wanted to go with you to the festival that will be happening out of the palace." You remembered when other princesses were married off to other countries. All the nobles, except you, would go to a more high-class celebration in the palace, while you would go to the festival that occurred in the city streets. All the commoners would go there to celebrate. You had completely forgotten about that and now you felt bad Yosuke couldn't go to the palace with you. But there wasn't anything you could do, after all you couldn't go to the festival with Yosuke because you had to go to the palace with your parents to stifle other nobles curiosity and Yosuke couldn't come to the palace with you because he was a commoner who wasn't even allowed in.

"I'm sorry..."

"..."

"Hey! Maybe we you could get my parents to take you as a personal servant! Then once the other nobles see me, we could leave early and go to the festival!"

He perked up at the proposal. "Alright. Let's do it!"

"Right."

"Hey, (Name). I guess you'll need a dress for the occasion, right?

"Yeah, my parents gave me money but it's not nearly enough for anything very nice. Just enough so I don't look stupid."

"Hmm, well I have a friend who is a seamstress. If you just buy the materials I can get her to sew it together for free."

"Seriously? Then I could afford to buy higher quality fabric! Thanks Yosuke!" You hugged him really tight. "I'll get the fabric tomorrow morning, but do you think she can get it done in time?"

"I'm positive!"

You were super excited and you woke up extra early to go into the market to get the fabric. You also went to get any food that needed to be restocked so you wouldn't get scolded for slacking off. When you finished you brought the fabric to Yosuke and he left to take it to his friend.

The excitement of everything motivated you to work hard. You did notice that Yosuke wasn't helping you as much as he normally did, but there was no way you were going to ask him about it. It was out of the kindness of his heart that he ever helped and he could stop whenever he wanted. You should just be glad he ever helped you at all.

Soon, the day you had been waiting for came. Yosuke brought you your dress which was absolutely gorgeous. You couldn't wait to wear it. You gave Yosuke a big hug then kissed him.

"Thank you!"

"I didn't really do much, it was all my friend."

As you took the dress from his hands you couldn't help but notice they were hurt a little. Not horribly but still noticeable. But still you couldn't get the little bit of curiosity out of your head and you had to ask what was on your mind. "Yosuke, what happened to your hands?"

"Oh, I just cut them a little. It's nothing really."

"How did you cut them?"

"Oh, um, with a... Knife?"

You looked down at the dress in your hands. You remembered how Yosuke had been gone for a few days. Then you couldn't help but ask, "Yosuke, did you make this dress for me?"

His face turned red and he looked away. "Well, I guess you figured me out. I didn't want to tell you because it's... Kinda embarrassing. I mean the fact I can, um, sew."

"No, I think it's really adorable."

"Adorable?"

You giggled a little then changed the subject. "So, are you going to be able to come as a personal servant?"

"Yeah! I guess your parents like me a lot."

"Ah, I'm so excited for tonight!" You really couldn't wait.

A/N: The next chapters probably won't be this long and, no, this is not a Yosuke x reader but it might seem like it a bit for the next one or two chapters. Sorry, just bare with it.
